I'll stick to the Air. Three cheers for a real computer.
When will this stupid netbook fad die?
Hate to say it but the NETBOOK market is not going anywhere. it is only the start and it is the future . hate it as much as you want but NETBOOKS might become almost as main stream as desktops and laptops.
Can we get some shots next to a fujitsu p1630?
Nice name and avatar. :P
The theater widescreen aspect ratio will make reading text, viewing websites and any document work impossibly frustrating.
Anyone doing actual work knows how useless widescreen aspect screens are unless they are big enough to display multiple pages (legibly) side by side.
Until websites and documents are all produced in landscape mode, these tiny wide-ratio screens will continue to FAIL.
They should keep Optometrists busy though :)
Just sucks how the US version gets stuck with the slowest CPU possible (Japan gets 3 choices for CPU)
I don't get it, why is the UK getting the 1.6 atom? I will be getting one of these reguardless, hopefully it'll do osx 10.4 or ubuntu.
The Vaio P is clearly the winner!!! I love the way it looks, it's perfect!! Pre-ordered one already.
A not-so-comprehensive spec of VAIO P at my blog: http://animaster.wordpress.com/2009/01/10/sony-vaio-seri-p-dirilis/ (in Indonesian though, try Google Translating it ^^)
Half the comments I have read are saying the Sony P series is a $1000 netbook and ranting about the price. The P is a $1000 netbook the same way a Ferrari is a $200k compact car. Super compact computer, yes. Netbook, not really. And who's the yahoo commenting on the Sony build quality? If you want a $250 computer, buy a crapEEE Pc. If you want quality, go with a Sony.
So after reading that indonesian site am i to believe that non US markets are getting a 1.6ghz and a 1.8ghz model? If so ill import for sure.
I'd like to say that you should look at what you can get in this package ,Gigabyte LAN, 802.11N, hardware GPS,( if we are to believe the indonesian site) 1.8ghz atom, 2gb ram, webcam, 128gb SSD, bluetooth 2.1, 3G capable , and the SCREEN. i just don't think your going to find that amount of hardware in a better package. I Love it.
i don't know if this is true confirmation but the japan site does list the P sporting a 1.86 Z540 http://www.jp.sonystyle.com/Style-a/Product/P/index.html scroll towards the bottom
Ok these are MUCH better pictures. enjoy. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=339759
Personally, I think that the VAIO P series isn't at all overpriced. Here in Singapore, the 64GB SSD version, going at S$1,699, with it's specs to boot, at first glance would definitely looked overpriced. But let's not forget that the Eee PCs, and probably other netbooks are made of plastic for it's body, and their LCD panels, do not allow for the standard "scroll up and down" windows that the Ps do. Furthermore, for the P series, with it's portability, allows for traveling. Imagine you have to bring a hefty 14.1 inch notebook about 2kilograms simply just to do a slide show presentation, or to check your emails. Kinda off the ceiling for me. Personally if I had one of these PCs weighing at half a kilogram, I'd lug it along in place of it's larger cousins. Not to mention the noise canceling circuitry that comes in with the SSD versions, helps a lot in the plane. The "nipple" may be a tad more sensitive than I would like, but that doesn't stop be from getting a Bluetooth mouse and pair it up with it. Besides, the machine has a Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, might as well use it. If RAM is a problem, Vista's ReadyBoost allows for virtual memory to be utilized? For HDD/SSD space, I think that external HDDs will do the trick. Still, with the P and a 250GB external HDD, I reckon that it'd weigh more than a kilogram.
In addition, I think comparing the P series to the TZ/TT would be undermining the P series. Comparing these two would be almost equilavent to comparing a Pentium 2 era processor to a Core2Duo. Not a very fair comparison. What's more, the TZ/TT comes complete with DVD-burners, TPM security chips. It's more of an all-in-one executive laptop for traveling businessmen who really need something mobile. I would say that the P series would be more friendly to people who do a lot of text research, and need to cross refer text information with an internet source, as well as stay on messenger to remain contactable, and still contact others if needed.
PS
The keyboard is a FULL sized keyboard.
