Microsoft puts full-scale Windows 7 Beta back in action
Nice going, guys and girls. You had officially brought the servers that Microsoft used to host up Windows 7 Beta on to their knees. According to a statement received from the company by ComputerWorld, Microsoft had to put things on hold for some time in order to "add some infrastructure support to Microsoft.com properties." The spokeswoman continued by saying that the company "wanted to ensure that customers had the best possible experience when downloading the Beta." Now, however, we're receiving word that everything is back in action, so we'd suggest getting those bits and bytes a-flowin' before we end up in the very same position again.

I downloaded it last night but couldn't get my key till today. I'm installing it now (posting from other laptop) and its taking forever, but that's due to upgrading and having to configure all the crap I have. I tried one of the pre-betas (I wanna say 6890) a few weeks ago in VMWare and even for virtualizing in Vista it was performing well. Can't wait to see how it runs on its own.
I actually agree with some of what you said, but the part about people foaming at the mouth after shitting on Microsoft, as proof of our love of Microsoft, is not a very strong argument. I dislike Microsoft. I have 5 Windows machines, one Mac and one Linux box in my house. The fact is that Microsoft controls the industry. I am an IT professional and I am "foaming at the mouth" because I am praying that Windows 7 will alleviate some of the grief I have experienced with Vista. I am not excited for MORE awesome MS software, I am excited by the prospect of positive change.
Well Dan I can see your argument. Did some of us get Win7 because we love MS? Yep.. there are some of us. Did some of us get it because we were just that sick of Vista? Yes. Were some of us just curious? Also yes. Were there EVEN some of us that said to ourselves "Win7 is going to be so awful I just want to install it to see how bad I can laugh at it". Yes. You man apply into any or none of these, I don't know; and it's not my business of course.
Here's the deal though. MS doesn't run any junior servers. So in order to have their servers miff the other day, so many users went to get it, showing off plenty of DEMAND for this beta, and the OS as a whole. For whatever reason you or I or anyone else has for making the download.
it works all the way up to the download page on firefox so i copied the link to internet explorer and it went smooth from there.... just need to figure out how to install it on my regular computer.... help?
Download Failed in Camino 1.6.6, Firefox 3.0.4, and Safari 3.2.1 on MacBook Pro ( Late 2008 ) running Mac OS X 10.5.5 and in Firefox 3.0.5 on Windows XP Professional VM . So, I tried in Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP Professional VM and its working.
Hey guys, got a couple questions for you guys.(not the biggest technologic person in the world) Will the bittorrent work with boot camp?(if so how?) Is this safe?(I don't want to screw up my new MacBook I just spend $1,200 on) and lastly will this need a lot of Hard Drive space?(i don't want it to eat up more than 10 GB's)
You are gonna want to use atleast 20GB for it. You can download straight from Microsoft or use any Transmission or similar to download a torrent. Just use Boot Camp as directed by Apple and it shouldn't do anything other than steal 20GB from your Mac HD. Its very easy.
I got a differerent key yesterday... activated and good to go :) Maybe they decided to quit giving out unique ids as appearently the whole volume licensing key server went down...
I had some trouble getting it to start downloading but it worked fine in IE when i tried that but didnt seem to work in firefox for me. Tried to get it yesterday but the servers were all down which was a real shame, download started at about 300/400 kb/s but now seems to have slowed right down to about 60kb/s :( which doesnt make me happy
Thanks LJKelly, but what is the microsoft one (i trust that one more). And do i need any CD's?
Thanks in Advance,
Oxford
This is great after yesterday's fiasco. I was REALLY surprised to find that this installed in about 20 minutes on my old 3GHz socket 478 / 1GB RAM machine. I was EVEN MORE surprised when it booted up for the first time supporting 1900x1200 and then went out and got all of the drivers that I had to spoon-feed Vista after I installed the software for my Belkin wireless card. Kudos to MS.
I got a sweet 52 megabit (6500KB/s) download for both ISO's today. Now if the OS is only as good as the download speed.
Anyone else having trouble with the windows update servers today?
Could someone please help, I go to this website (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx) and when I try to download the 32bit i type in my password and then it stays at that green circle thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Got the same run-around with Opera, Chrome, Firefox. IE6 got part way, but 7 got the job done finally.
Funny, I got a total of FOUR PRODUCT KEYS due to all the times I had to log in.
Where can I find the .iso from what I downloaded? I'm not seeing it anyhwere
Hey I found a different download place on Digg.com but with the .iso do i need to burn it to a disc to use it or will boot camp detect the .iso as a windows software?
I finally got it working with boot camp on my MacBook (Late 2008) and its amazing! except for one thing, my speakers won't work with Windows 7. Has anyone else run into this? How did you fix this? (If you did)
Ok, from all the comments that I have read, everyone seems to know a lot about computers and operating systems. Since I HATE Vista and it came on my Sony Vaio, what do I have to do to download it? If I download, does it go away after a period of time and then I have to buy it? Can I delete the Vista from my computer?
Thanks for any help.
Hi I am just a beginner, and what is all the hype about this 7 something and should i get it put on my laptop, and have vista removed, this thing is not used for much business dealings, more or less a toy for an old man,, and researching ?
Ok, whenever it gets to the point with the lil green circle page, it suddenly goes to a "page cannot be found" page. Luckily I found a direct link to DL it, but I'm afraid I'm not getting my key. Anyone else havin this issue?
Everyone will do the same with Windows 7 as they did with Vista- Test it, Say that it's the best thing next to sliced bread, then bash it when it's released.
All the magazines did it- beta testers did it
Where the hell can I go to down load it, Help! somebody!
windows 7 rocks!
Well not bad for what its worth right now, one problem I had when I installed on my Dell D630 the darn fan never stops spinning making loud annoying sound. I like the bells and features they added seems like they finally listened to the customers what the heck they want and like to see...
