Lego announces line of digital cameras, PMPs, etc. for your teeny human friends

Lego's just announced that it's teamed with Digital Blue to bring out a line of digital cameras, PMPs, and walkie talkies for children. As you can see, the products will have the familiar "Lego" look to them (though not constructed out of actual bricks), and though we haven't heard anything in the way of specs yet, they're said to be arriving this summer with prices ranging from $19 - $60. Our opinion of these is currently hanging out in the "not really excited" file, but outfit these suckers a set of wheels and we'll probably be sold. Second photo after the break.

No so fast, I like legos too, and I like hot babies, but it doesn't mean I like lego babies better than the real thing.
John @ Jan 13th 2009 2:12AM
either your grasp of the english language isn't as firm as you think, or you have some sick, sick issues man.
Joshua Loucks @ Jan 13th 2009 2:13AM

I've already phoned the authorities.

Ever since Lego got bought by the US company, it turned into a pile of sh*t. I used to love legos, but what they did with the concept amazes me, in a not-so-positive way.
Tom @ Jan 13th 2009 6:24AM
do you call sheep, sheeps?
Bomber @ Jan 13th 2009 6:26AM
Also, 'lego' not 'legos'.
Andy @ Jan 13th 2009 8:22AM
The word Lego when used as a noun, should only be used to refer to the company. In all other uses, the word Lego is an adjective not a noun, e.g. Lego bricks, Lego building.
Levi @ Jan 13th 2009 4:04PM
Dude, I've been known to be a grammar Nazi from time to time, but you've gone too far. NOBODY calls them "Legi bricks." They are Legos.
Levi @ Jan 13th 2009 4:06PM
You're right, troll, nobody calls them Legi bricks!!
Typing fail, blame the iphone.
Edward @ Jan 14th 2009 7:52AM
It's not an adjective, it's a noun-noun compound. It's something English does very well, as in 'Physics student film society discount'. You wouldn't claim any of them are adjectives, would you? Saying 'lego blocks' is no different from 'Chevy cars' or 'Macintosh computers'.
konshuss @ Jan 27th 2009 3:08PM
can't wait for the 5x as big Duplo camera/walkies.
meh @ Jan 13th 2009 2:17AM
I would like to see lego bricks with conductors, LEDs, switches, transistors, resistors, and capacitors in them. Then I could build logic circuits out of legos, and that would be epic. Or have they already done that and I'm living under a rock?
turn_self_off @ Jan 13th 2009 2:40AM
there was someone that built logic gates out of lego technics.
scale that up and your have a babbage analytical engine.
John @ Jan 13th 2009 2:27AM
I remember there being pieces that had metal lining so that you could pass a current through them to one of the lego motors, but I don't think the EE Lego set exists yet.... though that would be a killer way to introduce circuits.
Like_A_Glove @ Jan 13th 2009 2:36AM
I'm more concerned about the safety issues here. with electricity, wires, motors, sharp mental components & toxic substances etc, I don't think it's a good idea.
meh @ Jan 13th 2009 2:49AM
@Like_A_Glove
I imagine components being housed inside the plastic lego blocks and having simple metal contacts on the heads and bases of the blocks like they did with the MindStorm blocks, from what I know those are only components being controlled by a large centralized computer lego box, but I'm not sure. As for motors they tool can safely be housed. Also Lego knows that kids like to eat their toys so it would have a choking warning on the box and be sold to the 14+ crowd not babies.
Like_A_Glove @ Jan 13th 2009 3:15AM
That certainly helped a lot, but what if the housing is broken. what if the motor short circuited or malfunctioned and burned. I'm not suggesting we should leave Planet Earth because somebody died on it. it's just things should be taken into consideration.
RM @ Jan 13th 2009 4:48AM
Who gives a crap about safety when fun is at stake?
Meridimus @ Jan 13th 2009 6:02AM
Hello? Adults love lego. Get with it.
The thing that absolutely bothers me about this is that the electronics are mismatched in size. That sucks. If they made stuff the right size in proportion to the bricks, that would be awesome.
Also, I hope I could make a lego tripod. If not, you might as well stick this STRAIGHT UP YOUR A**.
Wwhat @ Jan 13th 2009 7:46AM
This reminds me, it's been 2 days since I checked nobody removed the label from my mattress, I better re-check.
Levi @ Jan 13th 2009 4:11PM
Like_a_glove, you won't be getting your kid a Power Wheels, will you...
fudd @ Jan 13th 2009 4:41PM
12v DC never killed anyone!
stop trying to protect kids! otherwise they will end up stupid, fat and do nothing but watch TV instead of being outside learning and hurting themselves... oh hangon, they already are stupid, fat and do nothing but watch TV..

The walkie talkie is so rad!
What kid -doesn't- want a walkie talkie -and- lego?

Lego FTMFW!
Roncore @ Jan 13th 2009 2:19AM
As long as the outer blocks can accept other lego bricks, just think of all the accessories you could make!!!
absinthe party @ Jan 13th 2009 7:25AM
Lego Medieval Castle set camera!
bluecrnch @ Feb 9th 2009 10:36PM
The camera and walkies will have actual LEGOs on the top and bottom of the camera, as part of the camera body. i work for Digital Blue, the manufacturer of these cameras.
Ian @ Jan 13th 2009 2:24AM
Kids don't say rad anymore. No, not just kids, everyone doesn't say rad anymore.
Hot babaies? That's some silence of the lambs stuff right there, or Austin powers?

Just don't ever close the thing. You'll never get it open again. =P

Chibi @ Jan 13th 2009 7:23AM
Oh stupid me. I forgot to see that it was meant at digital camera, not film.
Ayman @ Jan 13th 2009 8:15AM

I'm sorry you never got to enjoy the gloriousness that was Lego's during your child hood and instead had to play with those crap Mega Blocks.
Now GTFO.

"Ever since Lego got bought by the US company, it turned into a pile of sh*t. I used to love legos, but what they did with the concept amazes me, in a not-so-positive way."
Loocas,
Lego is still a family owned company in Denmark.
npChaos @ Jan 13th 2009 11:52AM
"What are you doing?"
"I'm making a spaceship out of digital cameras..."
FILA @ Jan 13th 2009 2:58PM
there cool, for little guys
DeoWulf @ Jan 13th 2009 5:44PM
The possibilities for customizable cases are good. Plus, no-one can complain about aesthetics, because you built the exterior yourself! What would be interesting is if Lego extended this to open up their target audience, and developed a Bug Labs-eqsue system of creating your own PMP, camera, etc based on the features you were interested in. Of course, that's very unlikely.
Pedobear @ Jan 13th 2009 6:29PM
I'll be having some fun in the neighborhood with these.
deathsupport @ Jan 13th 2009 8:28PM
Why won't Lego already release USB flash drives? You know you want one... everyone wants one!
KilgoreTrout @ Jan 27th 2009 4:02PM
They do.
I don't know if it's a legit Lego product, but I have seen USB storage lego bricks 2,4,and 8GB in different colours.
