Oregon Scientific's RMR500 weather display includes integrated solar panels
Well, hello Oregon Scientific! Outside of those few mentions made at CES last week, we were beginning to wonder if you had any new tabletop displays in the pipeline. Apparently, you do. The RMR500 Eco Clima Control doesn't deviate too drastically from the company's past weather displays, but it does do something a little different than just inform users of temperature and humidity in four separate locations. What, you ask? It gets its juice from integrated solar panels -- three whole months of power after just eight hours in the sun. Look for it to splash down this Spring for $99.

Speaking as someone who lives in Oregon, 8 hours of sunshine might be all we get in 3 months.
never heard of the whether forecast? no, ok spend your well earned moneys
im a fucking idiot.

I wasn't going to say anything...I figured you were just being punny. ;-)
How hard is it to give these things a full 3 or 4" LCD screen, with a useful, interesting interface?
It wouldn't be difficult but it would increase the cost and also drain the battery much much faster. It couldn't be run solely on batteries which is a huge convenience now. As for useful... what else do you want out of this thing? Detailed forecasts?? Might as well just use a computer or iPhone.
Reflective mono display + Integrated solar panels = Hardly something new.
Yeah, technology seen in just about every $5 drug store calculator. Oh snap, now it charges.
Why would one pay $99 for a panel that displays information that can be easily acquired from the Internet?
Ok - please post the website that has the Temperature and Humidity inside your house - thanks.

No one reading this blog would need it, but my parents, who cling to dial up and don't go online very often, have specifically asked me for something just like this...
Would have broken this, this morning.
8:00 am
Cedar Rapids, Iowa (Airport)
Clear
-28 °F
Clear
Windchill: -52 °F
Humidity: 77%
Dew Point: -33 °F
Wind: 12 mph from the WNW
Sounds like you froze your Spork off.
11:48 am
Tampa, FL (TIA)
Cloudy
53 F
Humidity 37%
Dew Point 27 F
Wind 8 from NE
We win!
but what if you want to know the exact temp and what not outside your immediate residence? The closest reporting station to me is the airport. Granted not far enough to matter really. I just want one with the projection clock. though me being near sighted probably still wouldn't be able to see it on the ceiling. damn you eyes!!!
Be afraid, very afraid...
OS quality and customer support is non-existant
True -- I have an OS weather station I bought a few years ago. Support from the outset was minimal at best. Product works fine, but its performance can be lacking (doesn't pick up atomic time clock signals). Anyway, if it works that's great, but if it doesn't, you're probably SOL
Dude...these things have all been wireless for years now. Come back when you found a clue.
Tell you what it was -36 this morning with wind chill of -47. Last week we hit -52 with wind chill. Tell you what... I do not need a thermometer to tell me it is fring'n cold out side... and I already know it a 'dry' cold!
Who came up with those Give One Get One colors? It looks like someone from that project came over and started making weather tablets. Those stick-on "time" things (at least they look stick-on)? That's so cheesy.
I thought you were just being punny.
What time is it? It's 24.8°C o'clock!
no one noticed the time in the image? or how about the date.
There is currently a 78% chance it is 24.8 o'clock? And the date is 24.8 as well?
I feel kind of bad for the rendering guys because that's what i do for a living, but the marketing guys should have never let that out the door either. That just makes the designers feel dumb. Although, chances are they are the ones that should have caught that in the first place if it's anything like where I work.
