Circuit City fails to be wanted, will now be liquidated
Even Circuit City's CEO admitted that liquidation was a very real possibility if a sale of the company didn't occur by January 16th, and needless to say, time's up. According to a breaking report from the AP, the once colossal electronics retailer will indeed be forced to liquidate, which should bring happy times for bargain hunters and sad times for employees. Now that details are starting to flow in, we're told that it will liquidate 567 of its US stores after failing to secure a buyer or refinancing deal. For those who care, Great American Group LLC, Hudson Capital Partners LLC, SB Capital Group LLC and Tiger Capital Group LLC have been chosen as liquidators.

Micro Center rocks! A little expensive though. I still use NewEgg for most of my electronics needs. But, in a pinch, Micro Center rocks!
From the website:
Liquidation sales begin as early as Saturday, January 17, 2009, and will last as long as it takes to sell through the merchandise at each of the stores. We expect the sales to wrap up by the end of March 2009.
For all you CC guys, I feel for ya, I work at MC and I can tell you this
Microcenter is HIRING
bye bye cc, we'll miss you

Isn't it awesome that the executives probably get huge bonuses?
I have a $110 CC Rewards Certificate that I redeemed from my CC Rewards card ... will they still honor the certificate?????
Just as well close. The sales people wouldn't make eye contact when you walked into the Asheville, NC store.
Bye Bye.
Hello Amazon.
I know, thank god they're closing every store in the country, I hate that Asheville, NC store.
Seriously, people are so ignorant and entitled when it comes to retail stores. I work at Best Buy, and I understand that there are better individual stores than others when it comes to customer service. I work at a store with a really high customer satisfaction percentage, others around me I hear horror stories and their numbers aren't so good. I feel like with many customers we lose either way, and the same people who are complaining that no associate comes over to talk to them, are the same ones that complain when someone asks them if they need help, because we're either lazy idiots with no ambition or pushy salespeople out to take your money.
Sorry to all those that worked at Circuit, I feel for you and hope you find a new job quickly.
I just hope Best Buy doesn't follow Circuit City to the grave this year. With the economy tanking, and more layoffs every month, electronic stuff is at the bottom of the list for most people.
Anyone seen any HDTV 120Hz deals yet? I was just there and their so called Liquidation Sale is nothing but a 10% off sale. But with their prices already high and taxes they cant beat an online site.
you do know that we dont control the price right, its based on what the liquidators want to sell it for.
Well now Best Buy will definitely take off... I remember buying my 1st PC here in US at the local Circuit City (a Packard Bell computer..) but never going back there again since it was not much of a pleasant experience..
Oh yeah and those who DID buy an Extended Warranty or whatever on CC, they still apply as it has nothing to do with them closing their doors...
Some of the comments I'm reading on here are hilarious. Do you all not know Best Buy is having it's own fair share of issues and are about to do some lay offs. Not to mention now that they have no direct national competition they can basically do whatever they want with their prices.
And the warranties are still fine, they are insured through Assurant.
who actually goes into physical stores? don't you guys order everything online? it's cheaper, you can get more information on the product you want (and can research it) and you don't have to talk to these idiots who don't know their ass from topolsky's.
I'm an Mech. Engineering Student. I've worked for BBY computers for 2 years, its just a part time college job (thank god circuit city never called me back). I do know wtf im talking about, you just need to find the right asscoiate who is more tech savy if you have a real techincal question. I'm not saying every single employee should know everything about eveyrthing, but atleast they are trained to help the avgerage consumer in there respective departments. If your so keen on saying they don't know anything, then why? do you come in and ask questions? just get what you want and go, or go order stuff online, i work in the computers dept and My favorite stores are NewEgg and Microcenter FTW!!!....but if you have questions, just be patiene and you'll find someone,
I'm just like you.. im tech savy, i read endgadget, i also shop online too, and realistically yess the prices are going to be a little cheaper online, becuase of No operating costs, but then theres shipping and you never get to see the actually product. But ppl are sayying its 1000% isnt right.
Sam's Club ftw!
Seriously - sad economic times. It amazes me how Kmart has managed to stay alive with Walmart destroying them for the past decade.
To those of you still in the retail game I salute you!
No longer having a job other than making sure that people get systems that got worked on or that didn't get serviced before the vultures and the liquidators get to them is...Joyful.
Kudos to acidtrip and gib,
The fall really did start from the '03 layoffs, but at least then there was respect given to those people as compared to '07 session. Especially when you consider that in Early '07 the option was given to either get rid of one manager from every location or those that were knowledgeable and were striving to become managers and fix problems with the newer staff.
Your right about the training, when I started:
the newbies had about two weeks of E-learning before they would be put out on to the floor
They'd be placed in the Merch area
Would not be able to touch the register for at least a week
A buddy associate was assigned to them to walk them through the department and watch over them while they dealt with customers
Take a skill validation, could be delayed until after next step though..
After you got ropes of the system and point of sale you were temporarily placed in your department of choice
More floor Training w/ senior in that area
Take a skill validation after a week to determine if you'd be kept or placed back in the Merch area
Towards the end, it seemed like they thought a computer could teach you what your mother didn't. They people I 'worked' with during this Christmas season had me feeling like some of them should have been put through a wall. If you've been in a place for two days it is understandable if you can't find something, not two months with nothing changing around you other than the people who work with you.
A lot of what people complained about the company did listen, they just didn't keep anything around long enough to let it reach potential. Heck they turned Firedog into a profit monster versus keeping it the service focus that it was...lol I was almost fired because I refused to charge customers for work I didn't think that they would need. They required certification for all techs and then gave the answers to the training questions when it seemed like the majority couldn't pass the testing.
Magellan and RPOS were pipe dreams for a DPS store like ours, the better debit and credit transaction didn't outweigh the complications they had with installing ir. (Took out power to half the store and had to replace strips and some displays where the power had gone out)
Since the liquidators are now in control I feel it's my right to put the next person that states "That's why you're going out of business!" in their rightful place. Not gonna curse them out...there's no point in doing what they've been doing, just use your brain and explain the humor in what that are doing and watch them meltdown.
Now that CC is no longer in control as far as pricing and running what's left of the big business most of the items have gone back up to MSRP. People are idiots if they think no one will buy, most likely not the people reading this, but the people searching for a deal out of the misfortune of someone else.... 8 years of watching people think they'll get deals has taught me that. What has the deal gotten these people? All sales are final...NO CC policy is being honored on these sales. Funny thing is if you bought it before the announcement because you were still our "guest" at that time we would honor the memory...ah well!
As far as CC vs BBY vs The Next guy...it's a stupid debate it's all retail and you'll have winners and losers, helpful and ignorant, excellent and below standard and it'll most likely be the same place and same people that'll be labeled as such..Human perception. Go to where you feel you are treated the best, don't get what you want move on and shut up no one really cares if you go to the next place...it's part of life your problem is our problem as long as it relates to us.
I'm off to the shell in a few hours that's left to save one or two more systems from being destroyed like the last dozen that were crushed the day before the announcement. Still trying to find out
You'll be missed CC,
So long location #3699 - Yonkers, NY
@Newsom02
You prefer Best Buy for returns over Frys for returns? Best Buy charges a restocking fee on most opened thing, and I'm pretty sure Fry's does not.

@ Evo. - i feel your pain man, i echo pretty much everything you said. CC just became a poorly run company the last few years. I've heard rumors that Wal*Mart might buy Firedog. That would be bad news for BB. Sucks though...

best buy is no better, theyer not far behind circuit city.
