Nintendo sets US sales records in 2008, collects $200
While 2008 saw investments wiped out, institutions falter, and record job losses, the house that Mario built chugged its way back into the record books. According to NPD Group statistics, Nintendo sold a record 10.17 million Wii consoles to US Americans in 2008. That trumps Nintendo's own record of 9.95 million consoles sold in the relatively healthy 2007 economic climate. Nintendo added to its money pile by hawking 9.95 million DS handhelds for the year compared to the 8.52 million sold in 2007. Those tallies represent 55% of all consoles and 72% of all handheld consoles sold in the US. Daaaamn.

hot damn,.sounds like complete dominance . We need to find the "nintendokiller"
call in... THE HEDGEHOG!
I'd like to point out how awesome it is that Waluigi is the proxy for Mediterranean Ave. The crappiest Mario character ever is the crappiest property ever.
Wow. Thats all I've got to say. Four years ago Nintendo was supposed to be on the way out......no look at them. Unfortunately for most of us reading this, Nintendo doesn't need "gamers" anymore. They created their own market and left us with the 360 and PS3. Sony shot itself in the face, and Microsoft's hardware is like it's operating system: crash, replace, rinse, repeat. My 72 year old grandmother, along with my parents, never played video games in their entire life, but now they play Wii Sports on a weekly basis. Nintendo brought a new market to gaming and the next generation is what I'm excited to see. With the mistakes that happened this generation, the next will have to be epic. Vista sucked, I"m beta testing 7 and it's not bad at all. The Gamecube didn't have a mass market appeal, now the Wii is the mass market. Microsoft's next console won't RROD or orb of death or whatever ganked up philosophy they come up with in console design, and I'm hoping Sony's next console, if Sony still exist, will be smaller and affordable. Reguardless of sales, or what it means to be a console, the next generation will be nuts.
I'm afraid the Wii will be the end of my gaming hobby. Microsoft and Sony will do all they can to make a mass market console copying the Wii's success of insanity.
If the Wii is the harbinger of things to come, it is a dark day for the serious gamer. I have 6 Wii games and do not plhyan on purchasing any more. The console sits collecting dust because it is nearly worthless as an entertainment device. As a party game and fitness simulator it has its merits, but not nearly enough to justify its success.
The Wii mirrors America. A land of hype influenced bandwagon bubbles that destroys all. Just like the me too, I gotta flip 15 houses idiots that destroyed the housing market, we get the oh god I'll sell my kidney to get a Wii for my kid idiots. In the wake of the Wii we will have the second great videogame crash. The Wii is the Atari 2600 all over again.
Don't believe me, look at the similarities. A underpowered console that sells to everyone and thier grandmother. An immense load of shovelware that forces many decent games into cancellation. A wave of hype built on a gimmick that turns out to be far less revolutionary than initially thought. Something that collects dust after the hype wears off.
Nintendo is destroying the market that they helped to bring back. How many copies of Game Party 6 will have to be buried in a desert somewhere.
Amen.
I just hope that the N doesn't get all ballsy and waits 5 years to release another system that uses gimped hardware, has practically no online support, and is based around a gimick (ok, the wiimote is fine and dandy, but games that overuse it are generally trash.)
