CTL 2go Convertible Classmate PC reviewed: good enough for big people, too!

Just days after its arrival on the market, Laptop Magazine's had some in person time with the CTL 2go Convertible Classmate PC. They found the little convertible tablet -- which has an 8.9-inch resistive touchscreen (with 1024 x 600 resolution) -- to be a more grown up version of its predecessor, heavier than other, similarly-sized netbooks, and they love the overall aesthetics of it. It falls a little short in a few categories: they found the 60GB hard drive to be "sluggish" and the keyboard to be "cramped," but overall, they're pretty into the Classmate, even going so far as to suggest that adults might just be covetous of the netbook. Hit the read link to check out the full review which, incidentally, is written entirely in crayon. (Note: totally kidding. We write in crayon, though. Sometimes).

I write my reviews with my Dandelion crayon.......
Hey, engadget finally remembers by username and password!
they always did for me
broswer me thinks is more your problem
No, firefox would save the name and password, but it would always be ste to the new users tab and i'd have to switch over to returning. both my pc's did this.
Ah yes, classic "user error"
haha dandelion crayon
suppose you eat the crayons while writing the review...
Enough tray icons? How much can you fit onto a 60gb HDD?
Judging by what those icons actually represent, you can fit a whole lot more on that hdd if needed.
its:
msn/battery icon/intel graphics tray/network/Something that looks like norton/track pad/windows security centre notification.
There's two i don't get, one is probs the icon tray for the quick launch thing, no idea on the final one.
Classmate? I saw EngadgeMate ....eh, may be blogMate...
please tell me you dont mean $4,350
Am I the only one who looked at that, and was like, "holy crap, look at all those icons running in the system tray!"?
Thing is gonna be using way more memory than really necessary.
Not the winner or even 3rd runner up in the Netbook Fashion show.
me wants. would be so bloody useful for taking notes in class...
Get an HP tx2510us, you can find it on sale for 699-799 in most places and its much more useful
there's only a few problems with the HP...
I live in the uk, which means they don't sell it... which means i'd have to get the tx2-1000 that would be 800 pounds... twice the price of the classmate... also, i already got a decent enough laptop, i only need a tablet with a decent battery life... and 12.1" is kind of big if you've got to bring it around with you everywhere... also, it's got vista... i had it on my laptop as a free upgrade... had to go back to xp and now my laptop has been on for over a month non stop with no problems... had to restart it every week back when i had vista!
As someone who owns a tx2500z, I can say it is a huge piece of junk. The reviews on the internet are generally positive, which is baffling to me. True, it is cheap for a tablet, but I think you get what you pay for in this case.
-The buttons are flimsy,
-the optical drive is terrible (takes forever for the CD to spin up fast enough to read, doesn't always latch when you close it, you sometimes have to open it and close it again because it isn't reading the CD/DVD correctly, etc)
-The performance is not good enough for vista. Make sure you get 4GB of ram at a minimum if you get it, 2GB doesn't cut it.
-It is too heavy and bulky for a tablet
It is not all bad, the tablet works pretty well, the screen is bright and looks good, it has a pretty diverse selection of ports. But overall, it feels like a piece of junk to me.
I just bought one of these badboys and I think it will be tons better. However, they have emailed and said due to high demand the order won't ship for 1-2 weeks (booo).
The best thing about this is that Asus's rather less bulky distinctly more lovely looking tablet netbook shooooould come in for around the same price.
I love convertibles!
I can't take my eye off the system tray.
It will fail because of that.
M&A has launched the 'Companion Touch', which seems to be a rebranded 2GO Convertible Classmate PC accept it comes with a 4-cell battery and 802.11b/g/n/ WiFi. The 2Go comes with a 6-cell battery and seems to get 802.11b/g WiFi.
