Acer's 10-inch Aspire One 103 in photos
Acer's 10-inch Aspire One isn't exactly a secret, but we haven't seen straight-on pictures of it yet -- and glory be, it looks like the rumors of a revised trackpad button layout were true. Not only that, but it's a multitouch model, so you'll be ready for the Windows 7 party. Nothing spectacular other than that -- you're looking at a pretty standard 1.6GHz Atom, 1GB of RAM, optional 3G, SDHC card slot, and 3 USB ports. More pics at the read link.

Well, i knew that acer would have to go back to it's old styling ways eventually.
This looks horrible, which is dissapointing because of how nice the 9" model looks.
Definetly doesn't make me regret my purchase of a MSI U100 six cell.
Don't judge a laptop by it's slightly blurrycam photos.
Too late for that...
So it has multi-touch. how about USB 3.0 ? any notebook dont have USB 3 will be obselete in june 2009. :(
PS: wanna kickstart the economy? launch usb 3.0 earlier !!!!
Exactly. The smaller version looks really sleek, but this is grotesque in comparison. I would buy the smaller one if it weren't for the fact the Wind has more features for about the same price and they are almost the same weight and size.
not just old styling... but they ruined the functionality of the Aspire One's battery bay
BOOOOOOOOOO
DAMN that thing is fugly
I know. I'd rather more info about those juicy Dell Adamos
The old Aspire One has multitouch too, but I do like the new button layout... two handed mousing was getting to be a pain.
I'm pretty sure they mean it has a multitouch screen, as having a multitouch trackpad would not make it any more ready for Windows 7.
I'm pretty sure they don't.
I have the old aspire one and never had any trouble with the touchpad buttons.
who needs the left button when you can tap to click
They mean the trackpad - a lot of Acer Aspire's have been using a multitouch trackpad. Only thing I've ever gotten it to do is "pinch" photos to expand or shrink them. Definitely not a touch screen.
I don't think that having a Multitouch touchpad is so Windows 7 special.
Asus has already in it's 1000 Series and it work fine on XP meaning that you can go back and forward when browsing or navigate around the page and the same with pictures.. but this is XP.
I would say that a touchscreen or even more a multitouch screen could take advantages of the enviroment that Windows 7 but also Vista can offer.
A multitouch TouchPad is for sure NOT "Windows 7 party Ready".
Ugly Betty now looks a lot prettier...
Pretty enough to date Dapper Dan?
Does It Run Mac OS X 10.5?
Why would anyone ever want to when Windows 7 Beta is already available and Windows 7 final will be out < 1 year.
Mm, you mean OS X©!
What's with the neon green on conservative black? Doesn't work as an office machine nor a fun one.
It looks like somebody colored it with a black Sharpie (tm).
You get what you pay for
Why does a multi-touch trackpad make it Windows 7 ready ? If it had a touch screen that would be true, a multi-touch trackpad would make it a perfect Hackintosh.
cmon guys it's a bad press shot
also it's the outside that matters
Acer Aspire One running Windows 7 here. It even does Aero! I highly recommend this system; just make sure you get the 6-cell battery for 5+ hrs battery life (i routinely get closer to 6). Not bad for ~$350
and yes, the trackpad is multi-touch with gesture support. Just enable tap-to-click and the button configuration is moot.
Does sleep mode work with Windows 7 for you?
yeah, everything works in windows 7 on the acer aspire one. no problems whatsoever, and i didn't have to do anything extra like find drivers -- win7 just works. shrink your C: using http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm and create a new drive to install Windows 7 to. Mount the win7 ISO using Daemon Tools Lite, run setup.exe and tell it to install onto the new drive.
also, i recommend picking up a Sandisk Ultra II Plus SD card (with pop-out USB) and keeping it stashed in one of the Aspire One's SD slots, just in case you ever need to transfer files with somebody. $10 at http://www.adorama.com/IDSU2SDP102M.html
I've got the same setup (AA1+Win7), and sleep works fine.
I'll take one if they come in pink
The 8.9" does, so maybe you're in luck...
Here in another pic and it looks much better in this pic:

I love my 9" acer aspire one. very cool looking and runs very well
It looks better because thats not it. Look above the keyboard, at the hinge, and the media buttons to the right of the keyboard. Thats some other Acer computer
That's a stock Acer photo of a Gemstone, not the AAO.
Spec-wise, nearly all netbooks are comparable, so the best thing about the AA1 was the cheap price. That, and there was really only one model name, but with different configurations. It's very unlike Asus/EeePC. That's what made the first one popular, and I hope Acer stick with that strategy.
The current AspireOne has a multitouch trackpad.
Not really into the style. I like the look original AA1 better...this one just seems a bit too plain.
+ for adding a (tM)
Ugly, but I'll bet the real thing will be better looking. Now just make it a multi-touch tablet (like that one education netbook) and give it the Nvidia Ion chipset and make it around US$400.
On an unrelated note, is anyone manufacturing cheap, portable, bus-powered external USB dvd/cd writer drives? Considering the exponential rise of the netbook market, I'll bet a lot of people would be interested in adding a drive to watch DVD's and such, especially once the Ion chipset gives netbooks decent enough graphics to be a primary computer for light users (especially if you have a monitor and keyboard to hook it up to at home).
Yes.. right when I was about to buy the original one.. how convenient.. hopefully this could make the 9" price go down :D
And I have to agree with some posters above, design wise they seem to be missing something here..
Just my €0.2 (the currency is better..)
