Myka's BitTorrent-friendly home media player now in production
It's been just about ten full months since Myka's BitTorrent box was formally introduced to Earthlings, but it seems like the wheels are finally turning on production way across the way in China. According to a promising update on Myka's official website, "production is in full swing," which means that boxes should start arriving to eager consumers in around four to six weeks. For those unaware, this here box pulls down torrents as you sleep and then plays 'em back nicely on your connected HDTV. Users can also load up additional media on the inbuilt 80GB, 160GB or 500GB hard drive, but first you'll need to hand over $299, $349 or $459 depending on just how capacious you like your media servers.

Does this thing unrar files? A good portion of the stuff I download is compressed in .rar files.
@ Chad
Complain to the uploader when you get torrents in .rar (or .zip, .7z, .gzip, etc). Seriously, there's almost no good reason to use rar files in torrents. All media formats are already compressed. "Compressing" in a .rar won't save any space. It also doesn't prevent corruption, because the bittorrent protocol does this automatically and on the fly. The negatives include not being able to selectively download a particular file from the rar, requiring extra space to extract the files, extra time to extract them, and the need to keep the rar around just for seeding.
This isn't usually a big deal, but wait until you download an 8gb or 10gb archive. It flatout sucks. As much as an extra hour while extracting and saving the files, and using another 10gb. END THE MADNESS!!! STOP USING .RARs IN TORRENTS!!!
+ 1 Chad. Except for games Skullptura FTW!!
The Rar's are their because people upload this stuff on Rapidshare in the form of rar's... so it is unlikely that this will change. Nowadays there is a Rapidshare link to a file on every damn forum in the world.
The scene still uses .rar for faster pre-times... A decent private tracker that allows user uploads won't
$200 for the 500gb, and this would be a great gift for family. Nearly the cost of a pre manu'd htpc, minus half the specs, and you gotta be kidding me.

Did you guys see the black widow version they have on their website? It looks pretty sweet, but they are only making a hundred of them.
