WowWee's Lightstar flying blade reviewed: a cheap thrill
Looking for something to pass the time, scratch that robotic itch and come in at under a Jackson? Look no further than WowWee's Lightstar, the latest and greatest addition to the outfit's growing FlyTech family. The robot lovers over at RobotsRule were able to get their grimy hands around this here flying blade, and while they weren't expecting much for just $20, they came away delightfully enthralled. Essentially, there's no way to steer the chopper, but you can vary the acceleration and bounce it off of walls in order to keep your brain stimulated and a grin on your face. The real excitement kicked in when all the lights were flipped off and the Pink Floyd was cranked to 11. For a look at what we mean, check out the demonstration vid just past the break -- looks like $20 well spent from here.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG.... not interested :/... now.... scale it up to human size, and put a handle on the bottom of it so you can fly around on it... then we'll talk.
Just buy a Picoo Z
I think you could scale this up to carry humans. The only drawback I see is that the pilot would be vomiting uncontrollably.
They have scaled it up to carry humans, it's called a helicopter!
How do you exactly "bounce it off walls" if you can't steer it?
if you could steer it, you wouldn't exactly send it flying into walls, now would you?
Maybe if it had an atom in it....
It doesn't just have one atom, it has 23000000005486968758784757485
784796498675787487584858438578475743754785743574289829034905874875943
Maxwell....WINS
+1
Maxwell is off by a huge amount. The number of atoms in this thing would be closer to 1.0E23 atoms (1 followed by 23 zeros). Maxwell's estimate of 2.0E97 is greater than the amount of atoms in the observable universe, which is about 1.0E80. Oli's 1 is closer to 1.0E23 than Maxwell's 1.0E97, so Oli WINS.
+1.0EGoogol.
Science is awesome
Science is overrated.
+Graham's number
@Oli D
KFO is awesomer.
@Wolfticket
Agreed, Everything is overrated by default, that's why you have to manually rate them down by declaring they are overrated.
No, because avagadros constant is 6.02e23, so twelve grammes of carbon has that many atoms. I think the universe has a few more than that.
@switchbitch
Unfortunately, WowWee's website doesn't have the weight listed or the materials used, but based their other similar toys, it probably weighs about an ounce.
so, 1oz = roughly 28 grams. Not positive about this, but it is probably made out of injection molded polyethylene like a lot of toys..
polyethylene is made up of ethylene units (C2H4) which just happens to have a molar mass of about 28.05 grams/mol..
28g / (28.05g/mol) = 1 mol = roughly 6 x 10^23 molecules (avogadro's number)
6 x 10^23 molecules * 6 atoms = 3.6 x 10^24 atoms.
;)
Love it.
You can scare people in dark alleys with this >:D
who doesnt....
"A cheap thrill'
Kind of like ur ex
i see what you did there.
I see what happened here, they were trying to copy the Picoo Z helicopter and they failed. So they decided to remove half of the components and call it a flying blade.
Now people can't complain about it being uncontrollable because it's not a helicopter, it's a flying blade. And you're not supposed to control flying blades, silly.
Ideal for smuggling small packets into and out of secure areas?
No. If you could control it then....no it has lights on it and makes a shitload of noise. So no. You're much better off stapling said small packets on the inside of your pants zipper.
And here some people are using their rectal cavities for that.
"Flying Blade"?
Sounds like something out of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"!
oh wow you're cool.
go DIAF man.
such a stupid comment Gfar I am sure there is a site devoted to smut that you could contribute to but I dont think it belongs here
I would probably enjoy that after a night of dancing my ass off for hours to electronic music in a warehouse.
....if you were on at least 3 different drugs at the time then yes. Otherwise if you were on some random drug you'd chase it into a wall....oh wait.....you cant control it into a wall
I think one drug would suffice =P
Video is apparently not available anymore.
Without the video all I can imagine is that it's like a manhack from HL2.
Its available...Im watching it now
I am, too, and, unlike Wyatt, my apostrophe key's still functional.
but your comma is a touch hyperactive...
I like how the video says in the corner "RobotsRuleYouTube"
What better placement of their logo?
flying blade + razors attached to wings = exciting new game
I thought the original had two rudder blades, I'm pretty sure it did but I kno9w what this will end up doing. A whole rash of New UFO sightings all over the world or where ever this thing is sold.
I can see the number of UFO sightings increasing due to smart-asses with a sense of humor...
followed by lengthy internet debates on what type of alien propulsion it must use complete with links to spurious technobabble sites
Followed by someone pointing out that the only criteria for a UFO is that is is flying and unidentified. Therefore it is a UFO, even if it is highly unlikely to be anything alien. And thus ignoring any popular definition in favour of mindless pedantry.
I got really excited for a second then realized it was only like 7" across. yawn.
Love the reference to Nigel Tufnel....."What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?.....Eleven. Exactly. One louder."
Hopefully, this thing will be better built than its brother, the Bladestar. The Bladestar was a wonderful idea, but it was impossible to control, crashed into everything, and broke constantly. The propeller blades were made of flimsy plastic, and the larger blades were actually foam wrapped in aluminum foil. My Radio Shack had to RMAC (return to manufacturer) 3 of them between October and Christmas, store demo models damaged beyond usability.
Here's to hoping this model is built much better...
I got one of these for $6 at micro center in Detroit (technically Madison Height) . I refer to it as the spinning blades of death..... impossible to control and more then likely to take out your eyes .... but fun
it's petty WowWee
