Sony goes Cloud-hopping with Final Fantasy VII edition PS3
Like some greedy vampire that just won't rest, Final Fantasy VII keeps coming back again and again to suck the contents out of your wallets. Its latest incarnation is a re-release of Advent Children, and Sony's getting in on the game with yet another special edition console to celebrate it. The upgraded movie is said to boast 30 more minutes of gratuitous high-res animation action while the new PS3 features a 160GB HDD and a matte "Cloud Black" paint job with Cloud's Strike Strife Wolf emblem engraved (or at least appliqued) on top. The bundle with the movie (including a demo of Final Fantasy XIII) will sell for about $550 in Japan when it releases next month -- naturally there was no mention of a US release.

Stictly from a business standpoint on both Sony and Square Enix a remake is INEVITABLE. 1
you really think they are just sitting on all the data that was used for advent children? What about all the meshes locales renders for Crisis core? i totally believe that there will be a ff7 remake and it will be something like "the complete story" dl content for crisi core and outfits and everything. think ffx-2 and fully explorable locales.
honestly so much of the work has already been done it would be downright dumb not to tie it all back together.
But should they? I mean, really. The nostalgics will claim they got it wrong, the skeptics will bash it for being a 12-year-old game remake, and the purists will be frustrated that it's not good enough. And who does that leave? We few, we foolish, we consumers. I've played (and still own) every Final Fantasy game that ever came out, save Mystic Quest (The Heretic), and all I would have wanted out of a Final Fantasy edition would be backward compatibility. It would have been enough.
As it stands, I've been holding out on a PS3 because I don't want two large pieces of hardware on my already cramped entertainment unit. The money is less of an issue, more can always be made, but why am I going to spend the cash on another huge wall wart that won't actually play the dozens of games I've already invested in? Personally, I'd have been happier to have Square-Enix force Sony to do a universal-PS unit to go with it's nostalgia-inducing movie, so I can play FFVII and Dirge of Cerberus after I've watched the movie they foisted off on me.
Or perhaps the money I gave them in the past is nothing more than history to them. After all, if no one bought FFVII or Dirge of Cerberus, would this bundle ever have existed in the first place?
I think I'm going crazy here... twice now I've posted something along the lines of "just release a DS version for Christ's sake" and twice now said post has disappeared into oblivion. Perhaps a moderator would like to comment.
Assured sellers. Nice work SCEI and Square-Enix.
I shall buy it!! C'mon! I know it's expensive but if you really are a FFVII Fan, you'd get it! Besides, FFXIII is coming out in like a year do you might as well entertain yourself with the awsome blu-ray and original PS1 copy of FFVII....I can't wait!!! Oooooghhhhhh!! *excessive drooling*
If they re-included the backwards compatibility for PS2 games on this model, it would fly off the shelves. As it is now, kinda meh.
wait till the ps3 is hacked wide open like the rest of todays consoles, then they won't have to worry about doing silly sales stunts the console will sell itself, just won't be too many buying the games lol

Why would anybody think that you can post something like that online and not get called out for it. This is the Internet, people will say and do anything under the vale of anonymity.
