T-Mobile schedules the G1's European tour
So far the G1 has only been available in the US and UK, but it looks like T-Mo's about to take Android international -- we're told the HTC-made handset will hit the Netherlands, Austria, and the Czech Republic on January 30, Germany on February 2, and Poland a bit later. No detailed pricing information, but it's confirmed that Germans will be able to score a G1 for just €1 ($1.33) with a two-year contract. Hopefully we'll see that pricing make its way Stateside soon -- although the G1 is currently doing quite well at $179, $1 sounds even better.

Lucky Europeans.
Yes us lucky Europeans, having to wait three months for cool products.
Hell, I'd wait or 6 months to save $180!
We don't have to wait 3 months for phones. Laptops, TVs, Movies - yeah, that's a different story.
In the UK, we get every phone as soon as it's available and we get it for free on a £30/month 18month contract immediately.
Why do you mention "free" and "savings" or "cheap" when you still have to sign a 2 year contract, which ain't "free", "cheap", nor do you "save" on that... o_O
Why are you such a scrotum infection, loocas?
You'll notice he said 18 month contracts. That's not quite 2 years.
" "" " """" " " """" " """"
ow my eyes hurt after seeing white phone on white background >.
Where is the american freedom in the G1? In Europe we buy phones with no contract at all!

Android Dev Phone 1. $400USD without a contract, fully unlocked.
Seriously, who'd wanna buy this now? The incentive of android is not enough in comparison to the hardware of this device. At least what I think.
Clearly Marcus doesn't own a G1 and hasn't tested one out, because if he did then it would be evident why people want one. My iphone owning friends love the G1. You can't deny it's a fun, cool phone. Who cares if it isnt the prettiest one out there.
I own a G1...it's great. You know what my favorite part about it is? That I have to use a modded ROM in order to save apps on my SD card. You know what my second favorite part about it is? That I can't type comfortably on it and I don't just mean when I listen to music. You know what my third favorite part about it is? That I've been trying to sell it, unlocked, with my 8gb MicroSD card, for $225, for about 2 weeks now...and no one wants it. There's many more things I love about it, but I don't want to bore anyone...yay G1...yay.
It's free in the UK with an 18 Month contract. Seems to be a better deal to me.
I thought it was a typo at first, but wow, thats not fair.
Not fair? Their plan costs GBP30/month with just 300 minutes and NO free Internet. Internet usage is an extra GBP1/day.
The US plan costs $65/month for 300 minutes and unlimited Internet. The similar UK plan costs $89/month (GBP30+30)
Over the duration of the contract, that is over $550 more.
In the Netherlands, the phone is for free with a 2 year contract. You'll pay about $40/month, 300 minutes and unlimited 1 megabit 3G (it'll be capped at 384 kilobit after you've passed the monthly 2 gigabyte quota).
Not so, at £31.5/month is is the Flext35 plan (1000 minutes or 2000 texts or mix them up) and has free 'unlimited' internet.
Just bought mine the other day, here in the UK.
Phone was free with an 18 month contract at £15/mo using the Friends & Family T-Mobile deal. 700 minutes and 1400 texts with an unlimited data plan.
Ummm...
Last time I checked the UK and US were two different countries. That would make the G1 an international handset already.
At any rate, hooray for the have-nots joining the haves!
Nah, we're not so different :p
Last time I checked (a few weeks ago), you could buy the iPhone for 1 Euro as well from T-mobile in Germany (with the usual 2-year rip-off)
Lucky everyone except canada :(
I really want this phone, and would love to get it legally and pay for a contract and all that, BUT NOOOOOOOO, we hate canada!
God damn canada, it's treated as a third world country or something. (inb4canadajokes)
we're still holding a grudge over celine dion. damn canadians and their floppy little heads...
;p
/yell BLACKBERRY
/RLH
We are so screwed in Canada, left behind again.
Just ordered the G1 in the Netherlands with a 1 year contract for €59.95 (on a €40/month plan). Hate 2 year contracts so this is great!
Do you know what I hate more then 2 year contracts? Three year contracts. They are pretty standard in Canada if you want any sort of "deal". Its like signing a deal with the devil only the cell companies are more evil.
@adam
Normally I'd agree with you, but I lucked out a few months ago and got a Fido $17/Month deal. (No data, but I don't use that anyway as I have access to wifi 90% of the time.) So having that rate guaranteed for 3 years actually made the long contract nice.
The Europeans are getting it first? Here in Canada we don't even have it yet! Come on, what happened to NAFTA and all that junk?
The G1 hasn't come to Canada primarily because its chipset won't do HSPA on the frequency that Rogers uses. You'd be in the same situation as people who use the iPhone on T-Mobile in the States (or the G1 on AT&T), stuck on EDGE. There's probably also concern that Android phones would cannibalise the market for the other smartphone lines that Rogers offers, not just the iPhone but also the variety of Blackberries and Symbian phones they sell, but it's a moot point until there's an Android phone that will do HSPA on the 850MHz band.
Waiting for Cupcake? A Google developer just let it slip that it's still PRE ALPHA. Long wait still.
link?
Bring this to Australia please (and with someone OTHER than Tel$tra thanks very much)
Great!
My contract expires on June and I hope to find Android here in NL.
The problem is that I don't speak Dutch and I already got quite few troubles having a WinMo in Dutch, realizing that is not possible to change the language (not to mention that was my first and last experience with WinMo).
So, somebody knows if Android is like WinMo or if I'll be able to choose the language?
But it's a contract with 60€/month..
The G1 isn't so cheap in Europe, its right, you will get it for about 1 €, but here in Germany only with a 24-month contract, the cheapest costs 44,95 € (a.t.m. about 58 US-$), so it will cost over 2 years about 1080 € (1400 US-$). Then you can call cellphones (only T-Mobile) for "free" as long as you want, as well you can call the conventional telephone network, for all other connections you need to pay (as well you need to pay extra for SMS (out of the "T-Mobile Net" and MMS). So its not SO MUCH cheaper as in the US, it really depends on your use of the telephone and the package you choose ... for the smallest contract you need to pay about 775 US-$ (in Germany) plus the phone which costs then 77,50 US-$ ...
So its not such cheap, its like always here, you don't get (like in the US) about 500 or 1000 free minutes to use for cellphones or whatever, you have maybe here a flatrate, but only for T-Mobile and the conventional telephone network. And since I guess everybody has friends with o2 or vodafone (or other providers) you need to pay extra for each minute (exactly 0,29 EU-Cent --> about 38 US-Cent) ...
