Wooden MacBook case for would-be Amish road warriors
Cut down a tree to save a Mac? Sure, it's better than using your face. These unpriced (hey, if you gotta ask...) wooden slip cases with leather lining and magnetic enclosures are designed and custom crafted by Rainer Spehl to fit 13-inch MacBooks or 15-inch MacBook Pros. While that's clearly a last-gen MacBook Pro pictured, we'll bet that Rainer will build the case to whatever dimensions you'd like just as long as you've got the cash to back up that pretty smile. Else, why not roll your own.

This is pretty wierd. Wouldn't they scratch the macbook?
with leather lining
how dumb this is.
Not dumber than my 100 lbs each dumbbells
not as dumb as people buying macbooks in the first place.
(i have a feeling i'm gonna be lowranked)
@someone
... and I'm gonna help you with that.
Steve Martin had one of these in The Jerk.
Somehow I doubt it, strongly. Not the worst reason to spin up that old LASERDISC again though.
Bad Beaver: You know, if you don't feel like hooking up your laserdisc player, there is a neat trick. Take a razor to the laserdisc and cut it so it's the size of a DVD, then just insert in any DVD player. It works. You can trust me, I am from the internet.
I hope the magnet wipes your hard drive. What did those poor trees ever do to you? From those pictures that looks like laminate not real wood either that or it is the varnish they are using.
The MacBook (unibody, at least) uses a magnetic latch anyway.
There is no way the tiny little magnet in that case could wipe the HDD. Don't be ridiculous.
It looks like its got a soft lining inside. I still don't like it though. Just buy a Tight laptop bag. I'm waiting for some sort of sexual reference to tight laptop big.
Ummm ya, I've kinda lost the point on this one. If your the type to have a macbook, then most likely your the type that would look down on killing poor innocent trees to make something as silly as this. I'm just saying. Now, make one out of the bones of baby seals, and I'm in like flint.
Since when is it wrong to have products made out of wood? Don't you have furniture in your house? It is all metal and plastic?
I believe you mean in like flynn.
Sure, because Macs are so "green"
What weighs more - the laptop or the case?
oh that age old question,
its always cropping up
a friend of friendship, I bloger from indonesian, I would like to ask, how do I get back links from this site, please help

glad I could help! keep up the great posts!
Let's hope it doesn't bricked easily
Doesn't GET bricked. I suck at grammar
Not bricked, but given enough time it could become coal. Shiny and over priced coal, but that's just like the one we have already.
Amish?
What, is there a fireplace in there TOO?
no... but apparently the macbooks don't use electricity... they run on pixie dust...
Hey, I can always grow the beard.
and it can make your apartment smell of rich mahogany.
most definitely... but you need a shelf filled with leather bound books to make it work...
Only Mr Burgundy is allowed to refer to that fact.
"Getting a woody for a Mac" takes on a whole new meaning... You guys at Engadget have outdone yourselves!
thats actually pretty cool. wonder if he'd make one in Cherry wood and Studio 17 sized.
my problem with this design is.....It looks to be a very snug fit, and the outer edges of the entrance are not lined with leather....so any misjudgement of putting your macbook in this think and you will bang it against the wood.
think = thing
Thing Different
One more think.
I prefer cutting down a mac to save a tree. Even though i work for a company that cuts down trees for profit. how ironic!
Sweet... I will be the envy of all the jobless, pompus snobs at my local starbucks!
@fhlh
Actually, they may just try and stone you with [insert generic Starbucks baked product here] for showing some originality.
Despite working for a company that chops down trees for profit, i prefer cutting down a mac to save a tree. how ironic!
Tim, is SEVENmthy your Tyler Durden or a job partner? If it is the first, someone will have to warn Apple... They might be Project Mayhem's next target.
"enclosures are designed and custom crafted by Rainer Spehl"
I think "designed" is a bit of strong word don'chya think? It's a wooden box - a kitchen chair requires more thought and design than this. Saddest part is, somebody will actually pay for this crap.
Looks nifty for storing the Mac away at home, but the mere idea of carrying this around makes me think *OUCH OUCH OUCH*. Not very ergonomic.
Wait until they get infested with termites, carpenter ants and dry rot.
This goes great with my cigars ... I want one
This so freaking cool .. it will go very well with my iwood -iphone case by miniot ( http://www.miniot.com/ ).. Cant wait to order one .. just forwarded an email to Rainer Spehl...
lets hope the computer doesn't set the case on fire....
