Palm Pre Android port already in progress
The Palm Pre won't be out for several months yet, but that isn't stopping a few clever hackers from working out how to boot Android onto the pebble-shaped slider. As it turns out, efforts to port Android to the OMAP 3 processor used in the Pre have been underway since July of last year, so tailoring the build to the Pre shouldn't be too hard -- the difficult parts will be gaining serial access to the bootloader to enable switching between OS's and cramming both systems plus whatever apps and media you might have into the Pre's fixed 8GB of storage, since there's no microSD expansion. All problems we're eager to see tackled just as soon as the Pre launches -- doesn't seem like it can happen soon enough, does it?[Thanks, Chris]

PalmOS (the predecessor to WebOS as you should know) has system-wide searching.
I share your views, this home screen of android couldn't be worse, the pre with this home screen really looks horrid. And I'm a fan of android..... Hope they make a more dynamic interface....
Their reason for going with only 8gigs and no micro SD probably has to do a lot with the fact that people wanted a removable battery.
Yes the SDK for webOS wont be able to take full advantage of the hardware, but I want to know if developers will be able to integrate between apps like android. the use of the camera or google maps to create great apps or plugins in android is awesome.
that said if dual boot is possible i will do it to have the best of both worlds. And for everyone that thinks 8 gigs isn't enough storage, storage is a thing of the past. Why put music on my phone when I can access it all through sites like orb.com. Sprints network is screaming fast and I have been doing that on my Moto Q for a while now. If you gonna go on a plane, then just download a few albums or playlists through orb before you get on. Tethering my phone to my laptop most of the time i get a faster connection then a hardline from a hotel room.
i just read apple iphone record breaking sales during this depression.,i just hope palm pre does this good.i would hate to see this good product collect dust on shelves.,seems smartphone rule number one is now unofficially ,can not be priced more than the iphone in the united states.$199.
Actually, the source of this article is here: http://palmwebosblog.com/palm-pre-jailbreak/jailbreak-palm-pre-and-run-android-as-alternative/
There is a lot more info on how it could be done (in theory, of course).
I worked hours on research, so would appreciate initial source also stated, please, Nilay! :)

this phone is so damn hot. i swear if i see that little green robot im gonna skeet all over the screen. ill make every fucking pixel have an orgasm.
Palm & Sprint will be announcing the released date for Palm Pre by the end of March.
Like most people, I feel that Android on the Pre is pretty useless, but I can think of a couple important reasons to put it on at least temporarily. If you got used to free tethering and if all your favorite apps are still being developed. It might take a few months before webOS has everything we want, so this may be a good filler.
