White Pentax K2000 now available for pre-order

Pentax's convention-defying white and black K2000 DSLR may not be for everybody, but those wanting to stand out in a crowd of shutterbugs will no doubt be pleased to learn that the camera (complete with both 18-55mm and 50-200mm lenses) is now available for pre-order direct from Pentax. Best of all, it's available for the decidedly non-premium price of $679.95, which is actually a bit less than we were expecting when it was first announced. You'll still have to wait until mid-February for it to actually ship, however, but that should at least give you enough time to get the rest of your gadgets Colorware'd to match. Hit up the link below to get your order in.

Stormtroopers everywhere pull out their wallets...
All joking aside, this does look really cool.
Pentax -- the Official Camera of the Galactic Empire
You know...I'm not really sure what that would do to sales.
It would also be at home on the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Looks like the EVA pod.
Not for me thanks - my black D90 will do just fine. Plus (as hinted at above) I won't stand out as the Stormtrooper-wannabe holding an iPentax.
So says Yoda...
I think it's pretty classy.
Nice very apple :)
so everything white is apple now?
excuse me while i go vomit into my apple branded toilet.
@suprx: Just as long as you pay the standard royalty to Jobs for using your iToilet for such a use.
If it was MS the toilet would not flush :)
looks like cookies and cream
When looking cool while taking a photograph becomes more important than taking a cool looking photograph...well, you should realize that you aren't a real photographer.
That being said...this camera looks hot and no, I'm not a real photographer.
I am actually very interested in this. If this is Pentax's direct price, I wonder what places like Norman Camera will sell it for. Maybe even less. But, I wonder if this package with both lenses is a Pentax direct deal only. Either way, I think this kit would put my 40D to shame. I have been eyeing Pentax for quite some time and this might just be my next purchase.
I just got a K200D. It puts every other entry SLR to shame. Bought 5 lenses off eBay for $94. I have great primes and zooms now. The K2000 will be no different.
Does it have pop-up flash? I cant seem to get a definitive answer. The specs say yes, but there is no button to be found?? Normally on most other Pentax DSLR's its between the big "PENTAX" on the top and where it says "K2000" on the right. I had a K10D and loved it, but had to give it up. I'm now TOTALLY into this one. I'm even tempted to pre-order! I just want to know for sure that it has pop-up flash.
Thanks in advance!
You know, that kind of information can usually be found where it says "Specifications"... like the tab they have over at the posted link above. You should check it out! :-p
It does. It pops out above the Pentax logo.

Yes it's a K200 but it's practically the same body.
yes, it does have a pop-up flash ... and the button is at the top left hand side. i know, 'cos i own a black k2000. its pretty sweet...
Zelatio, the camera is based on the K2000 body, not the K200.
My Opinion Simply:
Please Stick With Black, Manufactures..
Anyways, overall not a bad camera but I just can't live with the white. If you like it, you can have the right for your own opinion.
Amazon has this in black for $399: http://todaysepicdeal.wordpress.com/2009/03/09/pentax-k2000-102mp-digital-slr-camera-39999/
Ugly
but no one care's what a hobo thinks
I am agreeing with jack. Sorry.
but he is a super hobo, this change everything.
You don't care what Hancock thinks, eh?
Well, how about THIS???
*flips your computer over*
How do you like THAT, huh?
Does anybody know if this is a limited run or will it be readily available, say in Summer '09?
If the American market is like anything in Japan, it would be a limited make. This particular pentax was limited to 3000 models in Japan - when pre-orders opened, all positions were taken....
But again, I don't know about it being limited State side.
I think most DSLRs are fugly cameras, and am really diggin this. Might be in the market soon and throw down with the Pentax
Canon was there with the white SLR gear years ago with the L-series lenses. They look super-fine, but the price tags... I'll just sit happy with my 'budget' £400 70-200m F4 L.
Congratulations on that other-brand rip and mid-range zoom name-drop all in...one sentence.
I have been eyeing this bad boy for a while, saw the pre-order, was considering pulling the trigger, and then... "EWWWW AA-Batteries!!!??". Such a nice looking camera deserves a proprietary Li-ion battery pack. Fumbling with the + & - of AA's would just make me feel cheap, like entry level kodak C713 cheap....
AA do suck, deal breaker
You can say you are a doctor and get women to undress for pictures, that's the idea right?
I think I'll wait for the pink one to come out.
