Sprint Treo Pro spotted in the wild, specs and all
Thanks, Best Buy -- we owe you one another. Yet again, we're getting our first real live look at a recently unveiled Sprint handset courtesy of the big box retailer, and this time it's the CDMA version of Palm's Treo Pro. We're also being blessed with a look at the specs sheet, which shows Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 512MB of storage (300MB available to the user), a two megapixel camera (with a digital 8x zoom and video capture), removable 1,500mAh Li-ion battery good for five hours of talking, a microSDHC slot, microUSB 2.0 port, 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, WinMo 6.1 Professional, a 528MHz Qualcomm dual-core MSM7501A CPU, 320 x 320 touchscreen, EV-DO Rev. A support, 802.11b/g WiFi and built-in GPS (standalone and assisted). So, aside from the cell radio, it's pretty much the same Treo Pro we've grown to know and kinda-sorta love. No price was posted, but it's not like Sprint hasn't already told us -- have fun in the gallery below!

Looks good.
I've played with the Treo Pro here in Australia, and I must say it's quite a nice little handheld. The square screen isn't the greatest achievement, but it's serviceable, and as a Palm handset running Windows Mobile, it does exactly what it's supposed to, and sits right in the middle of it's core demographic - Hardcore buisness users. But even people with only basic buisness needs - like myself - wouldn't mind using it. To the point of me considering it as my first WinMo phone.
I eventually went with the Omnia, because it was cheaper and had a larger screen. I'm more-or-less happy, with both it and WinMo.
really forget about the treo pro, we wanna hear about the palm pre already.
I've been waiting for a CDMA Pro ever since I saw the GSM released. I only hope I can get this to work on VZW's network.
@Drew Green
If there is a will....
I think I've seen more articles about the Sprint Treo Pro than Palm is going to sell Sprint Treo Pros.
The lack of enthusiasm for this particular device around the various web sites, including Palm Fanboy sites, is notable.
I saw one at my local Best Buy and it was listed at $299.99
Man it seems huge in that picture there, or the guy has small hands.
Shots are kinda blurry, but it looks great. Had a bite of iPhone and Pre, I found myself still irresistibly in love with WinMo Devices.
MicroSD?? You know, you could have made this phone sexy and slim if only you left that out!
Has no one figured out that this is just a dummy model? it's most obvious since the photo was taken next to a pearl dummy, and on top of that...the screen shows that there's data transferring with the arrows going left and right...you really think they have it activated and transferring data already? and how come there's no other shots of a different screen? they may be getting this phone soon, but that is certainly no indicator that the live models are in stock already. those dummy models normally come in about a week to a month prior to launch or release for sale....so yes, it's closer...but that's not the real deal.
I believe you're right, The clock is not ticking, it stopped at 10:15 in all four shots.
it has to be a dummy. the todays screen lists 1 new "SMS / MMS"...
everyone knows sprint rips mms out of all of their windows mobile phones.
Not dummies. At Sprint store I have used the in store test model, which is fully activated, for 30 minutes the other day, including installing software via the SD.
Best Buy has full working retail models but they are being held back and they are unactivated. It is a great phone.
if the Pre wasn't coming out by June, i'd be getting this....oh well looks like i'm going from PalmOS to Palm WedOS without a stopover in WinMo land
You're going to marry the OS?
It's real. We have a live one at our store but we cannot sell until Feb 15
a real source. impressive.
This is on best buys Mobile Catalog for 249.99
Fake, either a dummy or a paper cutout... gradient is the same in all, time is the same, image looks 2D in some of those photos (read: the comparison with a real centro)
Nice try.
What does this mean?
built-in GPS (standalone and assisted).
Can Sprint mess with it like they do my Touch or can I get a fix as fast as with their TeleNav app?
Standalone GPS gets your location ONLY by the GPS chip
Assisted GPS (aGPS) initially bounces off of cell towers to get a general location, and then switches to the GPS chip. Typically much faster when initially aquiring your handset's location.
What you neglect to mention is that it has 20MB less free RAM than the GSM Treo Pro after boot.
The GSM has 60-something MB, the CDMA has 43.
The faster processor doesn't really make up for being able to run less programs at a time.
Also, there's more pictures at Treocentral if you're a member.

The reason for the 20 mb less available is a much more advanced explorer which plays flash, and video from youtube as well as a number of other improvements. The reason for the delay is that they are optimizing all that to use a bit less memory and free up a bit more..
looks pretty good, a worthy 800w successor
Why is it so ugly? Oh wait, it's running Windows Mobile, that's why.
Might as well get the iPhone.
I had a client come in last week that was using this, pretty nice, she loved it until i showed her the engadget aritcles on the PRE..ah, that wasnt nice of me.
And when the Pre comes out in May there will engadget articles that make it look like yesterday' news as well/
the launch date was pushed back till either 2/12 or 2/15 and they wll be 250 for new or upgrade. i work at bestbuy so be on the lookout mid february.
p.s. best buy is supposed to be the exclusive 3rd party retailer for the first 60 days of the palm PRE launch
There is no documentation about that.
Come on Best Buy employees! Didn't you guys take the VIP e-learning.
I putted one for sale on http://www.kuulutused.ee check it out
Another yawner.
Come on this is a dummy phone we get them in early at my service center just like this joker at bestbuy! Plus he is taking his shots with a Centro bwahahaha.....FAIL!
It's really weird hearing "new" news about this device. Palm has effectively made their entire line-up obsolete with the announcement of the Pre.
But for the ignorant lump consumer (read: potential RIM customers), this is cutting edge.
the ingromant "lump" consumer isn't going to care that unlike iphones and Pre [when is it coming May or June?] this is massively powerful handset that can run full versions of Garmin and Tomtom anywhere in the world, that it can be set to be a wifi hotspot, that there are hundreds of major programs avaialbe on windows mobile, that it browses in Flash, that it has better battery life, is fully supported by enteprisem, and has removable storage up to 32 gb.
The "ignorant lumps" buy phones as fashion. This is a power user device.
