Sprint Treo Pro now on sale at Best Buy
We already knew that the Sprint-branded Treo Pro was making guest appearances at the occasional Best Buy, but thanks to a hard working web admin, you're one step closer to owning one without having to step foot in the aforesaid store... if you're willing to wait, that is. Palm's CDMA Treo Pro has found itself a holding page on Best Buy's website, and while we're desperately hoping the $699.99 off-contract price is still subject to change (read: drop), those anxious to get in early can pre-order one as we speak. Loose estimates have it shipping in a week or two, but we noticed that the handset was go for in-store pickup in most B&M locations near us. Oh, and don't forget the "Great Financing Offer" as you checkout -- with a sticker pushing seven bills, you'll probably need it.

Somehow I think people are now more interested in what's coming after, named like it's coming before.
Treo retreads are all well and good, but this tire has a LOT of miles on it.
matt @ Jan 26th 2009 3:21PM
Oh, remind me, how much is the iphone sim free? Oh, Wait.
Making stupid and innacurate comparisons makes you look like an even bigger oxygen thief than you currently are.
iphonerulez @ Jan 26th 2009 4:20PM
It's nice....but it's not an iPhone and what's worse, it's running WinMo.
Naruto @ Jan 26th 2009 8:17PM
Matt, the Treo Pro isn't "SIM free". You can only use it on Sprint's Network.
Oh, and SIM free Iphone 3G is $699. I admit it's pretty expensive, but at least it's less than the Treo Pro which isn't SIM free.
IHateM1chigan @ Jan 26th 2009 12:46PM
haha...
Kris @ Jan 26th 2009 12:47PM
Waste of money. I've been very unhappy with my Treo 800w and can't see myself sidegrading.
chambo622 @ Jan 26th 2009 12:53PM
There is little reason to get this thing compared to the many other better phones out there unless they get it under $100 w/ contract.
We just need to wait for the Pre.
Stranger @ Jan 26th 2009 12:54PM
The phone looks good, but it's no Palm Pre... I'll wait for that
Tom Reinke @ Jan 26th 2009 12:54PM
I'll stick with my Treo 700w. :P I enjoy the freedom and versatility of Windows Mobile too much to go back to a Palm OS.
stevied @ Jan 26th 2009 1:05PM
If you weren't an idiot, you would see that this is a WinMo phone.
Tom Reinke @ Jan 26th 2009 1:07PM
Oh, lol, I totally misread the title and thought it said it was the Palm Pre...
nerdtalker @ Jan 26th 2009 1:15PM
I'm a WM diehard, but... uh, respectably, I think Web OS has WM beat by a few orders of magnitude to merit switching back.
Sad that about 5 years ago, it was the other way around and WM was the Lexus of smartphone OSes.

I'd like to think I am a gadget nerd, but I just can't see myself spending $700 on a cell phone... I'd probably go buy a laptop or something...
Jordan @ Jan 26th 2009 1:01PM
Brilliant!
Sprint and it's wonderful marketing strategies are at it again. Epic Fail. A $700 cell phone? lol. Sprint should follow suit with Circuit City and liquidate assets.
boe @ Jan 26th 2009 1:13PM
$700 for an antiquated phone (old OS, low res screen etc), laying off 8,000 employees, driving away more than a million customers each quarter while all other providers are gaining customers - but getting paid $27,000,000.00 a year to drive a company to bankruptcy - priceless.
jimbob @ Jan 26th 2009 1:10PM
You people do all realize that $700 is the unsubsidized price right?
Scuba Steve @ Jan 26th 2009 1:14PM
Yes...which is $200 to $300 higher than the non-contract price of legions of other smartphones, including the G1.
Scuba Steve @ Jan 26th 2009 1:12PM
AWESOME! I am going out RIGHT NOW and getting one! I am SO PUMPED!
Okay, I just thought that the thread needed a change of direction...but yeah, this is crap. WinMo? Dated, rehashed Treo design? 700 beans? Yeah, okay.
Android is here, Pre is on the horizon. Stick a fork in this crap already...and that's from a guy with a 700p
nerdtalker @ Jan 26th 2009 1:13PM
iPhone mention = fail
iEye in disguise = fail
Statement of sheer genius: "Um hello Palm, you NOT Apple and this is NOT an iPhone!!!!" = priceless
Ellianth @ Jan 26th 2009 1:14PM
Woot, he's back. Now i can get my daily laugh.
Daniel Holt @ Jan 26th 2009 1:14PM
epic fail.
davep @ Jan 26th 2009 1:16PM
dam, thats expensive!
Mike Hayes @ Jan 26th 2009 8:36PM
Its all yours with Best Buy's 18 months NO INTEREST financing! Get here quick while supplies last
Phoenix @ Jan 26th 2009 1:18PM
He actually seems to have stopped being funny...
Thataboy @ Jan 26th 2009 1:21PM
Yea, if this ancient brick costs that much, how much do you think Palm/Sprint are going to require for the Pre?
Freakin Ijit @ Jan 26th 2009 1:34PM
That is a key question.
Bill @ Jan 26th 2009 1:25PM
you're all pinheads.
This was on the Sprint site the other day and it was $249 after 2 yr.
Mark @ Jan 26th 2009 1:26PM
Relax guys, there's no way it's going to sell for that much unless you're stupid enough to shop at Best Buy. If you are, you can also get a Palm Centro for $519.99:

I think this device is stillborn. It will sell a couple of hundred. I have iPhone and will likely switch to a keyboarded smartphone and carry an ipod touch for browsing and games. AT&T is really really bad. Have 1 year left on contract, time for Apple to show up or give up to Pre.
Look @ Jan 26th 2009 1:39PM
Who cares...?
Verythrax @ Jan 26th 2009 1:45PM
Please someone tell me where to get a GSM one for ~300 unlocked, cause I want to import it
Thanks.

389E in vodafone.ie on prepay. Monthly contract from 229E. https://www.vodafone.ie/df/shop/ProductDetails.shtml?handsetselected=100146&offerSelected=postpaidnew&action=view
Using this phone since October. Best Windows based PDA with qwerty ever used by me (previously HP 6915, Palm Centro, Toshiba U900)

"On sale" = Priced lower than usual.
"For sale" = Available to buy.
darthgault @ Jan 26th 2009 2:08PM
i can't deal with the square tiny Palm screens ... i'll stick with my LG Incite.
suicycle.com @ Jan 26th 2009 3:41PM
So is it Best Buy or Sprint that should explain this? You can purchase much better phones -- contract free -- directly from the carriers for less than this. There are a couple of the GSM Treo Pros on eBay right now for less than $500 (including the shipping).
Pasha @ Jan 26th 2009 3:50PM
I think that maybe it was made to be the iphone killer price-wise?
700$ plus kills .. and it kills more toads
ricardo ramirez @ Jan 26th 2009 4:06PM
i just went to see it and its listed at 599
Albanian_Killa @ Jan 26th 2009 4:48PM
Why are all Apple fanboys little drones that can't get real women, that they feel Apple is their wife that they have to defend it every chance they can get.
Apple fanboys = Losers.
Not saying Apple products are trash, they're good, but they have the trashiest fanboys.
Oh, and eye eye, the iPhone isn't all it's cracked up to be as a smartphone. My Nokia N95 is a more capable smartphone. Steve Jobs also did not invent multi-touch.
wud_e @ Jan 26th 2009 9:27PM
Now that is pricey
Shakapooi @ Jan 26th 2009 9:39PM
FOLKS REMEMBER THAT bestbuy ALWAYS INFLATES THEIR FULL PRICES FOR PHONES BECAUSE UNLIKE sprint (and the other carriers) THEY DO NOT DO mail-in-rebates, THEY GIVE IT TO YOU instantly with contract WHEN YOU ACTIVATE THROUGH THEM.
SPRINT TREO PRO full price is $549.99 direct from Sprint, NOT $699.99. THAT IS A bestbuy specific PRICE.
DaKrisht @ Jan 27th 2009 7:27AM
Someone said it before "epic fail" --- great job, couldn't have said it better myself...
LMAO --- $699, Palm, are you serious?
Are you people smoking the peace pipe or that thing Mr. Peterman told Elaine to stop smoking!!! :)
I would rather use a Motorola StarTac than this thing...
http://www.atomicsub.net
Pascal @ Jan 27th 2009 10:41AM
@daKrisht,
Of course, if you bothered to read the comments, that is not Palm's price nor Sprints price, that is an artificially inflated price Best Buy lists in order to make the subsidized price seem more attracitve.
You must think the Nokias, Att handsets, Verizon handsets etc are all "epic fails" too since they are also often priced at Best Buy $100 more than anywhere else.
The handset is $599 no contract and $250 with contract and it will see strong corporate sales, you know, among grownups who want a very powerful phone and not a toy.
It will sell strong on Sprint, and Verizon is picking it up in May.
