HP's six-cell battery for Mini 1000 offers twice the battery life, a fraction of the value
Mr. Blurrycam never lies, so when he caught sight of a six-cell battery for HP's Mini 1000 we knew one would be coming soon. Sure enough, three weeks later it's up for sale on HP's site selling for a bargain (gulp) price of $153.90. That's almost half the cost of an entire machine (which currently start at $350) and as of now you can't pay the difference to upgrade from the stock three-cell when customizing a new netbook. That's an awful lot of bank for twice the battery life, but don't let us rain on your parade if you're looking to do your part to help the economy.

This is one of the best looking netbooks. I'd like to get one, but the specs really suck for the price.
At least now they have the Atom processor, and not that Via.
if they threw the 6 cell battery in as an option to the 8.9" screen and charged 399 i think that would be reasonable. i dont care about the ram they offer because by default, i'm going up to 2 gb and probably going to put a 64 gb runcore ssd on there anyway i would blow about 625 on it when all is said and done. and dont give me that fullsize laptop crap, portability is a huge issue to me, the keyboard on this thing is great. but until they put the 6 cell in and drop the price to the competitors this thing is a no go
Better specced and better looking alternatives abound , often at a better price too.
MSI, Lenovo, Sony, Asus, Dell, Medion and many other producers offer better alternatives.
well i already have an asus 901 i bought for 400, with a six cell battery, i put 2 gb ram for 25 bucks, and bought the runcore ssd for 200 (64gb), then put windows xp on it.
the keyboard is just killing me though. dont get me wrong i can type relatively quickly but there are still iphone-ish typos i tend to make. i was going to give this one to my mom and buy something relatively perfect for me. it doesnt sound like hp wants to do that for me though.
$150 for a 6-cell netbook battery...no thanks. But I would like one...for my Lenovo S10...and I'm not having one shipped over from the UK. But seriously, $150...HP this is just like your toner & ink game...bring on the 3rd party batteries.
I'm not entirely sure what HP was smoking when they set up their online pricing. If you buy a pre-configured Mini 1000 from Best Buy, it runs $399 for the 10.2" screen, 1GB ram, the 2GB "Disk-on-Key", 16GB SSD, Windows XP, etc... If you try to set up the same configuration at HP.com, it costs you $50 more.
Shouldn't these two prices be... similar? Or does HP just prefer that you buy their products from Best Buy?
i have been waiting for this.
however i was under the impression that all mini's had the sim card slot but on the site one starts at what? 500 and anther at 300?
How long is twice as long?
I doubt I'd ever need more than 6 hours...
That's what she said.
And if you open it up you will only finds a few AA type NIMH batteries slapped in there...
$150, laptop batteries are a scam.
Dear HP:
I'm still waiting on a fucking VGA out dongle.
Sincerely

@d0n0vAn. I was waiting for HP to release some sort of display adapter, but I ended up getting the Toshiba Dynadock instead. For ~$100 it's been pretty good.
What the hell, HP? I love your netbook, but a six cell HP Mini 1000 certainly can't compete with the NC10 and U120 while charging over $500.
Of course, for a few dollars more, you can just buy one of their 2100 series laptops, get the 6-cell battery already, and have a better casing.
Well, in Canada, the HP 1000 runs at the chutzpah-inspired price $550 (and that ain't all exchange rate) so a $155.00 battery looks cheap in comparison.
;-)
I heard from liliputing that the HP models arent that great, input anyone?
WHERE IS IT?

I can't find any HP Mini 1000 for $153.90... I'd but it NOW if I could.
ignore that... that's the price of the battery alone :) crazy me for thinking otherwise...
It'll be a LOT cheaper when it's available as an option with pre-configured machines. On the other Mini-Notes the normally-$120 battery is $30.
Well there goes that purchase... i had previously thought that rumors of the VGA dongle being 70 bucks were ludicrous, but now I'm not so sure...
$150 is sort of high for the 6-cell battery, but i think i am going to pick one up anyways. Right now i'm in class on my mini 1000 and without it I would actually have to listen to this guy talking about economics. I would love to be able to use it for the whole day without having to bring along the charger.
HP, you there?
Yeah, I tried to calm Samsung down, but they're still laughing at you, now why don't you come downstairs and have some cake? Want some cake?
By the time you spec this machine up you might as well look at an entry Vaio P.
Absoeffinlutely expensive! You just lost a customer HP.
Now if I could just decide between an NC10 and U120.
Really, all this does is inflate the cost up to the $500s - about what you'd pay to get a similar Eee PC, MSI Wind, Dell Mini (with no battery upgrade) etc. after taxes. I'd probably still choose this over the rest of the pack. I have a 2001 HP laptop that's still running XP like a champ after all these years and an HP desktop that's served me well since 2005 - that said, it may just be my brand loyalty speaking.
If I were to go along those lines, I'd have to choose the IdeaPad S10. Been a Thinkpad user since the days of the T20 and I still have a four year old T42 running without a hitch alongside my T400.
But there's something about the S10 that seems repulsive. Perhaps its the charm of the Mini or the class of the Vaio.
If you read the link, CTO = Customized to Order.
It just means that you didn't select one of the pre-built, ready to ship Mini 1000's, and instead customized your own. That doesn't really make sense considering they found this in the parts store...
