I must of missed the last update with MMS =[

iPhone Dev Team Message:
*******************
Hold your horses!
There is an iPhone and iPod update available in iTunes - it is numbered 2.2.1 (5H11a).
Please DO NOT update. We will investigate and report back to you ASAP.
*******************
Must have, not must of.
How long do we have to express our interest in these features until Apple responds?
The iPhone is still incomplete and these minor bug fixes barely warrant a 200+MB download!
Come on Apple, listen to us...please?...
@Juaquin
Dude, I'm still waiting for the ability to cut and paste between folders in OS X.
Apple seems to think that copying and pasting between folders - then going back to the original and then deleting it - is an efficient use of my time. Muppets.
does anyone know whether:
it's also released for the ipod touch as of yet?
if it's possible to go from a jailbroken 2.2 touch to a jailbroken 2.2.1 touch via quickpwn yet?
Dont use this update until your dev team posts on if it will brick your iphone or ipod touch etc.
Wow, iPhone firmware? This totally merits yet another story.
Wonder what this one will (inevitably) break more things as well.
Someone need a hug?
They left out another feature.
■ iPhone firmware 2.2.1 breaks all the current jailbreaks and may brick your jailbroken iPhone / iPod.
Sure missed the stories about the instability of Safari.
Eeeew...... gross. (I meant your picture).
safari crash???? never!!!!
Actually Safari crashes more often on my MacBook than on my iPhone.. True, I have Safari 4 Dev Preview so it's not as stable yet, but on the iPhone it's not so bad!
Safari crashes several times a day on my iphone. It's very annoying that it doesn't ell you why either. You can go back to the same page and it works fine??? I'm not that impressed.
Patriks -> Try visiting let's say a skyscraper site (SSC) with a lot of constructions pictures, news and even more pictures. The little Safari in iPhone do not like I tell you ;)
safari cashes so much i want to throw my phone.
it can't handle pages like gizmodo.
er but it handles engadget
Thank you for attending our class. Today's discuss was on "Sarcasm".....you all failed.
Every lit fix helps...
That's what she said... right before I left her.
"minor stability improvements"
"move along everyone! "
Makes you wonder why this made the cut for a post, doesn't it?
I keed, I keed... but not really.
How many people own an iphone? Every psp, psn, xbl update gets mentioned, why not this?
idk, maybe a lot of people send the news in so they decide to post it, if 100 people sent this in, then Engadget thinks people want to hear about it, and if only 1 person sent it in, then maybe its not on the priority list.....
I'm guessing it more likely fixes that pesky "yellowsn0w" bug.
I guess your guessing is tragically true.
Probably, but I also read on a 3rd party developers site (not sure which, might have been Tweetie), that features were being held back due to memory leaks in Safari, and that they were investigating it with Apple. If they found something concrete, this would also explain the update.
I posted here yesterday mentioning how the iPhone's 1.X firmware was great and that Apple bottled it with 2.X. Next thing I know, there's an update fixing Safari. Hey, Apple - the teleportation feature's crashing fairly often as well.
Christmas in January? I don't know about you, but I expect more from Christmas.
haha +1
I see what you did there..
You explained Paul Miller's sarcasm for those it was way too subtle for the first time. Thanks!
SURELY you left out on accident I"m sure the part about Push?
Its not there!? *sigh*
PUSH NOTIFICATION...
When??????
Last November! Or so they said..
I think I'll pass on this one and get the 2.3 when it comes out...
Finally!!! The minor enhancements I've been waiting so many months for.
did it just cause
Is it really too much to ask that I could send appointment requests to others from this thing? It emails. It creates appointments. It can't create an appointment and email it. WTF?
None, because the Razr didn't fail at what it tried to do, and didn't try to be something it's not.
All these months for "minor stability improvements"?
My iPhone been running quite well, no crashing, nothing unusual, etc...
How about a real update with the features we've been longing for?
Oy frickin Vey Apple
Why fix what's not broken? You admitted yourself that your iPhone has been working great, what exactly are you complaining about?
Last time I checked, additional features should just be considered the sugar on top - not what you expect.
Wompa it's not really sugar on top when every other smart phone on the market does what the majority of Iphone users want.
I tried to update and it wouldn't work because I don't have Paul's iPhone.
Boo. That's it. I'm hijacking my iPhone.
Yeah, because the Razr never had any problems....... fixed.

How many updates? Quite a few, if you were on Verizon or Sprint.
What, ATT still doesn't support OTA updates? What is this...1998?
I think I'll wait.
Not much to see here. Please move along.
I agree, this may be for the jailbreakers.
I just updated mine and is sure did take a long time for a minor update.
Just installed the update, tried to sync my playlist... starts to sync and then it suddenly stops. No errors, no warnings, just it does not sync. Anyone with the same issue? Would it be because I'm running Windows 7?
277.7MB. its like a PS3 style update or something. I just finished installing on 2nd gen ipod touch - no issues here.
is iTunes even certified to work with Windows 7?
oh jeeze! don't use programs that arent fully debugged and retail released!!! scary scary.
Well duh...
"how many updates have there been for the RAZR? the best selling phone evar!?"
eye eye self owns himself again.
I agree. Time to Jailbreak,
Anyone have a direct link to the download for iPhone 3G?

Actually it's more than "minor stability problems".
They fixed a serious bug that could left you without the ability to send SMS.
See: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1804224
Apple PR is full of euphemism, changing "a major problem" as "just a minor glitch" and changing "just a few and insignificant new features" to "a brand new and innovative new feature".
And that is different than any other company how?
Whatever happened to their multitasking alternative that was supposed to be the best thing EVAR?
Are you saying the more updates the better the product? So is Windows the best OS?
I've had my 3G for over 2 months now and have to say it isn't much better at stability than windows mobile and way worse than Palm's I've had. The only reprieve is that it doesn't take the whole phone down when apps crash, but it is slow to recover some times.
This morning I was adding a calendar entry(just like another one so copy/paste would have been great) and it crashed after typing a whole bunch of stuff!! crap
I think I will be looking elsewhere for my next phone. I feel the thing is more of a toy than reliable/useful PDA phone. I would actually think about switching to sprint if the Pre reviews come on good.
Your mom is a toy... J/K
Non sense, the iphone was 100% stable before it was even conceived.
and it was all downhill from there...
I like how is profile is no longer private
man when will they actually make it to where you don't have to basically format your phone, it is quite annoying

is it possible to upgrade phones early on AT&T, because I think I'm going to get a WinMo phone if apple doesn't put in the necessary parts to actually make it a sort-of good phone. I mean, I had better call quality on my original LG Chocolate!
hopefully this will fix the annoying problem I'm having with my 1g Touch (2.2 firmware) - it turns itself off all the time and miraculously drains the battery over night and resets itself to Jan 1st 2000!
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Just buy one unlocked, it won't cost much more...
I dunno about upgrades on an iPhone plan though
Hopefully I'll be able to listen to music and visit a web page with a picture on it now. Or be able to enter some text online. yay............
Err, why does this merit a story?
It's an iPhone firmware update. Very interesting news for anyone with an iPhone.
More importantly, why bother posting a comment on something you're not interested in?
I need MMS!!!! Come on Apple, I could buy a phone at 7-11 that can send pictures
lol, this group is funny...it is a minor update, hence the 2.2.1 designation, vs a major update say a 2.3 or 3.0 designation.
Give the company a break, are they not allowed to make continuous improvements? Would you rather they just build and forget like many other manufacturers?
Regardless of how minor, I like it when companies stand behind their products and continue to update them so as to make them better for their customers.
I think copy-paste is a bag of hurt.
Maybe they'll eventually fix the iPhone's alarm system. I'm tired of my alarm not functioning because I have an unread text message.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, I've never had that happen. The iPhone alarm is probably the most reliable part of the device for me!
I saw the link, connected my iPhone, hit update. 18 seconds later (yeah, 18 seconds from plugging the iPhone in to my computer), the update was downloaded... Then 3-4 minutes later, the install complete! Gotta love fast internet! At my parents' place it probably would've taken over an hour...
These improvements probably mean very little day–to–day, though my Safari does crash every couple of days...
The 140MB PS3 2.60 update got criticized on Engadget for being too large, and that added a new feature (debate whether you want it or not).
A Holy Grail...err iPhone update does nothing visible, yet there's no complaints about it's 240MB file size...funny...
I was just about to make a post about the size when I read your post. Downloading the update for my Touch 2G, 277.7MB...you've got to be kidding me. I'll be happy, though, if it stops flaking out and randomly deciding it doesn't want to run any apps...or randomly drop wifi.
Is it me or was this changed?
Under
Settings/General, they moved the Network Settings ABOVE the Bluetooth Settings.
It used to be under the third-set of settings, down below "Location Services".
That's new....and better.
it's just you. i've yet to update, and my settings have network settings, then bluetooth, then location services.
This is good news, I hate Safari crashes on my iPhone when loading larger web pages... hopefully this should fix it.
iGO: I still have 2.2 and Network is above Bluetooth in the Settings/General page.
For those iPhone owners who are constantly complaining about copy/paste MMS, just jailbreak your phone. There are two excellent copy/paste solutions available and at least one MMS/text forwarding program plus themes and other apps. Stop begging to Apple and just do it yourself.
Apple is great at giving people exactly what they dont want. So, in the future, I would suggest we tell apple what we "don't" want and then watch with expectations. I'm glad Im so smart.
Hi everyone ! Just updated to 2.2.1 my iPhone 3G original from Claro - Brasil.
Did not see any differences although the download was almost 250MB big.
Waiting for the "hidden" features to come up.
Engadget rocks !
Ahhh the joy of owning a legit unlocked iPhone 3g.
Bought it in SA (where they can't lock to a carrier) and I'm running it on AT&T without a hitch.
Damn it!!
Things i all would like,...
1. message forwarding
2. landscape keyboard for texting
3. copy and paste, AND not cos everyone demands it. it just that its a handy thing to have!!
Who the hell cares about copy & paste!?? Do you know how embarrassing it is to tell people you can't send or receive MMS messages!?!? :(
Methinks you get embarrassed too easily.
And still no copy/paste. I loved my iphone at first, but every time I try to do something for work I've got to take out a damn paper and pencil to write things down to take from one app to another on my smart-in-name-only phone and it's getting downright ridiculous. If the Pre can be convinced to work on something other than sprint, my iphone 3g will be gone faster than you can say repeated failure to implement necessary end user features.
dude just jailbreak your phone already... Clippy beta allows u to copy n paste across most apps possibly all.. and BiteSMS allows you to go landscape, foward and delete individual sms's and a bunch of other stuff.
My iPhone has a browser? Holy shit, this thing is incredible!
There is a brilliant copy and paste out for the iPhone, its available via cydia and its called clippy.
works by double tapping your screen and holding down on the second tap and draging. then press the numbers button on the keyboard to bring up the options. copy/paste/stack/close
I "upgraded" to 2.2.1 and now my wifi on my iPod Touch doesn't work!
I'm only getting one blip on the wifi meter and I'm sitting right next to me router(which is working fine by the way). What the heck Apple!
It worked fine yesterday before "upgrading"! It also keeps saying "Unable To Connect To Network".
I'm still waiting for the tethering....
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-10083957-37.html
Copy and paste would be nice uhm, cause like every other smart phone on the market does it.
And to all of you who say "why don't ya jailbreak it" PISS OFF.
I suppose we might just have to wait for 4G Iphone.
