FiOS 50/20 with 32 customers sharing 2.4 Gbps/1.2 Gbps of bandwidth - $140 Charter 60/5 with dozens of customers sharing 152/30 Mbps of bandwidth - $130-140
Upload speed is very much meh. I'd much rather have a 15/15 symmetric connection, which cable pretty much can't do.
Also, wherever Charter sells their $130 60/5 service, Verizon is going to drop prices on its 50/20 internet to $90. And get all the customers they want.
Heck, Verizon will probably up their internet service to 75 or 100 Mbps on the high end later this year, thus blowing Comcast and Charter outta the water. They simple can't compete without making major infrastructure improvements. Verizon has to do almost nothing to improve their network to match...
Also, Charter will be selling 20/2 internet as their next highest tier. Right around the price of Verizon 20/5 service. Yep, 150% more upstream speed. Looks like Charter is stomped right out of the gate.
Still, it's better than my options here: DOCSIS 1.1 cable via Comcast or ADSL (5/896 is the highest speed) via Qwest. Fortunately Comcast is very good network-quality-wise here (not quite perfect but decent) however I'm paying $55 per month now, $65 per month soon for a 8 Mbit connection. The real reason I'm paying the extra few bucks is I want my 2 Mbit upstream...
Just wondering...what'll Time Warner Cable do now? 50/2?
The Cobra Tag may help you win that losing battle, acting as a Bluetooth device that attaches to your key ring and connects to your phone, it gives you the opportunity to find the missing item if it's less than 30 feet away.
