Hitachi H001 with 3D display leads up KDDI au's Spring 2009 lineup
So KDDI's latest lineup of new phones features the usual array of 8.1 megapixel cameras, wide VGA displays, one-seg TV tuners, and teleporters, but one particular handset stood out: Hitachi's Wooo H001. The dual-hinge flip's claim to fame -- well, besides the bizarre color scheme -- has to be the stereoscopic IPS display that presumably uses the same parallax barrier method shown off by the carrier late last year. The phone will happily serve up 3D-ified versions of various UI elements and mobile TV content, and when you start to get woozy (or Wooozy, as it were), just flip a switch and you're back to the reassuring flatness you're used to. It'll launch in three colors in April, and naturally, you'll have to be in Japan to get it.

goodness, the japanese get awesome phones, i'll have to go there some say
well I say go.
Japan is overpriced and overrated. Its best where your home is, not where Japan phones sell.
SHINIGAMI CHOP! (my dreams of japan)
awesome! however why doesn't it have a dual webcam so you can see the other person in 3d? looks like a large oversight
Exactly my thoughts, but on the otherside: the implementation of 3D in our phones with dual cam would be to much. Implemation should be slowly(just like Blu-ray, you can't hurry it). So dual cam will offcourse be the next feature of the Hitachi phone in 2010.
nice, finally, bukkake in 3D!
you, my good friend, are a man of class and intelligence
boo, whoo, wooo I wonder if the 3-d glasses will match the phone color.
Uh, you realize it's the new type of 3D LCD screen? No glasses required - offset pixels make sure each eye is viewing a separate image as long as the user is directly in front of it.
But wow, talk about geek factor if you actually did need 3D glasses when using your phone out and about in public. =D
I love the disclaimer that says "People don't actually come out of the screen"
dealbreaker
teleporters???!
Yes, personal teleporters. They teleport the phone back to the shop after a 30-day period.
1) 3D is useless and doesn't work
2) 1 SEG works in asia not in the US, so why talk about it here, when something works in the USA let me know.
There are a lot of Engadget readers who live in Japan (like myself) as well as other countries. The entire readership of Engadget isn't only in America. They are doing a good service by providing gadget news from all over the world. The world does not revolved around America. Japanese phones are years beyond any American-branded phone, so it's good for everyone to know what is available everywhere else in the world.
Imagine if Engadget publishes only the tech from US, this site should encounter a real problem because of lacking the amount of media material. Do not get me wrong, I wish this excellent website to be a center of knowledge sharing not just limit to US to US.
To open up and see the truth is necessary for everyone to realize what is actually happening to us. Otherwise, you will see only what the particular medias let you see and believe.
typical american perspective.. if it doesnt concern them its not important.
well, the world kinda does revolve around the US, at least economically. US recession --> global recession.
"The world does not revolved around America" The world just DEPENDS ON AMERICA
Wow, you guys went all out with the tags. Now I know why I get all those bullcrap articles when I click on those internal links. The next time somebody clicks on a Sony Ericsson or Cyber-shot link, they'll get this phone. Very smart.
casio, cyber-shot, ericsson, hitachi, kyocera, panasonic, sony, sony ericsson, SonyEricsson, toshiba
Nice list :)
Its worse than CraigsList.org!
There's a Cyber-shot in this range. Every tag is here for a reason.
Did anyone notice the bit about how it can record photos and video to playback in 3D as well?! How in God's name can it do that with what appears to be only one sensor? Oh, and Softbank also released their Spring lineup, which has a cycloid Sharp with twin tuners (another world first) and resulting twin channel recording capability. And its recent 8 megapixel CCD sensor. Oh, how I wish I was back there.
The Ric Flair phone!
A slim and more sexy version of Nokia N90
Do it have the whistles that go "Wooooo" or the ones with the "Woo Woooo"?
Yeah, but the Japanese don't have cyborg insects, now do they?
man, Ive been waiting for this for a long time...
man...luckily im heading back to hong kong in april...meaning i can get it there (we get alot of japanese products...somehow or another)
Disclaimer: closing the screen doesn't actually chop that guy's head off.
