Recession Roundup: volume... oh nevermind

We like to spread good vibes around here, so believe us, we're getting pretty tired of this global economic collapse. However, there's more bad news to dole out. Kodak's reported a 24 percent sales drop and announced it's cutting up to 4,500 workers this year, while Toshiba posted its first loss in seven years, and announced cuts that would bring their expenditures down 80 percent from the current year. Finally, although this was previously predicted, Sony's announced that its profits were down a staggering 95 percent last quarter -- its first-ever third quarter loss posting. The Federation is not going to be pleased.

Nice facepalm.
It's nice to see that engadget has both a sense of humour, and spends as much time trolling the net as those of us who use firefox and have 9001 addons. Either that or they saw that the facepalm is a universal gesture of despair and has been around since time immemorial. i just find it amusing to imagine the engadget staff mostly just sitting in the office with huge piles of empty jolt cola cans, going on 4chan all day :)
Amazon - sales up 18% and the share price up 12%.
Ryan,
Well it is likely his name is Jon Norman, here is a picture of him: http://www.flickr.com/photos/38614316@N00/ (he's the big guy to the left of Ryan Block in the centre picture.
He has used these names in Internet in the past: flashpoint; bloodfalcon; argonbuddha; hollowpoint; big; normgarry; j norman; jonathan n; jonathan n the registered REPUBLICAN; chineseloverman; chinesevaginafinda; dslcobra; gracefulcobra; gracefulcobra2; gracefulcobra3; gracefulcobra4; gracefulcobra5; bigtruckseries; and quantumphysics - xbox live.
If you have a few hours, follow the trail of bullshit and you'll see there is no S550 and likely no Ass Principalship. You'll see a guy who spends a lot of time building his ego and being banned from websites.
Weird, this was meant to go up a bit, for Ryan Trevisol.
Ha ha! I love those screencaps you use for these stories! What show is that again?
Just kidding :)
Keep it up guys, and don't be afraid to pull from DS9 and even Voyager, bet those have plenty of these. :D
All very sad. The Knight Foundation has laid me off too. Damn you KITT!
One small question, where is the notice of a cut of the jobs in AOL by 10% and the freezing of pay?

I wish Engadget would pay a little more attention to what they wrote instead of copy-pasting fragments of stories into a post. Does anyone really believe Toshiba could cut 80% of expenditures?! Really? That would mean they'd basically shut down operations and file for bankruptcy. What the article DID say was that Tosh would cut capital expenditure by 60% and R&D by 20%. It should be clear to anyone that you can't add these two up and apply it to total expenditure.
As for Sony, as someone pointed out, you can't have a 95% fall in profits AND have a loss for the same quarter. Again, the loss was only for part of their operations (electronics division) whereas the 95% drop in profits was for the entire company.
I hate this situation, one of my friends was laid off this morning and I know that I'm next
