Samsung NC20 sees foreign review, universal appreciation
According to a remarkably lengthy review penned in Russian, the NC20 is a real stunner. Somehow, Samsung managed to stuff six hours of battery life into a machine with a 12.1-inch display, which ought to please anyone truly looking for ideal netbook functionality. Of course, it didn't fare so well under intense gaming pressure, and even the art of multitasking with three or more applications seemed to bog it down. That said, we are talking about a netbook (and not an ultraportable), and its ability to handle HD video was rather impressive in its own right. So far as we can tell, reviewers were pretty pleased with the overall package given the relatively low anticipated price (we're hearing $500 or so for the US market), but you can draw your own conclusions by giving the read link a visit.

Hope it gets released in black or blue, not really feeling the white.
...in its own *RITE*.... not "right". :-|
Actually it IS "in its own right".

You can't join "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?"
You sure are dumber than one.
Sounds great! Whilst netbooks may be able to up their battery life with future models, i think they will always suffer under heavy processing / gaming. Battery life on my eeepc 904 HD is almost halved to 2 hours after a 30 minute game of trackmania! Small price to pay for fun mind you :)
Way to plug.
What version of trackmania are you running? I can't get playable speeds with EWSC or Nations on my 1000h.
Yep we are starting to feel the NC20 love over at the Samsung Netbook community (www.sammynetbook.com). I'm looking forward to hearing from the first owners. As an NC10 owner it is not something I will need to buy as I don't think it has anything more to offer besides the extra size. But for people who find the 10" screens a little too small it is going to be a great choice!
ps. lol @rite. Er....
It's a bit big really. 12" is standard laptop size, by the time you get to that size you lose one of the biggest selling points, the chuckinbagability.
yea.. no way I'd moniker this a netbook. Anything above 10.1" is a UMPC
It's a crazy world we live in when netbooks (like this one) have 12" screens and ultra-portables (like the Vaio P) have 8" screens. Everything used to make sense in 2008...
umpcs are generally smaller than netbooks .. from 5-8 inches usually ...
I just hope that black and orange sticker (it is a sticker, rite, I mean right?) comes off easily. I wouldn't look too bad on a black machine but really sticks out on the white.
no thats permanently silk-screened onto the body ;P
Nice.
But wrong screen and OS.
IF i can get it in nongloss and with linux, then im interested.
You can even get OSX with not much trouble on NC10
And if linux is your thing, I doubt it'd be hard installing ubuntu
Probably not. This thing is running a VIA CPU. While that is a nice thing, because it is possibly superior to the Atom, it also is a bad thing, since the driver support is rather unknown at the moment.
I rather would have linux working out of the box, and not after days of hard work.
Best netbook ever.
Wait, does it do Aero?
I would like to know as well.
yes i have the NC10 and it does it awesomly
Isn't the NC10 on a different platform? Chrome9 in NC20 vs. GMA 900 in NC10.
1280 x 800 screen resolution and a smooth 1080p playback? I'll take 20, as in NC20.
1080p video at 720p resolution! Good thing processors don't bitch like 5th graders about doing unnecessary work.
I'm concerned about the battery life in that review. It has a 6-cell the same size as the Eees but their "web browsing" benchmark only returned about 3 hours, and 6 hours for a complete idle. That said, HD video watching is a big step, it should convince Intel to hurry up on their own solution.
4 hours of HD video looping does bode well for the video fan, mind you.

this is via nano, right? 6 hours of battery life is amazing...
the only minor thing is that the screen edge is a little too thick and keyboard is not up to edge either, really like the way hp mini 1000 does to the keyboard.
really love this thing, if the price is right I will get one.
Make a PINK version (for a lady friend)
Does it have HDMI out?
As why would I watch 1080p media on it's 720p screen?
because you have the media in 1080p and downgrading it to 720p is a great way to waste time?
Looks good, though I wonder what bitrate the hd video was running at. I'd love to load a portable hdd with ripped bds/hd-dvds for travel but none of these netbooks can handle the high bitrate. We need one with an IGP that can decode the hd video formats.
do want!
Bah! 12" is a bit too big. I'd rather buy an ultraportable (like the Thinkpad X series, for example).
I found a review that's translated by real people, i hate that google crap...
I think 12 Inches is too big too, but the batterylife is pretty amazing.

To Michael Dell: this is how you help Russia (and the rest of the world including USA) - make better products!
This is what all the notebook reviews should be like. Very detailed and precise. Great job at Gagagadget! I wish there were such good reviews in English-language internet
Thanks for your warm words and wishes :)
So, I submitted that website and I was super giddy because it was my first thing ever submitted. I was sort of shocked that it wasn't already up there.
So I was the one who submitted it because I was sort of shocked it wasn't already on the site. I assume it might because of all the speculation as to whether it was the real deal or not. But when I saw that website, I came ghosts.
White makes it look so Mac.
If it's $500, then it's reasonable for 12.1-inch screen.
Looks like BT are taking pre-orders in the UK at £390.98 + Shipping for both the Black and White models. Expected this month.
