Seemingly real Windows Mobile 6.5 screenshots trickle out of leaky internet faucet

A fine fellow over at the xda dev forum has posted some screenshots of what is purportedly Windows Mobile 6.5 -- and well... they look plausibly real. They're pretty Zune-ish (though maybe slightly less so than the last ones we saw), and also pretty good looking. There's still no info on when we can expect 6.5, though rumors have it that it'll be at MWC. Check some more photos (including the honeycomb app launcher and IE mobile) after the break. Hey Grey Crowned Crane, how're you doing?

Okay, to preface this, I have a WM device currently. However, if this is what Microsoft thinks it has to be doing to keep up, they're going to crash and burn pretty fast with WM in the next few years.
WinMo 7 is coming later this year (supposedly) that will be more or less a complete UI rewrite. This is just an enhancement to WinMo 6 to clean it up and make the main screens a little more finger-friendly for those manufacturers who aren't designing their own Home Screen skins. It's temporary by nature, probably a couple of basic design features back-ported from WinMo 7 to keep WinMo 6 from getting too overly outdated in the meantime.
They look like fakes to me.
Guys, this is still unofficial--keep that in mind. What we're seeing might be alpha, beta (or maybe even final) code. We don't know.
So, while I share your sentiments and concerns, reserve judgment. I think MS could polish the menu system with some snappy graphics, finger-orientated browsing and improve other factors (for example, dialer/contacts/tasks/calendar) to work better with a finger, and have themselves a pretty slick 6.5.
Plus, what if 6.5 is available as a WinMo system update? Yeah, take every phone with 6.1 and bumping them to something vastly improved is a big step in the right direction.
Now, we just need to hope that this comes true, and that MS does redesign 7 from the ground up to be a new, fresh OS.
Bingo! I agree!! 6.5 should be an OS update to hold us over until complete "7" re-write to compete in today's market/standards etc.
This honestly looks like a crappy windows mobile 5 theme that someone made. Seriously, look at how awkward the font is and how on the second screenshot, the bottom bar to lock the phone is covering one of the icons. It just doesn't seem like Microsoft to make something that crappy in the graphics area. I doubt this to be real.
It still looks ugly compared to TouchFLO 3D, or even that ASUS interface for WinMo. I was hoping for some major changes, but I guess these are major changes from WinMo 6.1 without HTC, ASUS or Samsung interface. I know I would never chose this over FLO. I'm hoping that HTC launches another new interface for use ontop WM 6.5 during MWC, that is the only way to make me buy WM device again (own Diamond now) over Palm/Android/N97...
@Brad: That is amazing, sir. Thank you!
This looks like a big improvement in UI department, not much for features yet. I think I'm still going to hold out on a new Winmo phone until winmo 7.
Of course it's not a Photoshop job!!! If that was the case, then there would be an element of imagination to it. It can't come close to the Palm Pre or the iphone, but overall it isn't too bad. Besides the graphical element though, WHY DO THEY STILL INSIST ON A F**KING START MENU!!!
Thats kind of their thing.
LMAO - oper.ru is a Russian jokes/fun site, it's just a linkbait but a funny one
I wonder how many visits they got from this prank already :)
There's already an xda-developers thread where you can get a 6.5 image for the Titan:

I luv WinMo, but this obviously isn't 6.5, but if it is then damn.... internet explorer needs an update and that honeycomb isn't really that good either....... but WinMo is like dat not so goodloking girl who can do any and everything( not in that way) but with real copy/paste, flash support(mobile IE 6 and 8) , M$ office, tons and tons of apps..... etc.... etc.... I cud go on
But it is better than phones which are just for Icandy(you all kno who u r) ..... and btw A horrid UI does not kill you
@Brad:
I hope engadget makes a post about your script, or at least implements something like it.
These douchebags are getting really irritating.
as long as there is no multi-touch or the iphone like feel to the WinMo. I won't even think about it.
Does anyone really care? Most people would agree WinMo is heading to a graveyard.. :)
You are aware that the total phones running WinMo outsold iPhones last quarter, right?
who the freak uses an ugly bird as their background, apart from Siegfried and KAOS of course?

Hey, I'm not terribly advanced in my knowledge of mobile UIs but, I get the impression that WinMo 6.1 has the most support and is most likely to be updated, and also that it has the most apps - in particular the most advanced apps as WinMo is the most advanced Mobile UI; is this true?
Also, can one upgrade the UI??; basically I'm terribly torn between the HTC Touch HD and the Blackberry Storm, and I dont know which to get: my primary cause of angst with the Touch HD is the poor reputation of WinMo due to the need of a stylus; however, if I were to know whether or not this could be upgraded to WinMo 6.5, which might have addressed these issues, then the Touch HD would be the clear choice - unless you experts know otherwise...
OMG! compare the Emu picture to the look younger add one on the side (The one with AOL search at the bottom) They look the same.
