Gridplane releases hazy NXE mockup that never was

Design / animation studio Gridplane's recently unloaded photos of a mockup it contributed to the Microsoft Xbox team in charge of revamping the Xbox user interface, which eventually became the New Xbox Experience, AKA NXE. There are a few things here we like -- the design has a clean, other-worldly feel to it that's semi-appealing. However, we're not so into the milky haze that could have separated us from our beloved, fashionable avatar. Check out a few more shots of the proposed design after the break.

Imsure the milkiness would have went away when they launched it.... I like this better though....

What irritates me is that you don't have any way to turn off the incessant prompting to create a damned avatar. It's easy enough to get around, but I would like it to quit bugging me every time I sign in to my profile.
I second that. After using it for a while now If find the new interface annoying and I actually find it much more difficult to find what I'm looking for.
Another thing, some old themes do not really work with the new interface as promised. Any theme that uses light colors in the upper half of the screen will make the menu difficult to see. Customizable colors for the win... honestly more customization in general would have been the direction to go in...
Oh and in reference to this post, that design looks a bit more creative...

I like the way this mockup looks, even better than the NXE... has a nice futuristic touch... The short animation on their website that shows of the interface tops the nxe!!
I am surprised people even buy MS anymore. MS makes shitty software and even shittier hardware. Zune fiasco, Xbox360 RROD? PS3 is more expensive but it's the mac of the console world. Better hardware and more reliable. I am so happy with my PS3.

Mac's have better SOFTWARE, and then even that is up for debate. Their hardware (I'm talking about apple's pc components) is shit. You equip a dell and a macbook with similar pc components and mac's are always significantly more expensive. Macbook screens suck (http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/28/laptop-display-comparison-awards-top-marks-to-lenovo/#comments). Their laptop chassis are pretty nice, but I'm personally not a fan of their keyboards.

Mac has had its shares of fiascos...... With MS though when you hold above 80% of the market share as far as OS's its bigger news to report it......
What you also buy when you buy a mac is the ridiculous tag of insanity that Jobs holds..... "No one shall easily replace batteries in some of our products....." I bet an evil laugh ensued.....

It's nice but I'm not mad at NXE either. They're very similar and for some reason it looks like it can be sold later on as a skin.
I agree. The current NXE's not bad (makes better use of visual space than this), but for what it's worth, this would probably have been just as nice.
i like how this retained some of the old blade feel. NXE did everything it could to get away from blades. The current interface is useless to me because there is a commercial on almost every tab wanting me to buy something, and then the My Xbox tab is bland and devoid of any style.

I never liked Miis in the first place, and now it seems every other console is trying to make their own versions. I'd much rather just link to my Facebook account and have a regular picture for other people to see rather than some gay little photofit avatar.
