Xbox 360 HDMI audio fix arrives tomorrow morning
Notice something missing from your Xbox 360 ever since the NXE went live? Some HDMI-connected gamers lost all audio after the update, and a fix is finally on the way. According to Major Nelson, it's due to arrive February 3 at 2:00 a.m. PST in a mandatory dashboard update that should address the issues experienced with some HDTVs. That problem with your idiot friend always triggering the witch while playing Left 4 Dead? Still unaddressed.

yay!
i can finally use the cable that has the equal capacity for hi definition as opposed to what i have been using up until now component xD
Your avatar is amazing.
i was just waiting for someone to mention it
FINALLY!
This is the best type of avatar I've ever seen! It's also pleasing on the eyes!
High Ranked for an awesome avatar
High Ranked, because most people don't understand that Touchthis is greyed out, which in the nerd world means, Can't Touch This
No, AK66, we did get it.
Dork.
I lost audio and video. No signal whatsoever. If it isn't fixed with this update then I'm going to complain. It the only thing I can do yhort of trying to take them to court and that's a bit over the top.
how are you going to update if you lost video?
Component cable dumbass.
Umn... you never actually said it was only HDMI video and sound you lost...
Wow, better late than never I guess...
Oh wow glad that didn't effect me I could not been able to buy another tv just to play games. Could barley afford the one I have now.
funny. i heard about it but never knew anyone it impacted. it certaintly didn't affect me when using hdmi.
I've lost sound on my 360 hooked up by HDMI twice. It just didn't want to work. It happened once in the old dashboard and once and in the NXE. I had to disconnect the cable for a day or two and it would work again.
This update is long overdue. I've had sound through my HDMI, it would just take 20 or so seconds to til it came up after booting my xbox. This is going to relieve a huge headache.
20 seconds of no sound is a huge headache? If that's all you've got to complain about in life, your lucky.
Ive never had a problem-this is all new news too me!
I've been totally invulnerable to this problem cause I use the component cable for digital audio out and the HDMI for video.. screw paying MS $50 just for the stupid adapter..
Glad it's fixed for everyone else though :)
$50? Wow... it came for free in my $150 extra Elite box.

It'll cost you no more than $5 on monoprice.
I've had this problem with a Magnavox HDTV, the sound would drop out, only solution was to switch to a different input then back to HDMI. But I also had a problem where I would be at a loading screen and the signal would make the screen stretch beyond the TV's border vertically then back again. It would also happen when I would pause the game. I didn't think of nothing of it, cause I'm new to HDMI and thought it was the signal refreshing the screen for a reason.
Anyway go to see a swift response on Microsoft end FTW!
the weird thing for me is that everything works fine, UNTIL i try to use netflix on the xbox. there's no sound while using netflix.
Here I was thinking it was me and my Media Extender configuration!!!
Left 4 Dead was such a rip off. It costs way more than all the other Valve games, and once you finish just 2 or 3 of the Scenes it gets really monotonous, especially when you have a noticeable latency. The last 2 Scenes I finished just because I paid for the game.
WTF are you talking about? here, at least, it cost the same as another VALVe game at release, and it does NOT become monotinous. The AI director makes sure of that.
Then again, I do play it on PC
Well in India L4D is 1000 Rupees. All the other games are dirt cheap compared to that. You get a pack with CS Source, HL2DM, DOD Source for 500. You get Orange Box for 500 (including HL2 and HL2:EP1). You get CS Anthology (CS1.6, CZ, CZ:DS, TF, DMC, DOD) for 300.
My 360 crapped out one me 3 times in the past one year and I had to pay to get it fixed, no money left for games now
sigh
Very odd issue.... I have two Xbox 360's both with HDMI and both with HD DVD's connected.
One is the Elite - never encountered audio problems
The other is the Halo SE version... That one messed up twice! The first time I was watching Val Helsing and it failed half way through the movie and the second time, I was playing Gears of War 2 multi player. My headset was send/receiving fine but the sound was choppy coming from the TV and ended up stopping completely! I unplugged the HD DVD drive and had to reboot the Xbox...working fine now.... I hooked up the drive again and I have not had any further issues. The only difference is the system that messed up has the Xbox Camera attached to the HD DVD USB port. Connected to audio problems?

On a side issue....anyone know if the Arcade Editions have disc read issues? My friend bought the set that some with the Sega Tennis. It was new as well as Gears of War 2 (also new). He does not have a hard drive attached and keeps receiving disc read errors as if the disc is dirty (when it's not).
I'm wondering if Microsoft would replace the box since it was purchased from Circuit City (good deal! $150 NIB!)
My wife bought one as well. Also picked up a 80 PS3 for $300ish!
yes, and i did not care
that sucks
WTF are you talking about you moron.
About time! My nephews have been playing World at War with audio issues for months. They'll finally hear what they've been missing.
I just bought a new arcade on Saturday. I haven't had a problem with it and i haven't personally heard of it being an issue with arcades in specific. id ask if he went back to Circuit City to see if they would replace it... but since they are closing i would bet they wouldn't. since that probably wont work just send him to the "Support" section on xbox.com to start the repair process. They will tell you if the system will be fixed for free or not after you fill out the forms.
Left 4 Dead includes its own solutions to friends startling witches: shotguns. As a witch is rising, introduce her head to the business end of a shotgun and that's that; she's "CROWND", as the achievement is called. Also, there's the fact that witches aren't particularly interested in any of the survivors except the ones who startle them, so whomever does the startling is the only one in much danger. Well, aside from the nearly endless hordes of other infected, that is.
See, the iTards are all morons. They don't even realize what they story they're posting on anymore.
No Xbox for me says this observer, you guys type like harsh gamers. I didn't play as much and pretty much the only game I actually played most was the Orange Box. I haven't even finished GTA IV, LOL and my Xbox 360 BROKE and isn't covered anymore by warranty. I might get a new one when the new Jasper ones arrive but I'm not in a hurry. Right now I'm catching up to my PS3 the only game I actually own and finished is MGS4 GoP and it was awesome. Resistance 2 amazing, my friend brought his Xbox 360 and we had no issues with games, except that when we watched Blades of Glory HD DVD the sound wouldn't work until I unplugged the HDMI cable and then re-plugged it. This wasn't a new NXE one too so it probably wouldn't work now.
I hope this fixes my HDCP errors!
Wow... for such a small fix, it sure took a long time to install!
Can't notice anything except that now my media extender just hangs with a neverending circle icon... yay!
I have a teac 22" it stopped working with my hdmi... seemingly after a game update (xbox non online users will know what im talking about) well i have had the internet on my xbox for a while now thanks to wireless broadband, and it just installed. I read somewhere it might fix hdmi audio issues, so i thought to myself why the hell not. Put it in and worked. So yeah im pretty sure did hdmi fixes. It also had this xbox sounds on which i hadnt seen before. I am an Australian user so we havent really had this before.
