New iPhone in June? Somebody seems to think so
Apple has a habit of refreshing its iPod and iPhone-type products on a pretty regular schedule, so a new iPhone in June really wouldn't be the surprise of the century, but now we've got word to that effect from the United Arab Emirates. Etisalat is picking up the iPhone 3G over there, along with providing support for existing iPhones sold on the gray market, but the writeup in Business 24/7 makes mention of a brand new iPhone hitting in June, which Etisalat will also get at launch. This could easily be a misunderstanding on the part of the reporter, a misquote, or a combination of signs, portents and omens, but it's certainly an interesting little tidbit. We'd have to think that anyone liable to get this story right would also be aware that a brand new iPhone would be worth more than a passing reference, but we suppose we'll just have to wait and see. Apple Insider also mentions rumblings of an upcoming iPhone having a fairly significant architecture overhaul -- that's mostly conjecture at this point, but might make sense (or room) for an iPhone nano. And you know how we love the iPhone nano.

Thinner, better battery life, HSUPA, higher res screen, more memory...
Lots of stuff they could add to stay competitive with new competition.
I heard this rumor (new iPhone release in 3 months) from my wife's mother, who is not tech savvy. She says she heard it from a friend who knows someone working at or with Apple.
She's far from reliable source. That said, I'm tempted to believe it because she never talks about tech.
I still won't buy one until the data plans are actually affordable (a.k.a. NEVER).
Meh
You know... I've never really wanted an iPhone. I got an iPod because it was free... but they've never appealed to me. Apple is to strict with them - always trying to watch what you're downloading, and not letting you have full control over the device. Hell, you have to hack it just to install applications that they don't deem worthy.
I do hope something comes out that takes their egotistical, self-proclaimed awesomeness down a few notches to reality. But then again, I've always seen Apple products as a toy - something not really usable in the real world. (yes yes, I know all you graphics guys like your macs... go cry to the starbucks counter).
I'm sorry... Did you just type something?
My votes for new features:
- A compass, like the G1 has.
- Maybe some more RAM; I think it's this, rather than CPU speed, that is the limiting factor for apps. Then perhaps we could have some level of background task functionality. I don't want to have multiple GUIs running simultaneously, but if my apps could be woken up periodically with location updates or timer events then that would be really useful.
- A choice of keyboard or no keyboard. People with fat fingers who do lots of email will prefer a keyboard, while other users won't; neither group is "wrong" so why not keep both happy.
- Upgrade the iPod touch to include GPS.
- Give it a much better camera. Or, why not a new product that's an "iCamera"? Get rid of the phone (but keep the GPS) and it will be the first digital camera that can run third-party apps.
"first digital camera that can run third-party apps." i think it is not correct, i remember a camera that runs some emulator.
Anyways, iphone will need a decent camera WITH AUTOFOCUS.
1) buy iPhone 2009 on contract
2) sell iPhone 2009 on ebay
3) massive profit
4) buy N97
Throw crappy N97 away
Man I finally took the plunge on a 16GB iPhone 3G just yesterday. That only leaves me with what, 4 or more months into my 2yr contract before obsolescence? :)
Then again, going by the "pretty regular schedule" of past iPhone releases that the article mentions, I guess I should have realized this...
Proper GPS would be a nice addition. This is the only thing that prevents me from buying one today.
the new iPhone will be the same as the old one, except it will come in different colors instead of just black and white
I'm still waiting for Apple to release the iPhone Pro (with keyboard), iPhone Air (just a thin screen), iPhone Nano (says it all) and iPhone Shuffle (lulz).
I love how iphone haters like to bring up Nokia phones (they never bring up Blackberry Storm though).
Nokia ain't got nothing on Apple. Apple is the first phone I ever owned where I felt it was MORE than a phone/PDA. I guarrantee you, the average iPhone owner has their phone in their hand playing with it longer than the average Nokia user.
and we all know how valuable time is spent on the iphone, showing off 'cool' apps like the lighter one or the beer pouring one .... yay, oh yeah and dont forget trying to open the MMS message that you got from your buddy using a phone 10 years older than yours.
haha
Flashpoint = FAIL
Right. Because the whole point of phones is to play on them.
I so want to say something about iPhone users having something small and delicate in their hands.
"the average iPhone owner has their phone in their hand playing with it longer than the average Nokia user."
yeah, if phone=penis.
wait. i have a iphone. damn. good thing i'm not average (its not the best phone out there).
Hey can you guys paint my next conversion van? With such amazing illustration skills not sure why you waste your time on this tech stuff .
In terms of the next iPhone it will come out some time in the future. It is an absolute. Just like there will always be a next iMac, MacBook Pro etc etc. However the gossip and rumors are always fun!
There will absolutely be a new iPhone coming out in June/July. Apple sticks to a schedule for releasing new products. Now whether it is the iPhone Nano or a regular iPhone is tough to tell. Maybe both!
I would arrange the dock with the iPod application instead of Settings. Right?
i can confirm o2 uk stated to me a new iphone around june 15 :) sweeeeet
