Timex Expedition WS4 can't wait to get you outdoors
Timex has always had a thing for pumping out wristwatches that cater to argonauts, and it's doing so yet again with the totally bodacious Expedition WS4. Aside from telling time and withstanding minor bumps, bangs and raindrops, the piece also features an altimeter, barometer, thermometer, chronograph, alarm and compass. It'll also resist water intrusion for up to 50 meters, get lit via Indiglo and arrive in a variety of hues to match your favorite day pack. Word on the street has it that the watch will be widely available in May for around two bills, and while it won't play back MP4 files, it can be worn in public without embarrassment.

My Tissot T-Touch has most of the functions (if not better since it has touch screen) and look just about 10 times prettier.
and only cost you 10 times more
+1 on the t-touch for something that's not embarrassing in public (and that some nerds will think is cool for the touchscreen crystal). not quite ten times more expensive, but certainly a few more shekels than this aesthetic horror.
don't get your hopes up about the thermometer though. it's only useful when you're not wearing the watch. when you're wearing the watch you end up with a body heat supplemented reading.
link it to my pc and phone via bluetooth. use all that display real estate for something useful and let me put data on it (like the databank watch used to hold!)
it can't be that hard to fill this up with some memory. a decent rechargeable battery and some crossover features from the modern world of computers. a garmin 405 for geeks, not jocks. and this is much cooler looking than the garmin.
those are all places where this misses.
wow im FIRST for the FIRST time!
donno how this post been sittin here for 30 mins with no comments...is it that bad???
How can this be worn in public without embarrassment? This is the ugliest watch I've seen in a while.
loooks geeky... :)
Folding OLED or nothing.
Garmin 405 FTW. This thing is a PoS.

Is that a graphic of "the terrain to come" or "the terrain that's been" or what? And what happens if you make a turn?
I'm confused...
279 € for this? Two months ago I bought a watch with the same features for 29,99 € at Lidl.
One feature this watch is sorely missing is solar power. All these functions drain battery life fast. If you are looking for something like this I would recommend a Casio Protrek model that has everything here plus solar minus cost of Tissot T-touch.
and my tough solar protrek is what, 5 years old? it even syncs JST!
most importantly... How thick is it?
(because that t-touch is almost unwearable)
I own a Timex Pathfinder and I am sad to see that besides rearranging the chairs on this baby, nothing new has been added. Still no Timer. The Temperature sensor sucks on my watch. You have to take it off your wrist and let it reach steady state (about half an hour) for correct readings. Has this been addressed?
Both Tissot and Suunto have some pretty svelte 3sensors-in-one watches. The Suunto goes as far as to give an alarm before an approaching storm and looks rad. Considering that Suunto also makes GPS, I would move my bets to those guys if you want more bang for your buck.
However, having said that, this baby of mine has been going on steady for 4 years without a change of battery and, together, we have seen a lot of this planet. If only it had a Timer.
