Viliv's S5 MID goes haptic, will move you in March
Viliv has been showing some potential lately with its touchable upcoming products, the clean looking S7 netbook tablet and S5 MID. We received some further information on the latter of those two this morning, most notable being the inclusion of haptic feedback that should make its 4.8-inch, 800 x 480 1024 x 600 screen feel a little more tactile. We also got confirmation that the device will be running Windows XP hidden behind a custom UI overlay that, we presume, will be similar to the one we saw running at CES on the S7. Still no price, but the company is aiming for a March release domestically. Our fingers are tingling with anticipation.

This thing is going to be huge (7" screen), heavy and very expensive. Just as any other Intel powered UMPC and MID.
"4.8-inch", you've confused it with the other MID. So what if it's huge, I group stuff like this:
3.5" and12" For my backpack
I'm not interested in notebooks over 17"
Darn it, : 1) under 3.5" for my pocket 2) under 12" for my shoulder bag 3) under 17" for my backpack
OK, I didn't see Viliv was making a 4.8" version as well. 4.8" can be fine for the pocket, just as long as it is not Intel based. Intel MIDs are larger, heavier and more expensive then ARM based devices.
Is there any way one can configure alarms/alerts in Windows XP such that the device will awake from suspend mode? I'd love to have something like this to replace my aging/decrepit old PDA, but the PIM functions are it's primary duty. Given that this thing won't last a day powered up, the only way it's going to go a full day is in standby, but without alarms it won't be a viable PIM device.
So, what you're asking for is the power settings in a Windows OS to actually work???
Good luck!
Can you get this with linux instead of xp?
So I read somewhere that this thing supports WSVGA but also just WVGA. Any idea why both of these are included? I was thinking maybe they are just separate models, but I wasn't really sure about that. I also read that this supports Bluray HD playback, which doesn't make sense. SAVE ME!!!
I WANT TO VILIV
Will it run Java? Will it tether with laptop?
