awww.. fail for me.. let's try this again...
Because JR.. 17' (foot) Pro's don't exist yet.
//I know what you meant, but it got me thinking... Can you imagine trying to carry that around?
Whats with the small keyboard and all that empty space?
it's not a small keyboard, its a full size keyboard. It's just a HUGE computer seriously, it's ginormous .
How big of a keyboard do you need? It's already plenty big.
The extra space on the sides is for the speakers, of which the 17" has twice as many as the 15".
The latest 15" has great speakers, so I imagine the new 17" will be even nicer.
I am not Ieye
The apple haters will not silence me. No downrank in the world will change the fact that the best phone IN THE WORLD is the iPhone and the best MUSIC PLAYER IN THE WORLD is iPod.
While I have to go by HP laptops instead of macbooks, Macs still are made better than 90% of the crap on the market.
Engadget...You and I both serve the Apple. STAND WITH ME.
Ironically, I like HP lappies. Good hw/build quality. If only they had better sales/support over here in Germany (where am I atm)...
It's just Apple, with its worldwide support and sales, is much much easier to shop for.
HP tech support is hands down far and away the worst I've ever dealt with. ASUS is a close 2nd, but CHRIST, HP...
I am not an apple hater...I plan on buying a 15" MPB for college in a few months. However, I you still need to STFU! No one wants to hear all this crap about how Apple is so amazing and that includes people who love Apple!
A numpad pushes the keyboard over to the left side, making for an off-center and uncomfortable typing experience for many. How many of you have actually used a numpad-laptop?
....or be killed by an exploding iPod...?
The black keys look so fugly!!!
Really? The MBP/MBA keypad is one of the best I've seen, especially when you have it lit up. Makes typing in the dark a hell of a lot easier.
I can only guess they're great for typing and maybe they even look great if lit up, but the white keys looked so much better during at daytime.
They were never white, unless you're talking about the MacBook. The Alu PowerBook and MacBook Pro had aluminium keys.
And I'm not sure about the look of the 17" MBP, but it's not because of the keyboard. The sheer size of the laptop makes everything look wrong.
You mean you prefer the silver-painted-plastic look? I certainly don't. The black keys are finally a material that's in line with the quality aluminium chassis. I mean, come on, *painted* keys? That's just cheap. The other problem with paint is that it comes off, as happened to my 'A' key. Now it's not looking so hot.
Anyway, black keys FTW.
Argh, right, the MBPs hat painted keys, guly indeed. What I had in mind were the white keys on the apple wireless keyboard. Why couldn't they have used those for the new MBPs?
Damn those incompetent wrapper-uppers.

"fancy new sealed battery tech"
I still chuckle at this after b a mac owner told me this was a wonderful "innovation".
Wow, Engadget what a utterly useless piece of journalism (if you even fit into that category)... When it comes out Apple will let you know, won't they? http://www.atomicsub.net
17 inches... and still no numpad. Why so much acreage around the keyboard Apple?
To all you Apple haters;
Apple may charge a premium for their swag but at least they can roll without being pimped by them fuckers MS!
And as far as a commenter pointing out about Apple not meant for REAL work, spare me your juvenile POV.That argument is so fucking tired!!!! You sound like a goddamn fool.
Apple doesn't have $28.1 billion in the bank for making shit. The have that cash b/c they make incredible stuff.
All the pcs on the market are running MS cause they don't have the money and or the desire to generate their own OS. Now Apple will be making their own micro chips. Boo-ya! And I heard whispers of a new proprietary programming language.
Apple is so many steps ahead of MS and their legion of crack hoe licensees its a crime.
Wow, I didn't know Christian Bale was on Engadget.
"I heard whispers of a new proprietary programming language.
Apple is so many steps ahead of MS and their legion of crack hoe licensees its a crime."
@Terry: You're kidding right? Since when was a proprietary programming language something innovative?
PS: Sorry for missing your obvious sarcasm!
PPS: .net ring a bell?
I still have an old 17in 2.16GHZ MBP first generation, i love it, had no problems and use it for around 4 hours a day on average. Does everything i would ever need a laptop to do, including running windows (not that i bother much) . My reasons for not buying the new one arent that i cant afford one, or that i dont want one, just that im so happy with the one i already have. I couldn't care what badge it wears, it works as well as i could reasonably expect it to. OSX isnt perfect, but its by far the best thing out there. For me that is. I also have a 4 year old G4 powerbook that my GF uses, she loves it and wont let me buy her a newer macbook because she likes what she has. No problems in 4 years. couldnt ask for more. Previously i had PC laptops, vaios etc, usually the 17in top of the range desktop replacements, they usualy lasted about 1 frustrating year before they were needing to be reformatted and wiped clean or replaced. The pc's Cost way more in the long run, And they were crap by comparison.
Oh yes, are you sure, you not gona be pimped? Well i hope so. Actually apple is willing the users to pay for a faulty GDU Graphicschip 9600M GT witch has bad bumps, NVIDIA confirmed. Apple doesn't take care to his customers and does not change the faulty GDU to a clean and unfaulty one! And apple makes you pay 3000 euro for a erronious machine:
