Palm Pre landing mid-March?
There's no shortage of disparate and sketchy launch date predictions for the Pre, but here's one with a little bit of meat to it. Boy Genius Report has a purported End Of Life list for Sprint, which lists the projected deaths of various phones, along with the planned replacement, with a bit of overlap in timing to keep things moving along smoothly. The Pre shows up as "target in-stock 3/15," replacing the Palm 755p, which is slated to fizzle out in late May. Similarly, the Palm Treo Pro is slotted for February 15th, replacing the 800w, which lines up with the phone's known launch date. Naturally, we can't vouch for the origination of this list or its accuracy, but it sounds reasonably legit, and it's the best thing we've got on a Pre launch date up until now -- and quite a bit more encouraging than the prospect of waiting until the summer.
Update: Boy Genius Report has updated its post, and says that while the March 15th launch is possible, they "wouldn't bet on it," and see a May or early June launch as more likely.

1) Engrish is good
2) The iPhone didn't do 0-1M in 72 hours...the iPhone 3G did. The original iPhone did it in ~2 1/2 months. Why would the Palm Pre be expected to have the same success as Apple's second iteration? Palm will 'earn' their sales through a great product...not by instructing their minions of mindless sheep to go buy.
Would be this be the USA only or would it be the same date for European networks as well.
Considering this notice is from Sprint, I would assume this is only the US release, although Palm may coincide the international release with the US release.
I don't think Palm even know where Europe is.
shugg sound smart.
shugg, you don't half make me laugh sometimes. So if the Pre ends up selling only 500,000 in the first 72 hours, but over the next 5 years sells 250 million in the US alone, it's not an iPhone killer because those first crucial 72 hours weren't up to scratch? Also, please consider the 1 million in 72 hours is for the iPhone 3G, not the original. So how many of those buyers already had an iPhone? Think before you speak please, saying things are not an iPhone killer if they don't beat the 3Gs sales records is preposterous. Normal people like to look at products over their lifetime.
Now the Apple lawyers are going to have to rush and get the lawsuit ready a couple of months earlier. They will legal-smack the Palm Pre like Perry Mason used to legal-smack Hamilton Burger. The Palm Pre might arrive on the scene with only half a UI. Down with the intellectual property thieves. Cease and desist from those iPhone-only gestures. Justice must be served.
I don't think it'll get to Australia till late this year "if we're lucky", still biding my time hoping my >2yo K800i lasts till it's release
As for an Apple v Palm lawsuit.... you clearly didn't read the brilliant artical engadget put together RE: paitents that both sides had to "counter" each other if a lawsuit was bought forward by either party.
Great, thanks a lot Palm. Now I have to buy your dammed phone two months earlier than I expected!
You'll rue the day you released a product within a reasonable date of its announcement!!!
What they're gonna rue the most is not setting and announcing some date (any date, for that matter) right around CES. Honestly, when is this thing going to come out?
I need to know so I can start camping outside the Sprint store...
I guess the great thing is that now it seems my massive case of blue balls can be assuaged sooner than I thought! Thanks Palm!!
Purty please ... my POS Motorola Q has been chucked at the wall/floor/desk out of anger far too many times to last until the Summer.
Perhaps you should invest in anger management rather than a new phone.
Anger management wouldn't be a problem if I had a phone that didn't:
1) freeze up when disconnecting from the USB cable while charging in order to answer the phone.
2) periodically reboot for no good reason
3) pickup more of the background noise than what's being spoken into the mouthpiece
4) chew through a battery in a day even when the phone is hardly used
5) actually connect to the mini USB plug to charge every time it's plugged in
These are all the qualities my current Motorola Q boasts (2nd unit, as the first one fried itself two weeks after I bought it). It's a garbage phone, and I welcome its replacement.
Problems 1-5 could be caused by repeated chucking at the wall/floor/desk.
Technological devices have a history of not liking people named Dave.
Is this the same Pre that is "always-connected" but which has no secured backbone? It's purty.
Designed with 'borrowed' design elements by the same visionary genius who brought you the Handsring Treo90, Mr Shillman (errrr, I mean Skillman)?
Awesome, right on target for when then contract linked to my 755p expires. Unfortunately, not right on target for when I'll have money.
Speaking of money woes, how much is this thing going to cost?
Right. My contract ends in May with my 755p. Looking forward to that upgrade.
@Julio, this phone, as good as it seems to be, cannot cost a penny more than $249.99 w/contract. If it wants to be serious competition to the iPhone, that is. That said, this WILL be my next phone regardless of pricing.
Good idea for them to launch it before the next gen iPhone which is slated for June. My 2 cents......
If that next gen iPhone is going to be a Nano, the Pre will have nothing to worry about.
Damn my unemployed status. I think Engadget should hire me to do an unboxing. Say, for the price of a Palm Pre?
i don't usually jump in these things but umm,
@backbeat: STFU! using big words (barely correctly) and terribly ridiculous sentence structure doesn't make you look smart, it makes you look like a pretentious bag of douche juice.

is this really the first time you see it? mahgod man where have ya been?
@backbeat:
You made basically the same comment on Engadget Mobile, Boy Genius and now here.
Troll much?
The truth doesn't change to meet with your agenda. A pay grade higher than yours would be necessary to properly address that, Bunky.

Um, what?
^The English-to-Idiot translation is roughly, "Fuck you and your agenda back to the cave from which you slithered".
Something may be slightly lost in translation, however. ;)

So...what's my agenda? What's yours?
Please use small words so nothing is lost in translation.
Self-evident, as is your self-righteous indignation and apologia where all-things-Palm is concerned.
'Nuf said.

True in your case, given your Sprint-soaked panties. Rationalism be damned!
Idiot.
If only it wasn't with crappy Sprint, I'd be all over it.
I switched to Sprint from Verizon when the Instinct came out. I have been loving Sprint and can't understand why they get such flack.
I agree. Sprint is so crappy that they have a larger 3G network than AT&T... wait, let me try again
Sprint is so crappy that their customer service sucks... shit, I messed up again. They already fired their largest call center that had the most complaints and upped their quality.
Hmm.... Sprint is sooo crappy, that I lose my signal... I can't even finish that; they have a huge network that can even roam on Verizon's.
Well... I'm lost. What's the answer?
Yeah, 'cause you really don't need the best 3G network when you have a phone that uses a lot of cloud services.
@ Kris - Nicely player sir, nicely played. (I agree)
Not to mention.... I DARE you to compare pricing are any similar plans between VZW ATT TMo and Sprint. Sprint will win EVERY time. And not just by cents, by many many dollars.
Sprint's Customer service is up and down, but who cares???? How often do you need to call them when they have great service and the cheapest prices???
There is nothing wrong with Sprint and Pre should be great reason to get with Sprint. I am on the $70 plan with 450 minutes, nights at 7pm, and unlimited everything - data, messaging, navigation, etc. I save at least $20/mo compared to the "better" carriers
i get a better discount this december but man i really want this phone...
Wow, now I have to actually step foot in a Sprint store to check it out.
Havent been in a Sprint PCS store since oh.... 2002 maybe?
Best Buy will also sell the Pre, if that helps.
I'm excited! I will happily trade up from my 700p to the Pre. Before that, had a 600... All with Sprint...
Sorry Apple, I use your computers, but looks like i'm holding off on the iPhone.
Just give me the phone, NOW!
Apple's lawsuit wont delay the phone at all?
What lawsuit?
