Palm Pre landing mid-March?
There's no shortage of disparate and sketchy launch date predictions for the Pre, but here's one with a little bit of meat to it. Boy Genius Report has a purported End Of Life list for Sprint, which lists the projected deaths of various phones, along with the planned replacement, with a bit of overlap in timing to keep things moving along smoothly. The Pre shows up as "target in-stock 3/15," replacing the Palm 755p, which is slated to fizzle out in late May. Similarly, the Palm Treo Pro is slotted for February 15th, replacing the 800w, which lines up with the phone's known launch date. Naturally, we can't vouch for the origination of this list or its accuracy, but it sounds reasonably legit, and it's the best thing we've got on a Pre launch date up until now -- and quite a bit more encouraging than the prospect of waiting until the summer.
Update: Boy Genius Report has updated its post, and says that while the March 15th launch is possible, they "wouldn't bet on it," and see a May or early June launch as more likely.

What lawsuit? All I've seen is posture on both sides, nothing solidly saying there's a lawsuit coming, or any lawsuits filed
Didn't you read the iPhone/Palm patent article which explained that Apple are abusing loads of Palm's patents in their iPhone.
Obviously no lawsuit has been announced it's what is generally called "publicity"
Hey 'Major4Play', who do you think you're jackin' off with that lie? The Palm/Apple patent issue is nothing more than He Said/She Said at this point with possibilities of issues on both party's IP. Don't like those facts? Tough shit. You haven't the right to create your own.
@ backbeat
You're kind of a douchebag, dude. Maybe you should calm yourself down.
I'll let you know when I give a shit about your opinion, Skippy.
Truth's a bitch.

Well, more solid than the 2/15 rumors which were probably just sprint/palm grunts mistaking pre for pro . . .
May or Early june? Good. That gives enough time for Android developers to write a Synergy/Cards/Universal Search application.
Too late, I'd say.
wow this backbeat is kind of an asshole is he not? what the fuck crawled up his ass? what a prick
^@Kevin-In-Drag:
Fuck you.
:)
There won't be a lawsuit.
Seriously? No one yet? Aw, hell. Fine, I'll do it. Ahem...
iPhone FTW, all will bow to the neatly trimmed butt-hair of Jobs. Palm sucks various unpleasant things, and will never do anything to damage the omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent meta-juggernaut that is the iPhone!!!!!!
Lord, I come here to down-rate the trolls, and that's pretty much it. The lack of people shitting on the Pre before its release makes me sad in a sadistic way.
I honestly do believe March 15th will be a significant date. Maybe the day pre-orders open up.
*facepalm*
I really wish is was named something other than "Pre," it'd prevent unintended puns
This strikes me as uneasily close to the time apple will announce their supposed "2.1" succesor to the iPhone 3G. The Pre is a cool phone with a nice OS that seems to on track to be a great business phone. But don't count Apple out on that front, they've been working on something in Cupertino, that's for sure.
If by "uneasily close" you mean a quarter of a year separate, well, that may seem close, but it's better than launching at or after the next iPhone
Also, I thought Apple said they didn't want an iPhone Nano...
Heres the thing, most people forget that the 3rd Gen iphone went into pre-production right after the 2nd Gen was released. I've also read reports which say many people are speculating too much, that we keep reading about an 'alleged' duo-core CPU which is likely to NOT be in the next iphone, a duo-core would be a huge battery drain. There wasn't that much of a difference between the 1st and 2nd iphones, it is likely there won't be that much of a difference between the 2nd and 3rd either. Unfortunately Apple seems to be focusing more on the gaming side of the iphone as opposed to the type of functionality available in Winmo and Blackberry devices, now the iphone is being compared to portable gaming devices. Apple was completely blinded by the Palm Pre, not only does the Pre have similar capabilities as an iphone it exceeds them. The Pre has the functionality of Winmo and Blacberry devices as well.
Wow, I didn't realize that if you properly format the sarcasm tag, that is with < in font of it and behind, that the sarc tag doesn't show in the comments. How foolish of me.
Hey iPhone. Beware the ides of March. j/k, but not really...
Damn you, that's just what I was going to say, haha.
If the Palm Pre really arrives by March, Apple's better watch its back!
Hey mods...
there something wrong with this comment but i cant quite figure it out/// :P

Irony FTW
Palm needs to get this phone out and into the marketplace before the next iPhone arrives - which could be by June, or earlier. The Pre can do a few things that the current iPhone cannot (like multitasking, copy & paste, shoot video, take front-side pics, etc), but the next iPhone is rumoured to address a few of these deficiencies.
Beware the Ides of March
I won't be getting the Pre but I can't wait to see how this phone performs in the real world. I traded in my Treo 650 for an HTC Diamond a few months back so I'm set for a while. The Treo 650 served me well for 3 years but like most people I gave up waiting for Palm to come up with a worthwhile upgrade to the 650. If the Pre is a success I may end up going back to Palm but no way am I giving up my Sprint phone plan. $39 mo. after taxes for 450 minutes, Unlimited everything including Text, Data, GPS, phone as modem, etc. and I don't even have a special Sero plan.
To my understanding you can keep your current plan as long as you have unlimited Data. The Instinct is the only Sprint phone that needs a specific plan, why?... I do not know!
The SDK isn't even out yet, and the Pre is out in 5 weeks?
AH! I need Mojo!!
I hope it comes out then. I'm really wanting to trade in my HTC Touch! I'm tired of WM6 hickups....
All you guys salivating to get in line on Mar 14th - do you really want something that just last month was so unpolished that they didn't event allow unsupervised interactions. In two months time it will be production ready?
In my opinion, a June release will end up being Storm 2.0. A more realistic release time is more likely back to school 09.
As a former Sprint HQ employee, I'd be extremely surprised, but pleasantly so, if this drops in mid-March. While the phone looked great at CES, there were some areas Palm has some tweaking to do, not to mention Palm said they were still evaluating adding Flash support. That could come later, but they really need that out of the gate. The iPhone was a very simple marketing message...thin, cool device with no buttons, easy for any moron to navigate and throw the Apple brand out there to get all the cows to come home. Same thing with the Storm..."Hey, we've got a touchscreen too...and it clicks". The Pre is an entirely different animal...how do you advertise all the little things this device does so well from Synergy to multitasking to the spotlight-like search, etc.? If the Pre is truly launching in March, Sprint missed a HUGE marketing opportunity with their Superbowl ads. If nothing else they should've run the ad Palm has on their website.
Also, another item at note...look at all the devices being EOL'd without replacements..the centro, the diamond, the pearl. Perhaps Sprint is betting big on the Pre that it'll be the lions share of smart devices? The diamond being EOL'd in July seems odd...a very short run given the rumors VZW might still be launching it.
But, as far as I'm concerned, I just want it to launch ASAP.
I am effing excited about this phone. Palm would be very smart to release the GSM version of this phone around the same time the CDMA/Sprint version comes out. I don't need it to be subsidized, I just need the phone!
BRING ON THE PRE.
Rumor has it that the 3/15 Palm Pre release date is only for Sprint's new "Premiere" customers.
without Apple iPhone was Palm nothing, look other phones from Palm and you go must puke !!
Fanboy alert
WOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO /siren
^Reverse-fanboi alert!
This thing is never coming out.
CNET is giving 2/15 as the release date for the Pre [http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10156568-1.html?tag=TOCmoreStories.0], well we'll confirm in two short weeks, won't we?
Should we beware that it is supposed to come out on the ides of march?
LOL is funny though, hadn't thought of that one.
I thought it was a good pre-conceived idea
wow.,cant wait to get $350 palm. In this economy it will take a while to go from zero to 1 million.maybe like 8 months.
I enjoy working for Sprint. I know when the Pre is going to be released, and I know that the Treo Pro is going to be delayed from it's 2/15 release date, with the REAL date TBD. Sorry kids. :D
Any word on when the Verizon Wireless Bridge and Iron Works will release this beauty?
Although, having been burned badly by Palm on the 650 and 700p that I'm somewhat dubious of another Palm platform...
