WiiGator currently works very well at loading GameCube ISOs off DVD-Rs.
Two cautions, though:
1) Read speed is limited to 3x, so games will load significantly slower than retail games 2) The Wii cannot read DVD+R unless you set the book-type to DVD-ROM when you burn it. This requires hacked firmwares for some DVD burners (I required one for my laptops' burner), and some sort of program to change the bit setting (Nero can do some, I needed a commandline Linux app being a Linux user).
Other than that, it works great. I'd rather be able to load ISOs off an SD card, but meh, it works.
Now, being able to load gamecube games will be nice :)
