Samsung Memoir officially brings 8 megapixels to T-Mobile
At some point, T-Mobile decided it wanted to play in the megapixel big leagues by rolling out the Motorola ZN5 and Samsung Behold, but why stop at a measly little 5 megapixels? The long-rumored t929 Memoir from Samsung has now been officially announced for T-Mobile USA's funky 3G bands, featuring a full touchscreen, TouchWiz user interface, integrated AGPS, full HTML browser, and -- of course -- that glorious 8 megapixel sensor with xenon flash. No word on pricing or availability just yet, but we're told we can expect it some time this month.

Definitely a great gadget for the non smartphone loving crowd.
Glad to see T-Mobile really step up their game. Rumor has it that 2009 will be the year that T-Mobile USA will really push high end phones (dumb and smart variety) and very aggressively expand their 3G network.
Their new CEO is very technology driven whereas the old one was more value driven. Hopefully he can bring balance between the 2 in light of this economy.
Their CTO claims that they will have a 3G network as competitively comparable with VZW by years end from a POPS standpoint (obviously not geographic).
Bring it on. Can't wait to test this device. I just ported my number from AT&T 2 months ago and I must say that at least here in the Hollywood, CA. area T-Mobile has a very decent network and call quality is much better than I used to have.
Non smartphone?
Besides the 8mpx camera with loads of functions and the excellent digiframe program you find in all top tier samsungs this baby will sport A-Gps, wifi, 3,5G connections, opera , win 6.1 , google maps and all features you get in the excellent Samsung Omnia (minus the Omnia's genial minimouse).
Some people call a smartphone even the iPhone , what do you want a phone to do before you call it smart?
Do your kid homework?
@KilgoreTrout
It's not going to have WiFi or Windows Mobile.
It's dumb. Like you.
@Rollins
Maybe in some market Samsung decided to lower the specs of this phone just like it has changed its name.
It's not surprising, since by the standard of your comment to offer anything more than the dumbest phone to a worthless turd like you or your kin it would be like throwing the proverbial pearls to the pigs.
You can just admit that you're not quite as literate as the rest of us, it's okay.
Mentally handicapped people have led very accomplished lives in the past and I'm sure that, with a little patience, you can too.
Very well put Alex kudos to you. I am also excited that T-mobile USA is beginning to get the ball rolling in their court, I am a customer in NY and i really would like a new phone but the G1 i don't want it and do at the same time. They need a really appealing 3G phone i don't think this will be so amazing but who knows... 3G is a plus but i think the camera side of it will be dominant and the phone will lack in other areas that is just what i see. I really hope that this phone was made well and to surpass my expectations.
I'm not going to lie, Tmobile USA has really impressed me as of late. In a weird way, it actually makes you want to join them. This whole time they have kept their cards up their sleeves and now it is truly amazing. VZW and ATT battle it out with each other so much, along with Sprint trying to keep it's flock, the little magenta that was, now is proving itself to play with the big boys!
Can anyone confirm this 8MP phone equiped with conversation-recorder?. My memory isnot like a 5 yrs old kid so for "taking notes without pen" this option is what I'm looking for. Unfortunally, most of the spec. or phones seem to ignore this option.
all win mobile 6.1 have this option.
On the "notes" program just check the recording option.
@ Tomy
I'm sure like almost every other phone that came out in the past 5 years, it will have a voice recorder.
@ KilgoreTrout
Unfortunately, this doesn't run WinMo. Nice try.
Derek, Kilgore,
It'snot the "voice recorder" (To recorder your own voice as a memo/notes)
it's the "conversation recorder" where only during talking with other party, there's an option "REC" pop up on screen that if you press it, it will recorder BOTH your voice and the other party voice.
I know some SonyEricson phones (ie. W810i) has this feature and best of all, it will balancing out the volume level on both ways when recording. Unfortunally, SonyEricson doesnt make many touchscreen phones beside Xperia X1 which's overpriced. (iPhone has this option as an "add on" software, nice, but I hate ATT for drop call, I'm currently an ATT customer with no contract)
lol, 8 MP cam? it must take 8 hrs to send one pic mail!
THey will condense it before sending it over the air so it would not take that long as Opposed to just uploading it on your Computer or say Facebook or Myspace where the Quality would not be and will be full quality.
Way to GO T-Mobile, your New CEO is REALLY doing a Great Job and this is ONly the Beginning, its very Exciting to be a T-Mobile Customer these recent days.
Bring on the Wing II!!!! Tho I wish they would Port Android onto it Instead of Crappy Windows Mobile(yuck).
Thanks for clarifying, though does it happen with all pic mail no matter what? It'd be nice to have the option (no matter how long it might take to upload).
On most phone's I've had there wasn't really an Option, it would just be the only choice is to Condense for over the air pic mail to friends. I really would Love the Option myself as Well really, that's a Great idea!!!
Are you carriers Listening?!!!
lol, 8MP?!? it must take 8 hrs to send one pic mail!
Fail.
Like my Sony Ericsson C905, I'm sure it will give you the option to resize before sending. And probably will automatically resize if you're sending to a phone but prompt to resize if you're sending it to an e-mail.
Hope you guys like em big. She's a fatty. 8 MP will do that to you.
Actually is not the phone, it's the operator that (automatically) ask you the permission to resize the pic or the vid before sending it if you are not in an area with a fast connection.
At least that is what my operator (3.dk) does.
Nope it is the phone. SUck it kilgore at least you didnt say it runs WinMo.
@Nathan
No Nathan , it is the operator .
My operator asks me to do it and even offers me the choice of three different smaller sizes.
My collegue has the very same HTC touch HD as I have but another operator and guess what? I can't do it.
So just Keep on swallowing.
great 8mp, non smart phone....yawn I need a smart phone and multitasking for this to make the cut.
Bravo, T-Mobile! Now start selling Sharp phones again to really get the customers coming. 8MP is all well and good, but it would be better to have a CCD sensor.
so its basically the LG viewty but with 8 megapixels instead of 5 but no manual focus and no fancy schneider krueznach lens and no 120fps video? it even has the vibrating touchscreen and looks almost EXACTLY like the viewty.. just a few years too late....way to come up with "new" ideas samsung...
