Thanko rolls out HDD Media Player 2, hard drive not included

It's not quite as whimsical as some of Thanko's other gadgets, but those looking for a barebones media player may actually want to consider the company's new HDD Media Player 2, which looks like it should get the job done and do so on the cheap. Naturally, you'll have to supply your own hard drive, but the enclosure will handle most of the media-playing abilities you'll likely want (including DivX and even DVD VOB file playback), and you'll get a decent enough complement of ports, including VGA, component, composite, s-video, and an optical digital audio output. Look for this one to set you back just over $70 -- plus the necessary shipping charges from Japan, of course.

im not saying it is, might be an older model, but looks like this

Apart from the fact they dont look similar.
im sorry, the styling on it is VERY similar, not the same by any means but similar
Yeh, you are right, they look almost the same.
Thanko for nothing.
Looks like my 6 year old mediagate
Used Xboxes (original) are like, $40 at Gamestop. I'd wager XBMC is a much better media server than this thing.
But only if it'd play HD content which it doesn't.
Digital Audio out!!! Other manufacturers, please take note.
Hmm, this is the company that I bought USB warmer gloves from, which were broken out of the box (one hand didn't warm up past luke-warm, other one felt like it was on fire), and they never returned my e-mail asking what they would do about it.
For an extra $20-30, I think the western digital media player is a better option with hdmi support.
A better option only when they manage to get those bugs (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=15718648&postcount=330) fixed with a new firmware update.
True, the WDTV also has full MKV container and H.264 support at resolutions up to 1920x1080..
Hopefully they do fix those bugs though.
Nasty silver buttons and logo font do not exactly scream quality.
Excellent!
I have a Korean version, Mediagate. I have all my kids' movies on it.. no move broken DVD's. It also doubles as a portable hard drive, which makes it perfect to take on trips...play your movie collection on a laptop in the car or in your hotel room (instead of a $9 PPV).
I dont think it is the newest HDD Media Player 2, it just like a 5-6 years old demoded machine as its bad design. But it seems that its very powerful for playing the media and music.

I wonder what's new about this. I bought one of those last October from eBay, cost me $35 including shipping. Add a HDD and voila, you have a portable hard drive which also doubles as a DivX, Xvid, DVD VOB, MP3 etc player, includes a remote, supports all sorts of outputs and so on. Not the greatest of designs or most intuitive of menu systems, but for $35 it is one heck of a deal. But I still fail to see what's new about it?
Too old too catch the world
.......
I recommend this one, it support MKV RMVB and other format with HDMI Ouput
