At last, after seeing it
unboxed and fiddled with on camera last week, we've got out first in-depth review of the 10.1-inch Acer
Aspire One D150, courtesy of
Laptop. How does the Intel Atom N270-based machine fare? Excellent for its $350 price tag, although the keyboard and touchpad don't compare favorably with the pricier
Eee PC 1000HE or
Samsung NC10. As for battery life, the 5800mAh-rated 6-cell had a very impressive 7 hour and 57 minute runtime, which is 49 minutes longer than the 1000HE and 38 minutes over HP's
Mini 2140. Of course, seeing as most consumers will end up with the
4400mAh batteries, a more likely estimate is 5 hours per charge. Additionally, the site had a Q&A session with Acer VP of Product Marketing Sumit Agnihotry, who said that
$100 Aspire One with AT&T 3G deal is "only the beginning" and they're developing a plan to offer discounted laptops with an hourly-use program. There's also talk of incorporating NVIDIA's Ion platform into future computers. Hit up the read links below for the full review and more deets from Agnihotry.

"discounted laptops with an hourly-use program."
WTF is that supposed to mean???
I'd probably take one, someone will hack it and it will be pretty much free.
why in the world, would a person in their right mind, subscribe to a hourly use laptop, unless the laptop was free and came with a 100 dollar rebate and free trial for three months?
wait. that sounds awesome. i'll take two
The hourly use program would be for internet access, not the actual laptop, you idiots.
What does that mean, "to play us out??"
Pay-as-you-go 3G internet access, as opposed to a 2 year contract and a monthly fee.
AT&T is da devil! (...so is comcast)
i really want one
So comes the beginning of subscription-based computers...
Its not a bad deal.
A free computer with pay-for-play 3G internet access.
There are people paying outrageous prices for 3G service for cellular phones :-(
If you need a laptop and need access to the internet beyond WiFi this makes perfect sense.
Of course, I'd perfer it if the laptops being sold were at least the size of my Lenovo X60, but, for some netbooks work fine too.
Netbooks at this stage seem so purposely limited that it is annoying when you look at its specs and use one.
With the ion platform it might be a jump out.
You haven't seen the 1000he then?
I almost preordered the d150 but the 1000he blows that away. 7 hours battery, chicklet keyboard gives it a more rigid body
both are fantastic netbooks but I'm going to have to side with Asus over Acer this time.
Hum. Wake me when they release a version with the 280 Atom and G40 chipset.
Then sleep tight
IMO Asus's build is better than Acer's, which is kinda important with such a small portable system.
Also, I have a feeling that the new tablet eees are going to change the netbook game again.
So I don't think the EeePC is going to die anytime soon, no matter how much Acer fanboys (?!?!) want it.
What's with it having WMP 10?
After doing a good comparison between the Asus EEE 1000H, HP Mini 1000, MSI Wind ... and after seeing the "original" 8.9" Acer Aspire One ... I have to say - even with the larger display and battery of this new Acer ... I'd rather have the MSI or Asus. Matte display >>>> glossy ANY day. Even with the better design from the HP; the Asus seemed to be very well built and have a good keyboard; given it's real small size.
I'm really considering picking one of these up very soon, especially given their small size. With all that being said the HP Mini is real pretty.... too bad it's pretty expensive given what you get.
You're babbling, just so you know. ;)
Seriously, mattglossy is the one point were people are just not gonna agree. You say "tomeito", I say "tomahto" thing.
The bright, high contrast glossy screen on my Aspire One is great!
acer's build quality is horrible.
imo i would go with the 1000HE. but about these two, do the batteries stick out at all on the 100HE or D150, or are the flush with the body?
According to the previous hands-on video, that 6-cell battery on AAO D150 seems to stick out of the body, somewhat similar to the 6-cell battery that comes with Lenovo IdeaPad S10e.
When is t-mobile going to get some of the netbook love.
I was going to buy one of the first ones, I'm glad I held out. I believe this if my favorite netbook.
