While we've gotta wait until Barcelona to see Samsung's
Ultra Touch S8300 slider for ourselves, a handful of outlets have already played around with a preview unit, complete with the
TouchWiz UI makeover. It's not the slimmest of touch phones, measuring 110 x 51.5 x 12.7 mm, but props are given to the 8 megapixel camera and OLED touchscreen, unsurprisingly, as well as the simple drag-and-drop widget menu and three separate home screens for micro-app organization. Other than some of the icon graphics and the aforementioned menu updates, the UI is largely unchanged from its previous form. The lack of WiFi is gonna ruffle a few feathers, but the HSDPA will probably assuage some of that pain. Hit up the read links for impressions and video -- with any luck, we'll be getting our own hands-on time at next week's Mobile World Congress.

any word if samsung will make the updated touchwiz available for download to devices like the tocco, behold, eternity, omnia, etc?
Obviously you can upgrade your version of touch wiz to the newest version if you have enough memory left.
Just after Xmas a few (mostly useless) extra widgets became available for touch wiz and I duly downloaded them and installed on my Omnia ( the only 2 I found useful are the wheather and the stock tracker) .
These , the old, and surely the future versions and upgrades of touch wiz,
(even if Sammy would not make them available to your country/language) you'll find them anyway in the dedicated Omnia forums that abound on the interweb (check out Mo.Da.Co for exemple)
There is actually a pretty slick copycat UI for any WinMo device:

By ruffling some feathers, you mean it's 2009 and there's all the OLED and updated UI but no wifi radio? Samsung is really upping the ant these days with new phones and announcements....
It is like they're competing for a spot in the 'most shipped smartphones'
12.7 mm??? I mean nice form factor, nice UI, great camera, super-delicious OLED.... but 12.7 mm???
That's 30% thicker than the already thick 5" Android MID/Smartphone from Archos.
Like you would really notice that extra 3mm?
What the hell was I saying... my E65 slider is 15.5 mm and I don't think it's thick at all. That Samsung slider is quite impressive.
Ok, it's like the dug this phone up the dust just to come forward and have something to demo on MWC...jeez that phone looks like my SE K610i but with a 'grand-slammed' OLED screen
Err how is your k610 even related? This is a slider...
What no wifi, samsung always has to leave something out.
That UI is a disaster. Lord have mercy.
Also, 12.7mm ain't that thick. An N71 is just under 10.
Isnt the iPhone 12.8 mm? So now the iPhone, lacking a sliding keyboard, is actually extra fat?
I have a i910 omnia and there hasnt even been one single update from verizon or samsung for it other than leaked info. I really hope this upgrade will work for it.
I heard it doesn't have a 3.5mm audio jack? What? Is it true? No Wi-fi?!?!
*sigh*
And just when I thought I could replace my very old Nokia N70.

The TouchWiz UI looks great, but why the hell is this a slider phone?
i really really need this phone! Samsung, you rule!!
???
im keeping my fingers crossed thats its on ALL touch wiz phones, including the tocco. and guys, im pretty sure that the same firmware wont work on all touch wiz phones because the hardware is different for all of them.
Wolverine, im just like u.....Lets pay close attention to when it becomes available @ http://www.puremobile.com/Samsung/Samsung-S8300-UltraTOUCH-Silky-Black-GSM-Phone/!!!!!
The Instinct desperately needs the TouchWiz UI. Samsung should backport it to the Instinct or make Android for Instinct users. The Instinct could be so much better if Samsung or Sprint did some additional work to eliminate some of the minor issues.
