Samsung's TouchWiz UI getting a MWC makeover

With Mobile World Congress around the corner, Samsung is prepped to launch the latest version of its increasingly impressive, finger-friendly TouchWiz UI. Already spotted on the Ultra Touch S8300 slider, the interface has been fitted with new 3D-effects eye candy, enhanced haptic feedback, and new gesture and voice controls. A new widget dock allows you to more easily manage an increased variety of downloadable widgets while Samsung's new Photo Contact feature provides better integration of your photos and contacts with what appears to be face recognition technology. We'll know more after getting our hands on with the UI at WMC next week -- an event that's shaping up to be the biggest cellphone show in years.

Looks neat!
Going in the right direction I'd say.
As a smartphone user, I'm sure i would only have to make a few button presses to hit a limitation, but with the features of the tocco ultra - and the built in functionality of this UI, surely this will service 95% of the mobile buying public's needs. I know alot of people who were missold smart phones because the UK contract and subsidy system skewed the value of s60 phones (they just wanted the "best phone"). Something like this would be perfect for them
Looks nice. I hope they make it portable to the Omnia. Mind you, even if they don't some nice chap at XDA is bound to.
Indeed:

Yeah, I'd like to play with this on a touch pro..
Wait wait wait...
... so will they be updating the shitty UI on the Behold?
Anyone else creeped out by the lady in the middle?
No?
it seems like there is way too much going on in that home screen, very busy
And once you delete that [left] verticle side bar slot machine, performs like a normal wimo device.
Took me couple hours hunting down a kill fix [xda-developers], but alls well now.
Once you've tweaked the home screen.....works faboulas !!!!!!!!!
There gonna need to do some seriouse work to get this good. I mean it will be to much like before, to much limitation on what you can put as widgets and to much limited functions of the widgets. I mean whats the point in having a text widget if it cant be used as a quick read and reply box on the home screen. Adding an explorer type window option would be good alowing you minimise to kinda do the quick reply if not the feature itself. Little things like that would make these types of GUI's good.
great, theyll make this bloatware, even more bloated.
ive been following samsung omnia's firmware upgrade for months, i stopped when i noticed that my available memory keeps getting smaller every firmware upgrade because this bloatware is being "developed".
If you have say, a Samsung Eternity, how do you go about updating the firmware? Do you have to go to a website on the phone, or is there an option in "settings", somewhere?
If the Eternity gets updated, it will probably be via AT&T, if they decide to do it. I would guess in the settings menu there is a software update option. Right now the option is grayed out. Or it could come in an update on AT&T support pages, or Samsung... maybe even via the PC Suite software
I simply refuse to touch wiz. Gross.
Lots of widgets can work great when you have a huge screen, but not on a cellphone screen. It's just too busy. "More trinkets than a pensioner's mantlepiece."
I got this phone and it's nice!
