Sprint Treo Pro getting delayed into a bleak, uncertain future?
Last we'd heard, that aborted Treo Pro launch on Sprint had been pushed back to mid-February, but according to some fresh dealer docs floating around, that launch is now "TBD" -- and more often than not, we find that "TBD" actually stands for "too little, too late." In the face of the impending Pre launch, it seems like it's getting harder by the second to justify sinking any significant marketing revenue into making folks aware of the Treo Pro's existence -- and while we totally buy Sprint's statement that it's the testing process holding up retail availability, we're wondering who's going to come rushing with cash (or plastic) in hand when this sucker is sitting next to its webOS-powered sib a few months down the road. Anyone?

No one, it seems...
are you sure you're not iEye?
i would :(
I wouldn't :)
He is iEye. You can tell by certain words he uses.
Down your comment goes
even before the iphone, when has anyone come running for yet another generic winmo phone?
I think you have to look at the Sprint Treo Pro for what it is, a great Windows Mobile device for business users. Its supposed to replace the 800w, which had some issues. Looking at it as anything more is just wrong.
Agreed. You know there are actually people who need to run specific applications for very specific purposes on these things. I'm not getting android, or the pre, or an iphone because I need a device that runs a .NET CF application that only WM can run.
Sure it would be 'cool' to have nifty flashy animations and such, but its a very powerful device that does everything I need like Remote Desktop, tethering, terminal services etc.
Very good point. What could also be happening here is that Sprint had to enter into a certain arrangement with Palm to market the Pro in order for Sprint to have the exclusive for the Pre. By announcing the Pre and all of its newness, Palm effectively made itself a one-device company. Sprint had to recognize that, but felt that whatever they might lose on the Pro, they could more than make up for with the Pre.
You're right, but wrong I'm afraid. The Pre has features the iPhone could only dream of having... Don't let me put out a list to show your ignorance...
As a SERO user, I see the Treo Pro as a great option. Not being willing to give up my sub-$30/mo after taxes and discount plan means I'm probably not going to be allowed to get a Pre. The Treo Pro on the other hand, shouldn't be an issue, and seems like a decent WinMo phone. I especially like that they've finally lost some of the Treo bar of soap shape, and actually slimmed it down a bit.
Ever since I learned about the Pre, that's pretty much the only thing I care about when it comes to Palm. As soon as I see "Palm" in a headline I start looking for "Pre" and if I don't see it I don't bother reading the story. I'm still following android news, and RIM's blackberries and stuff, but when it comes to Palm, give me Pre or give me nothing!
And yet you still bothered replying to this without reading the story??
I'd rather have a fully baked product. Maybe that's why the did the mini-releases to the public? Founds some errors maybe they have. Fix them they must.
thank god youre not important at all right?
I can not see any reason to release the Pro at this point, at least not before the Pre. I was one of those that was leaning towards picking up the Pro, that was until the Pre burst onto the scene. If the Pre has the functions of WinMo and Blackberry what would be the point of a business user picking up the Pro? Several clients and colleagues of mine were going to pickup the Pro, since the Pre was introduced they want to try out it. They will not be getting the Pro even if it is a reasonable price. I believe Sprint was intending on launching the Pro as scheduled at the end of Jan, I do not think Sprint expected this much buzz about the Pre. Sprint may have made a decision to skip the launch of the Pro until after the Pre. If (a huge "IF") the Pre does not do well Sprint can still launch the Pro, by all indications the Pro is a pretty good device.
I can only hope this means they're going to move up the launch of the pre and that it won't get the same delay.
I'm finding myself checking this site more often than usual and solely for Pre updates....I really hope those May/June reports are incorrect. I can't wait that long!!!
I WILL get this the first day it's available...even if I have to make my wife stand in line all day.
Rats...I was looking to get this for one of our managers who needs exchange push email and needs a keyboard, but would destroy the touch pro.
While it is disappointing to hear that Palm seems to have killed off one of the better opportunities to market what easily could be their best WM Phone yet, I have to admit that I am VERY glad that Sprint did not get their hands on the Pro. Why Palm seems to be giving their newest phones out to Sprint and not ATT I do not understand. I love the Treos and don't plan on getting anything else for the time being, so I was quite upset to find the 750 was discontinued and then the 800 was handed over to Sprint. ATT has no pda phones worth replace the 750 with, but having the Pro with ATT would be a very good idea. Not to mention it would save many people money getting that one instead of the unlocked version at full MSRP.
