Canon's CES 2009 VIXIA camcorder lineup gets priced and dated
Like most everyone else at CES, Canon failed to disclose pricing and availability for its 11 new VIXIA camcorders. Now, however, CamcorderInfo has the details you've been craving, and the good news is that most of the models should be on store shelves before April draws to a close. The flagship HF S10 will ring up at $1,299 in early March, while the low-end ZR960 will sport a $249.99 sticker and an early April ship date. For everything in between, give the read link a look.

I think prices of those HD camcorders are still way too high. I was
expecting them to drop to around $500
I think you'll find plenty of older model HD camcorders in the price range you're looking for.
So we can expect a price drop on the HF10/HF100?!?!
I hope so!!!
No drop on the HF10 HF100... these models are being replaced entirely.
So if one were to want a HF100, it should be purchased now before stock if gone?
I was very close to purchasing the HF100 but then they announced the new line up featuring 24Mbps AVCHD and a bevy of other features. I'm wondering if it's even worth stepping up to the HF200 now.
My fiscal side says "Get the HF100"
My gadget geek side says "Get the HF200!!!"
Ahhh, the internal conflict :)
I have an HF100 and LOVE it! 17Mb full 1920x1080 HD AVCHD is really nice. I am a little bummed though since I have only owned it for a few months. The HF200 (and HF20) has something like 24Mb full HD! The best feasture of the HF100 for me is the OIS. It is the best I have ever seen EVER. You can also take the SD card out and stick it in a PS3 and play it directly. It acks like a Blu-Ray disc.
I want to hands-on performance tests of the Canon HF S100 vs. the Panny HDC-HS300. The Panny has 3 small CMOS and costs $1400, while the S100 has 1 mid-CMOS and costs $1200. Fight!
i wanna see that too bandigolo. These high spec camcorders sure cost alot. $800 would be more reasonable, $1200+ is just crazy money!
I'm sure $800 +/- $200 is what we'll see when these go on various sales at bargain dealers by mid-summer.
But before people get their panties in a bunch over price, consider what you are getting: a palm-sized digital HD video recording device, and a good one at that. That's a whole lot of technology and convenience. OK, now let's time travel back a few years and recall that prices of camcorders in the 90's and early 2000's.
I'd love to see these at $500 as much as anyone, but I think these market values are justifiable. Shit, some people pay $500+ just for the privilege of PLAYING BACK Blu-ray discs!
Thought about getting the older model if it drops in price... the new 8.59 instead of 3.3 megapixels sounds so beautiful though...
Which is the camcorder pictured in the post?
I think it's the Vixia HF200.
I've been waiting for these....lousy timing for me, personally. I have an upcoming wedding and vacation at the end of this month....I was hoping against the odds that these would get an early release.....oh well.
The Canon HF-11 is available on Amazon for under $800, I use it now and the videos come out amazing like.
Well at least I got it for that price prior to the holiday season, now it looks as though it has increased to $849.00
