Damn the lack of HSDPA!!!!!!!!!!! DAMN THEM!!!!!!!
charlies gonna like this!
"all for $279 with no contracts or related strings attached."
Bravo Nokia. As an E-series owner, this is a prettAAy good deal. I would upgrade from my E65 to it if only I didn't want a Palm Pre or an Android snapdragon phone so much.
true, but you can also get the better spec'd E71 right now for about $300 online, no subsidy, and with US 3G
"Just think -- all that Symbian S60 fun, a full keyboard, 3G connectivity, WiFi"... HEY! It's only EDGE, there's no 3G!
HEY! It's only 3G, there's no HSDPA!
It has UMTS, which is a 3G technology.
Like where? the phone still is not available on nokia.com, and I cant find a single retailer with the NAM available for order....care to list some sites with it?? I want to get one for my wife for vday...
The article says:
Available at Nokia Flagship stores in New York City and Chicago, independent retailers and e-tailers, the Nokia E63 is a great messaging device that's easy on the eyes and the pocketbook.
I can't really afford a 3G plan anyway, but I like QWERTY phones because they're great for texting. That's what I'm currently using my Blackjack 2 for (it doubles as a nifty music player as well with Core Player 4). I think I'll pick this up in about a year or so, when the unlocked price will probably have fallen to ~$100.
I'd probably get it just for the Wifi alone. had an Ipod touch, but Wifi killed battery life. At least with a Nokia, I'll won't have a problem replacing the battery myself.
Why is e71 so much more expensive? What is the difference? I might buy this one instead of new black berry that is coming on t-mobile for $649.99...
If it is that much more expensive, you are shopping at the wrong place. I got my e71-2 on sale for 300 bucks shipped. E71 has HSDPA, GPS, and a stainless steel shell.
Oh, and blackberry sucks compared to this, well, mainly the e71.
Last time I checked it was over $500. where did u buy it???
$500 is what idiots try to sell the phones for on eBay and Craigslist...
Newegg: $339.99 + free shipping
the E63 is a cheap version of the E71, the E71 is better , higher res cam, gps , metal etc, get that instead, check amazon E71-2 is the usa version
I have one question. What's wrong with black?
The black ones tend to be a little larger.
gps is the diff I think
Does anyone know if this phone will work with Verizon? Does the rest of the E series work with Verizon?
haha, hell no.
I was curious about this on verizon too..
Won't work with Verizon. GSM networks only.
@Dave and Evan
Verizon uses CDMA, this is a GSM phone, it's going to be usable in the US on pretty much just AT&T or TMobile. So unless a CDMA version is made and Verizon picks it up, it won't work with Verizon.
Yet another reason why Verizon sucks. Great service, terrible phones
Is that really a deal if you can get the E71 from Amazon for 333 right now?
I don't think the $279 is necessarily a deal, but once retailers like amazon have it and are pricing it in the low $200's it will be a bargain.. if only the e71 didn't have that 2.5mm jack.
E71 has 2.5mm jack, but also A2DP bluetooth, forget wires!
it supsodely only has GPRS and EDGE for data transfer packets. No UMTS or HDSPA means no 3G.
Still I got an E71 and if the E63 is anything like it, it's a sure shot!
It has UMTS.
Nicely done nokia. Looks like I may have to check out that store here in chicago afterall. One question though, does symbian s60 play nice with microsoft outlook (not enterprise!) for things like calendar, contacts, and well email is easy enough to push so no problem there. The only problem is that after I set my eyes on that archos smartphone announced yesterday you have some hefty competition vs that N97. I will just have to wait and see their end product I guess.
Candy Red and Frosty blue on a business phone? What in the world were you thinking there Nokia?
Sorry Nokia, no HSDPA means this phone is not even an option for me. If you would have put a 3.5mm socket on the E71 I would have bought one last week too. Maybe next time, eh?
Whats service provider(s) is this phone available on?
GSM, so in the US it's Tmobile and At&t. if it uses a sim card.
What sort of 3G are we talking about here? certainly not T-mobile's... ugh.
This phone's going to be like $400 if it ever comes to Canada
I have an E71 it kicks ass its much faster than my nokia N95, i love my E71, still awaiting a firmware update for better camera shots (they have a blueish tint to them) and the phone does tend to get hot at the back with everything on, bluetooth, 3g etc. but batter life is excellent! better than my N95
You can't really compare a two year old phone (N95) with the E71. Besides, the type of stuff you're interested in (banging out emails, documents) might not even be remotely interesting to an N95 user. The N95 was a techno marvel when it first came out. The E71 is an also ran in the world of the Curves, Bolds and dozens of other smartphones with a QWERTY or mini-QWERTY.
Is Nokia still building antiquated smartphones? What's worse, is anyone still buying keyboard phones from anyone except RIM? No wonder Nokia is losing smartphone market share.
