Nokia's 5630 XpressMusic is 12-mm slim, HSUPA fast, and S60 powerful
Like Symbian candybars? Then try this surprising little number, the 5630 XpressMusic. Nokia's 5800-sib is an N-Gage ready, 12-mm slimster with a 4GB microSD card dropped in the box along side a standard 3.5-mm headphone jack to rock whatever buds, plugs, or cans you have an itch for. It's also packing a 3.2 megapixel, "4x zoom" camera with dual-LED flash and HSDPA/HSUPA data to move your pics and videos up to your favorite photo sharing site on a rocket. Dedicated audio keys and Nokia's "say and play" feature makes the 5630 a media all-rounder. Expected in Q2 for around €200 pre-tax, pre-subsidy.

Before anybody is disappointed - don't hope for optical zoom in a phone that doesn't even have autofocus ;)
Who cares about that? The question is, does this phone have a glass front? If not, then forget it.
Seems to have autofocus; same camera specs as 5610. No?
600mhz CPU
This thing is fast.
Damn
The stuff on the screen looks tiny, is it possible that Nokia's S60 3rd phones finally moved on from their 240x320 resolution? They already did it with the 6260 slide, but that was not S60.
So, the 5800 has a touch screen, but only HSDPA (no HSUPA). This 5630 has HSUPA but no touch screen.
Which would you go for?
Nokia makes horrible phones but in the Philippines, they're widely used.
This is such an absurd and ridiculous statement that I feel obligated to respond. Nokia makes horrible _phones_? Excuse me, are you on drugs or something? The phones are solid, well built and highly equipped. What the hell is so horrible about them? I can understand if someone says that Nokia makes ugly or old fashioned (actually they're not) phones but to call them horrible. Come on...
You're from the Philippines right? I'd expect someone from that part of the world to appreciate the type of phones that Nokia makes. No, I'm not saying anything about the living conditions or the standards of living. I'm just saying that like you said they're widely used and for a reason.
Heck even the N97 only has HSDPA..
The phone looks good, what version of S60 is the 5630 running? it sure as hell doesn't look like the same os Found on other non touchscreen devices =o
This is different & more closely akin to the 5800, which has the traditional views as well as a contacts view, which I find useless- but I'm less into social networking than quickly starting applications.
It's not a Jesus phone but it looks very solid. Even more so if the screen isn't QVGA.
It's also not an iPhone or a Pre, so who cares, it might as well operate on string.
first 600mhz cpu in nokia device!
maybe thats the cpu that will use n97
Where are you getting these specs from? I haven't seen anywhere with these numbers.. That said 600mhz sounds really good
Where does it actually say that it has a 600MHz cpu?
Not that that's a bad thing at all. Remember that the iPhone's processor is only 624Mhz.
Where does it say it's 600MHz? I would presume it be underclocked to save battery life like the iPhone

There you go...
...And the Nokia N97 page doesnt say a word about CPU yet, so there's hope it'll be 600MHz too.
I have the Nokia 5310 (the S40 little brother of this device) and LOVE it! The size is perfect. The 3.5mm headphone jack is a God send. And one of my biggest beefs with the 5310 was the lack of physical distinction between the right soft key and the power button (hard to tell the difference without looking) which it looks like they fixed. Through in S60 and I think this is my next phone.
And is it just me or does it look like it has a forward facing camera by the ear piece?
Yup, checked it from Nokia's site and it does have that. Also, it has WLAN.
"And is it just me or does it look like it has a forward facing camera by the ear piece?"
This is one thing that upsets me about Nokia. They are the king of unneeded tech. I love the idea of video conferencing on S60 phones, but really, which network supports it? Nearly none. So, Nokia throw away money putting the capability in all their S60 devices, year after year, and no one uses it.
Nokia, rather spend that money on better quality touch screens, or getting "comes with music" on every phone.
@Canis_Minor
It's called video calling and all 3g networks (at least in Europe) support it. I use it quite frequently cause where I am it doesn't cost more than the regular voice call.
@Canis_Major
Actually we do use it because we don't get brutally f**ked up the ass by our carriers on charges like you guys do.
@SymbiX and Mark Anderson
Okay, my bad. Wasn't aware that it was widely available in Europe and elsewhere. I've googled for screenshots or videos of video calling in use on Nokia phones, and can find precious few of those.
You're right about us getting it up the rear, especially on GSM. AT&T put zero effort into promoting 3G, until the iPhone switched to 3G, and the same with built in GPS. I have no doubt that the only way we will get AT&T to support video calling in the US will be when Apple decides to offer it on their phone. Sad.
T-Mo US, with their brand spanking new network, should enter into a deal with Nokia to have some of the latest E and N series devices produced with AWS, and then launch all the great GSM add-on services you folks get.
Pixellated keypad? Count me in!
GSM arena seem to have the CPU listed as 600MHZ as well...

I have yet to see official confirmation of this though
Just check out Nokia's official site (Forum Nokia device list for example). It does indeed have 600mhz ARM11.
If I was looking at getting a candybar again, I'd seriously consider going with that thing. It's really f'n nice considering its simplistic design -- and it has the power to run apps efficiently.
Symbian + 600 MHz = :)
Great, it also has OpenGL ES 1.1 Plugin!
Good golly that is a horrible-looking interface...
I am dreaming when I say this but....... if this phone was same size, but all touch screen and a slide out keyboard AND kept its thickness I would be dumping my iPhone in a micro-second and getting this.
But..... I need a screen where I can surf the net and watch video without having to upgrade my eyesight to do it.
Come on Nokia - I want to switch...please help me do so!!!!
How on earth can you have a 12mm phone and also have a slide out keyboard?
Exactly what I though, in a phone this thin Keyboard is impossible(well, its pretty unlikely)
@papari: Really, you're not obligated to respond. And NO, I am not on drugs or anything of the like and I'll have you know I AM COMPLETELY AGAINST DRUGS. And it's not like I actually emphasized the word "horrible". It's clear to me that we have very different tastes in phones and you don't have to be so defensive about it. It's JUST a statement. You don't have to be so disturbed about it. It's not like I was saying all of those stuff to you. Come on man, would you relax? That's only MY opinion so why should it matter to you?
And this phone is significant from any other handset that plays music? How? It's a candybar phone with physical keys and buttons. Nokia is using leftover technology from the '90s. Well, it's popular and selling handsets is what it's all about.
Does anybody who knows anything about great music players use something other than an iPod in it's various flavors? I doubt it.
I can't believe nokia finally dispensed with the chrome trim on the navkey. Progress, I guess.
Then again it's tackyness is replaced with gloss, the dubiousness of pixelated numbers and 80s go-faster stripe! :D
5800 looks ugly compared to this, I'm buying it If I can find it.
