Can you guess what Alcatel's trying to do with this one? Yeah, Lego's products are some of the most recognizable in the world -- and while we can't tell if there's any official Lego brand tie-in here, we certainly wouldn't be surprised if there was in light of Lego's recent
foray into the bleeding-edge frontier of consumer electronics. What we're looking at seems to be a render of a device
Alcatel hopes to introduce in 2009, borrowing heavily from Denmark's favorite export to provide snap-on faceplates sure to bring a smile to any 6-year-old's face. We don't have any information beyond the screen cap, but there's no compelling reason to believe it's not real -- other than the fact that Legos don't make for the best phone ergonomics, we suppose. Theme devices like this tend to be more Modelabs' territory, but that's not to say Alcatel isn't perfectly capable of pulling this off, either. Next up: a Duplo-based DynaTAC, perhaps?
why?
why not?
(besides the expected attacks on an owner's taste, maturity, and libido)
WTF?
everyone will have the round circles on their faces when they are done talking!
I hope they are not doing this with my bailout money.
I like it :)
stupid.
i am at a total loss.
ok, maybe not. can i have an erector set styled smartphone?
"fugly" is actually a polite compliment for this thing.
Brilliant!
is this a phone for 6 year olds?
If you were giving this away as a recession anecdote, I wouldn't leave a comment.
How about if it was a depression tall tale?
can i build a iphone out of this
AWESOME!!
If I wasn't such a tech goober and just used a cell phone to make calls I would TOTALLY have that. Freakin cool!
Interesting. Modular-like construction- change faceplate colors easily, have a smooth button design available. Easy to change for a different alphabet. Don't know about backlighting the keys, but something probably could be done.
And I thought that the Lego patent expired last year (or was it longer ago?), though would this come more under copyright (?) for look and design cues?
the world is ending.
.... But will it STACK
lol
dude play-doh phones!
that would be sick! play-doh is widely known...
"today i feel like talking into a large penis"
BAM! got the cock phone now
Just for the record, it is actually TCL Holdings, not Alcatel, that is doing this. Alcatel sold its brand to TCL years back.
It's not that bad of an idea. Have you ever tried to get Lego bricks apart? Man, I hope they give you a brick removal tool.
I would use that phone. I wouldn't pay much for it, but I like it.
i smell a lawsuit a brewin'....better watch out for Lego
I get it....not really.
Looks like fun. Sell it and I may actually considering owning a mobile again.
Well a cell phone now, its not only for making a call anymore. its a lifestyle already
