Samsung's Android phones delayed, won't show up at MWC
Looks like Samsung will be one of the few companies not to show off an Android device at next week's Mobile World Congress. Head of marketing for mobile device division Younghee Lee told The Guardian that none of their Google-powered handsets would be making it out to the show. As for that June launch on Sprint and T-Mobile we heard about back in December, the new plan is to launch in the second half of this year. Hey, at least we've got the i8910 to look forward to.

I still think that Android has the ugliest GUI of any cell phone. I'm so happy they have a huge clock on the "desktop" because that's so much easier to use than the clock in the top right corner....
I love saying it for the apple-haters...
all these crappy iPhone wannabe's have FAIL written all over them while iPhone/3G maintains a healthy status, and lead beyond them.
It must be driving these other companies CRAZY trying to figure out how to beat apple. The competition releases failure after failure after failure after Storm after Envy after G1 after failure after failure.
LOW RANK THAT !!!!
Good thing you can delete it in about 30 seconds, at least that's what I did..
flashpoint
your sir are a total and incompetent DIPSHIT!
the iphone is not the best selling phone because it the best
it because it has the best marketing
ie like the razr
that phone was UTTER shit but it was the best selling phone for quite some time
because there were so much marketing for it
so stfu
I'm on my g1 now, I don't have a big ugly clock, or any icons for that matter, on my screen. I love androids design and UI. It offers a clean looking "desktop".
Also I cut and pasted this post with android because I almost replied elsewhere and because in android I cand do that anywhere!
I agree. Android is very ugly and the Pre is going to kill it. Then the 3rd iPhone is going to kill the Pre. Oh, the cycle will never end.
For Mac fans you guys are surprisingly oblivious to the idea of aesthetics.
Anyways it's uh... kiwis and oranges. Apple is all about looking nice and being the tight ship, Android is about being open. I'm sure once people have had the time to really work on it and craft it to their phones it'll be more impressive.
Yeah the iPhone does have a really good marketing team but that's only one of the reason why it's doing well. You can ignore the facts but the iPhone is ACTUALLY A DAMNED GOOD PHONE.
If you disagree, boo hoo, go cry about it and wait for the next "iPhone killer."
For the record, I have an iPhone + Blacberry + Sony Ericsson so I'm allow to say the iPhone is good without sounding biased.
tl;dr: If you don't think the iPhone is a good phone YOU'RE IGNORANT.
Yummy pizza in my avvy.
Unlike the iPhone, Android can actually, how do I put this, CUSTOMIZE the UI. If I dont want a clock on the home page, then i'll delete it. simple enough
Y'all like to say marketing is secret to iPhone success . If CEOs knew this y wouldn't they do it. By the way storm ran more ads than iPhone ads between 111008-113108 per Nielsen ratings. N failed, to kill iPhone .
Wow, Giga good job you ignorant tool. Just because you are you and you think the iPhone is a good 'DAMNED' phone, doesnt mean the iPhone really is a good phone. It might suit your case but it might not be enough for others. So stop bashing anyone who doesnt think the same you do because that sounds ignorant to me.
HIS NAME IS MR MAC. oh surprising.
I agree, but the important thing of Android is NOT the default interface, but all the great engineering of the core system.
All Android needs is a small team of UI designers (say, the Team that did KDE 4.0 -- what a beauty) to focus on the default interface and it'll be great!
HTC is gonna be the star anyway
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :r
Anybody think android could be ported to Instinct?
Instinct's perfect but the OS...
I agree. The OS is kinda weird, there are animations for some programs and not for others, the threaded messages abbreviate themselves and need to be clicked to read (and then delete themselves everyweek)...all this weird stuff.
Opera Mini and the AIM program have kept me happy, though.
The hardware is great, it's nice and thin, good reception, etc. Android on it could only be a step up, but also an impossibility. Can't see it happening.
f-word
nice.
Their delayed cause theres a bug. The clock on the desktop shows the same time at the clock in the corner.
(what's he talking about?!)
Given Samsung's habit of claiming firsts, are they selling this as the first phone to pull out of MWC
Too bad, Android is the next big thing.
I really wish Engadget would pay more attention to their HORRIBLE photoshopping jobs.
It says Sprint on the phone model, but has a 'My Favs' icon on the GUI.
I understand it's all supposed to be late-breaking and you guys have to get the news out quick, but stop being so sloppy.
And... as for the phone, Samsung+Android is good. But I won't piss my pants til LG gets in the mix.
These aren't photos sent to endgadget, they make the photos themselves.
@syko21... That's what he said.
That's great because it'll give Palm just that much more headroom to trounce all others at the MWC with the Pre, while Samsung is showing off their wanna be miniaturized smart-phone wanna-be, and yet another qwerty slider dumbphone.
It makes me wonder if these big electronics manufacturers take their cell phone divisions seriously?
If a phone announced and demoed a month ago will be the star of the WMC, then that's one lousy WMC we have this year.
Samsung's Android was supposed to be the high-end gPhone. Now that we won't have that, I guess TEGRA will be the star of WMC. For a freakin' good reason too.
Engadget,
How many android phones do u anticipate to be shown at the MWC?
android is 2 years too late, overhyped.I can say this much. The day a phone comes out that clearly beats/kills the iphone, I'm switching away from the iphone 3g. I have no loyalty to apple or att,no loyalty to any brand or carrier. My loyalty is to best touchscreen phone, period
word!! I roll my eyes every time a g1 owner starts hyping the "possibilities" of android. While we sit here and wait. I am like u too, my loyalty us to the best phone, not the brand.
I've owned 21 cell phones ,.in order to have a true winner cell . U need to have a super combination of hardware/software. So far iPhone is greatest cell phone of all times ,as off 2-11-09.
why? cuz Android just sucks and it is for aliens....from back in the days. Did I hear you say something about stealing some steam out of Symbian, webOS, WinMo? go to the end of the line brother.... :-)
