I agree about the "how does their situation compare to a 5 mile radius" and also "does it not meet American standards or Chinese standards". Those are both good questions.
As was said before, even though there are regional differences, standards should be standards that are globally accepted and followed. Imagine yourself being born in China, not having an way to support yourself (without having a family) and carelessly signing up for work that is beneath any level of decency. The workers in the factories are HUMANS with feelings, needs and emotions.
One should never justify something that happens to oneself with what terrible things others do.....
