Xbox 360 arcade cabinet - the games you love at a price you can't afford

When you kids are ready to get serious about your gaming, let us know. We just spoke with our man Justin at Solomods, and he has a custom-built Xbox 360 arcade machine that he's willing to part with for a mere $2,250. This original Midway arcade cabinet was once home to The Simpsons game, and aside from the addition of the Microsoft game console it's been repainted and fitted with a new monitor and front-loading disk tray, two joysticks, a 60GB hard drive, WiFi, and display and volume control. Additionally, your favorite wireless controller is supported, and if you order now he'll throw in an illustrated owners manual. How awesome is that? Available for pick-up somewhere in the badlands south of Cleveland, Ohio -- hit the read link to get in on some of that action. More pics after the break.

i wonder what an RROD looks like on that.
EPIC.
Ps3 troll much? The RRoD problem is gone, and MS takes care of you if you had the problem, like i did twice... I thought it was great they did everything free of charge.
Of course they rank him down, can't crack a joke about MS without getting downranked.
"MS takes care of you if you had the problem, like i did twice..."
I love my 360 but I laugh at statements like this. The logic here is that the problem has been so well addressed that you only needed to send it in twice. So you had a couple weeks without a console that should have been replaced outright and recalled and that's okay? RROD is/was a major issue and is worthy of ridicule. Sorry.
it's funny how butthurt people get at a snarky comment. maybe the truth hurts? or maybe you kids take your game console a little too seriously.
@enduro: Your logic is flawed. I am entitled to have my own opinion. My enjoyment is greater than my disappointment therefore I am a satisfied customer. Besides that, I game about an hour a week, sometimes none... So I was indifferent to being without a console for a week each time. Maybe I'm an optimist, maybe your just sad... who knows why you want to rain on my parade.
@Oakie: hehe, snarky.
For that price, couldn't they have at least used an LCD screen?
I'm sure you were very satisfied packaging your console up for repairs twice and sitting at home waiting for it twice. I know I was never happier with MS than when I was without my machine for a week while they graciously fixed their flawed machine.
Ha. The RRoD is definitely not gone.
@enduro
There's nothing wrong with your logic. He's just got a low bar when it comes to buying electronics. :D He's entitled to his opinion, and I'm entitled to laugh at it.
Enduro,
I think he means they took care of this problem on new consoles, or the fact that they took care of him both times his console crapped out. Of course, if this happened to you early on, MS might not have fixed the problem correctly the first time, so experiencing a RROD more than once could have happened to you.
Anyway, happened to me after about 2.5 into having a 360. Got my 360 back in like three weeks and they even fixed a disc tray opening problem I had, all at absolutely no cost to me. Haven't had the problem since and actually bought myself another 360 when the price dropped so my 12 year old can play his own games in the other room.
LOl @ M4L
you realize you and your twelve year old could be playing on one solid EPIC super hyper PLAYSTATION 3 right now. Instead you paid for two C grade consoles. Imagine being able to play MGS4 right now wait don't you could fall into depression.
Yeah, but does it come with LIVE?
So over $2000 and we don't even get an HD display....
No thanks
some people like the novelty of a classic arcade CRT screen....
CRT screens give me headaches if its game content that has too much detail (ie: meant to be played in HD)
I just noticed that myself........ Sad if you ask me.....
isnt the old xbox better since it's an old school CRT
Boy, I can't way to play an RPG on this thing....
(jk)
if the coin op works, maybe you could recoup investment from xbox-less friends
This is the ugliest piece of sh*t ive ever seen!
I'd be more down for this with a dreamcast.

Close?
I built a Dreamcast arcade machines, quite easy and cheap:

Since then it has had a much nicer paint job and a keyboard and mouse tray fitted.
yeahhhh i'm not getting rid of 2k for something non hd or even an lcd. you succeed at failing sir.
ya, no hd? fail.
Yes finally I can stand up right for hours on end like at old Street Fighter machines in my youth and view all these new games on a crap NTSC/Pal tv screen
MEH!
or a 720P projector with 100" screen and a decent sound system.
1. Score a $400 arcade cabinet.
2. Score a $300 console system.
3. Put it all together, add some vinyl decals and a neon sign.
4. Sell it for $2250
5. PROFIT!
You forgot the ??? step.
If he redesigned it with an HD tv he will be set. This is pretty cool though.
That's what I was thinking!
Cleveland Rocks!
why on earth would you possibly purchase that?!? With $2,250, you’re able to get a way more efficient, descent, higher resolution television, and which ever model Xbox as well as a large number of games to go along with it... its people like this who build worthless inventions that slow down our societies development, as fucking awesome that is tht he build it, i feel sorry for anyone who buys that..
May be the cost is because is a prototype where the first group of units came with a hefty price.
You've totally missed the point.
someone will buy it....
Did he really *need* to have wifi on it? Not even the average 360 owner keeps moving their console around.
I personally know Justin from Solomods - he builds a quality product. I've played on this machine, and its awesome. It gives you a real "nostalgic " feel and its quite impressive. The built-in WiFi is great too, no ethernet cables running all over, and it allows you to place the cabinet anywhere in the home. Its really nice!
It looks really solid, but honestly I'd rather have the original Simpsons game that used to be in there.
Also, I'd love to see a Wii version of this. With the Virtual Console you've essentially got a really awesome Playchoice 10 machine.
While I agree that the price is ridiculous, I couldn't imagine a
arcade cabinet like that without anything but a big honkin' CRT.
And putting a 360 into that isn't a bad idea with Live Arcade.
Though personally, rather than branding it with the 360 Logo, I would
have made a custom Castle Crashers arcade cabinet with some kickass
artwork on the side and a custom title card up top.
Man that sounds awesome.
These things are all over Mexico (the 360 version, not the original XBOX), and were around US$1100 from the guy I knew when I was there a few months ago. With the extra cost of luggage nowadays, i couldn't afford to check one of these puppies with Continental.
Wait, he made it out of a Simpsons Arcade cabinet?? What a way to destroy a great arcade machine.
I only wish I could pay more than $2250 to game in standard def on a 22 inch screen!!!
Meh...I'd rather buy a vintage Street Fighter 2 machine, if anything.
TIGER UPPERCUT!!
I wonder if it sounds like a jet engine as well.
Also, the worst venue ever. Fighting games, fo'sho, but I can't imagine STANDING for the duration of a FPS/3PS/RTS/brawler/every other genre out there.
2250??!!!
Actually, its very quiet. We've played fighting & racing games on it, I think thats what its "geared" towards. Its more of a multi-player thing.
finally, a big enough box to make the xbox 360 quiet.
Hey guys
We value all your opinions good and bad. Keep in mind this was built for fun not practacality. I sit on the couch and play my 360 on my 60'' HD flat screen as well. But when I have some friends over we are all over this arcade machine. In 4 years the girlfriend didn't play my 360 This gets built and she play MK3 with all us for 2 hours on the first day. It's not about the money that's not why it was built the price is just the asking price. This was made to give the feeling that you were at the arcade not sitting on your couch. If you want the sitting on you couch experience then just keep on doing what your doing there's nothing wrong with that.
This is not for most people this is for the old school hardcore gamers.
@Testies, Testies, 1, 2... 3?
Or if they wanted to keep in tune with a retro theme, they could have at least used a 16:10 FD Trinitron Tube running 1920*1080 with HD-FURY.
spend more time on its design please.
That’s awesome! He did a really nice job on the look. Kinda funny to see all the conversions people are doing to old Arcade Cabs.
The price I can't afford? What a sad news!!!These things are all over Mexico (the 360 version, not the original XBOX), and were around US$1100 from the guy I knew when I was there a few months ago. But you also could try in PC and you could convert it using tools from http://www.copy-dvd.org, though not free but have free trial.
