SmartQ 5 touchscreen PMP / MID promises WiFi, Bluetooth

It looks like it may still be quite a while before it actually ends up on store shelves, but this new SmartQ 5 PMP / MID seems like it should be able to at least muster up a bit of interest when and if it is ever released. While complete specs are a little light, and most likely not finalized, the device will apparently boast a 4.3-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, and four hardware buttons to give the touchscreen a rest once in a while. Not much more than that, unfortunately, although SmartQ does seem to be pitching this one squarely as an internet device first and media player second, so hopefully that means it'll pack enough capabilities to truly earn that MID moniker.

Come on people stop making devices with resistive touch, we want captive touch damn it.
I could care less about the resistive screen...so long as the software is much stable and there's persistence. Besides, that it does what it says it does quite well. Sure, no somewhere is perfect...but do things right from the first time.
looks kinda like what i imagine a larger iPod touch (iPod tablet maybe) would look like. really, all i want is something as thin as the Kindle, about the dimensions of a paperback novel, with the combined functionality of the Kindle and the iPod touch for about $299. is that so much to ask?
4.3-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen? That's exactly how big the Archos Android should have been allowed to be... 5" is really too big.
About that one, looks very nice... beautiful... but resistive screen??? Not a wise choice.
I really wish that someone would make something like this with a 7" 1024 by 660, capacitance touch, OLED screen, WiFi, Bluetooth, nice and thin, say under 12mm, and a decent battery.
It would be the perfect portable device for Internet browsing, watching a movie, reading a book, checking e-mail, and potentially games. I keep hoping Apple will make one, but honestly, if some company makes a good one I'll buy it.
That would be awesome. I actually like the stylus input for anything larger than than 5". A keyboard at that size would suck on the screen (I prefer the hand writing recognition). And definitely windows 7.
If it was OLED the resolution can go a lot higher due to the ability for color stacking.
Personally I'd say no to Windows. I'd rather have Linux. Android would be pretty cool.
Frankly a 7" iPod Touch would be my preference.
More portable devices that will never take off!
I want xp and 1280x720...
SmartQ is a pretty cool little company in Beijing; along with Meizu, they're about the only Chinese DAP/PMP maker that "gets it"...as in firmware that looks good, actually works, and is meaningfully updated with regularity. They're also rather unique as, up to now, their players have never had memory built in; the firmware and all your media are loaded onto SD cards and you just swap them out at your choosing.
The stylus/pen here does make sense in one regard: SmartQ has indicated "Chinese character input method" as one feature of this little device and if that means handwriting recognition, it's obviously a whole lot easier to write Chinese characters with a stylus than with your finger.
If SmartQ holds to form, this device will use an ADI Blackfin processor and probably a Wolfson codec to handle the audio.
