Water-powered Jetlev makes jetpacks fun for non-daredevils

We first caught sight of this bit of technology in patent form way back in 2007 but, in a bit of a twist, it's now actually come to fruition, and could well soon be hurling you across a lake near you. As you can imagine, the jetpack works as described in the patent, with it employing a flexible hose / tether that gets paired with a separate vessel that houses the propulsion engine and other related systems. That apparently greatly improves the thrust to weight ratio compared to a standalone jetpack, and makes the system a good deal safer as a bonus. While it's still undergoing tests, the company says it'll be accepting orders for the first model, a 155 HP version, in April of this year, and it says that the first venues offering "flights" could be up and running as soon as this summer. Until then, you'll just have to make do with the video after the break.

How about: Don't use water!! Having to stay on water and in range of the boat makes it limited use. Unless they can have it tether fire hydrant to fire hydrant down a street ;-)

99,000 €! not even if I had that kind of money. It looks fun, but that's a lot for a motor, water pump, and fire hose.
yeah I'd rather spend £20 on a bottle of water and then some time later, do a wee on a prostitute, or give her the water and.....yea
I would say "I'd use the rest to buy " but I don't have that much to begin with, so I'll just spend the £20 and be happy.
If they could make this retrofit to existing jet-skis or jet boats they'd have a winner. There are plenty of 155HP jet skis with a good intake and impeller.

That looks fun, but not $150,000s worth of fun. I'm totally going to build my own because that is probably the only way I could ever afford it.
And does it have a fuel gauge where you can see? Otherwise falling from the sky at 30mph would not be pleasant.
I believe that the power comes from the host of where the tube is, which would probably be gasoline. the backpack seems to only act as a nossel and project the water. The force comes from the tube pushing to make the least resistance for the water(like a hose) and the water being dispursed.
