Acer unveils Tempo smartphone series, forgets Windows Mobile 6.5
Not long after we spotted four new Acer phones in Barcelona has the company officially unveiled the Tempo X960, F900, M900, and DX900 smartphones, albeit with a few typo-laden spec sheets. Interestingly, all of them are running Windows Mobile 6.1, even though Stevey Ballms pulled the wraps off WinMo 6.5 earlier today -- and making matters worse, we're not seeing that required hardware Start button on the DX900 or X960, which means an upgrade probably isn't in the cards. Curious move, we'd say -- and we're also in the dark on what happened to that goofy dual-sided set we saw leaked earlier. We'll be on the lookout for answers, check all the detailed specs after the break.

gives me a chubby.
Specs are seriously impressive. It will be interesting to see if they have the right formula for success. Remember smartphone rule number 1. Must be priced lower or equal to iphone here in USA in order to sell n be successful $199. I dont see acer ready to enter smartphone industry, first of all will have zero subsidies. Im sure youll find these handsets on amazon in about 2-3 months after release due to no sales......
Cool
seems like HTC is building these too.
why did you respond to "cool" with something like that?
it makes me wonder if people abuse the reply system just to be higher up.
So now Everyone is Building Smart Phones? where are the normal phones? is there only Nokia left... no wait... no one left!
Because it's like the computer world when it comes to WINMO. You can build any phone, slap WINMO on it and bingo bango - you got extra profit for cheap. Why do you think all these phones are running WINMO? Lol.
The amount of mobile phones coming out is absurd. They all look the same. There is nothing to differentiate one from the other. They are all black too. Crap crap crap.
Coudn't Agree more with you
was this intentional?
with a few typo-laden spec sheets. Here's what we know. the X960 has a 2.8-inch VGA TFT LCD touch screen, GPS, virtual keyboard, MP3 *plaer*, and 3.2 megapixel camera.
Of course man! Where ya beeen!?!??! Acer developed a new technology that allows for you to actually PLA mp3s! (Plays Like... Awesomely) Cmon dude get with the times, PLAYing mp3s is so old school.
the rescission is forcing company's to drop the "y" =\
M900 is gnarl. Can't wait to check it out irl. Hopefully they get some decent carriers.
Please oh PLEASE give us Americans a chance Acer!!!
they all look good especially m900's keyboard...but stylus...fail :(
stylus? how about the lack of WLAN?!
Hey Flexium, you have a complaint about the stylus on the M900... well I must admit you are easy to please :) I really couldn't care less about the stylus... and consider that those in the Asian market users will need a stylus to write faster, (typing via on-screen keyboards is faster only in western world), and Asian market is quite large!
My grief is with the fact that the M900 comes with no Wi-Fi! That's the real idiotic thing not the stylus! I guess someone at Acer was on crack when making the decision of removing the 801.11g capabilities that all other phones have!
Is that M900 a rebadged Touch Pro 2?
nice but weird photos though. Do i really need to see a detail shot of "GPS"
I'd rather see more of that keyboard
2.5 mm jack?
phail
again no android :(
That wouldn't be as bad of news if these phones had the mandatory windows 6.5 button which would hint that while these are being released with WinMo 6.1, they could still be upgraded when 6.5 enters the fray in the manner of HTC's Diamond and Pro sequels.
MUCH better, but still a little disappointing.
With such a blizzard of new handsets this week you would think one manufacturer would finally get it right:
Great Browser
Great Battery Life
Great Phone
Great Styling
Great GPS
Great Screen
All the Radios
Etc., Etc., Etc....
Haven't seen a new device yet that has it all.. I know, I know, the iPhone guys think they have it, the Pre guys think they are going to have it but they don't, yet. Even though all the technology exists, the OEMs and Carriers keep providing less than what should be. It is getting old and insulting!
Economics 101: Corporates strive to maximize profit. They make much more by making different models with different features for different target groups.
It also makes sense. Why pay extra for something you don't need? You might believe that feature X should come standard, but that doesn't mean other people find it neccessary.
You have a complaint about the stylus... well you are easy to please :) The M900 comes with no Wi-Fi! I guess someone at Acer was on crack when tehy made that decision!
The F900 seems to have a dedicated windows key - refere to pic 8 or 9 in the set.
The M900 and F900 look pretty sweet to me. Hurry up... I'm in the market for a smartphone right now... must work on ATT 3G network.
