Apple's 17-inch unibody MacBook Pro gets unboxed
We had heard that quite a few early birds were receiving shipping notifications, and sure enough, Apple's 17-inch unibody MacBook Pro has left the docks. One proud owner has even taken the time to host up a handful of unboxing shots as proof, and while nothing here is out of the ordinary for those acquainted with Apple's newest 15-incher, the actual machine just looks a touch longer and wider for some reason. Maybe it's just our eyes.

I do appreciate Apple. I just believe that they are over priced. I actually have both. I have problems with mickeysoft as well. Vista sucks but I have had very good experiences with Windows 7.
oops. With all due respect to rms and the fsf, I'd like to amend my post and revise linux to: gnu+linux.
Yes, I agree D, you can get the same set of hardware specs in a pc for less than Apple charges you. I see it as buying a basic car vs. a luxury car. Both have the ability to get you from point A to point B. But if you want the pretty one, with the beautiful curves, handmade dash, the supple leather, that responds beautifully and drives like a dream, then you're going to pay a lot more. You overpaid to get from Point A to Point B, but you've paid more in order to get the wonderful, fun experience of driving such a well made beautiful car. A lot of people think it's ludicrous to buy the sports car, when a cheaper car does the basic job equally as well. But then again, a lot of folks just love cars . . .
So, it sounds like you're similar to me. You have your "driver" - the reasonably priced vehicle that goes from Point A to B, that works with everything, but you also have in the garage the beautifully built, fun-to-drive sports car as well, because you love to drive and you're willing to pay more to have that kind of machine.
It's a good mix. Works for me.
PS - haven't tried it, but I do hear W7 is pretty nice.
more* I can't type today!
Do you watch your fingers or your screen?

Very impressive. With copy and paste I can type thousands of words a minute.
If you copy and paste, thats duplicating thousands of words per minute...
iPhone's can't copy and paste (for now) but Macs can.
I hope they update these with the same Quad Cores they are supposed to update the iMacs with.
I use a Sony and have no problem acknowledging the style and engineering mastery of the macbook pro. Based on weight and dimensions and quality ... it's unmatched. I'm not wild about the OS, think it should have come with a few more ports ... but hey ... it's one seriously beautiful machine. You can get a Jeep Compass or an Acura RDX- they both have their place in the world. So do the pc/apple laptops.
Couldn't have said it better myself, CrescentD.
I say we start a new "troll" movement: The OmniFanBoy movement - people who understand the values of both OS's, lurk in the blogs and comment areas, ready to swoop into any PC/Mac FanBoyTroll war and pour cold water on the hate and vitriol with balanced, well reasoned analyses that give both systems their credit where credit is due . . . .
Eh, never mind. Too much fun to watch the poorly reasoned attacks and ad hominems / insults that fly around when the zealots go to battle in the trenches of the Comments sections. Why ruin such a rich source of entertainment?

A field report on whether the 17" exhibits the same loose hinge as the 15" would be appreciated. The issue with the 15" boxes was that tilting the lid beyond approximately 45 deg. would cause the lid to fall almost closed. This problem didn't/doesn't exist on the 13" MBPs and the "old" 15" MBPs ... you could hold the keyboard vertical and the display at 90 deg and it wouldn't collapse. The 15" "issue" was an intended design, as I understand it today, but apple was considering a tighter spring due to feedback.
I was thinking of getting a 15-inch or this. Mainly because the battery life is so much more than the 15.
I usually love Apple's design but this looks... cheap. Bet it's a lot better looking in person though.
